      Thank you Elliot. I think I have the Carplay/Bluetooth all sorted out. Every time I encounter an issue, it circles back around to something I point out in the video I am not doing. I was out on a 12 hour 400 miler with a buddy of mine last weekend and the Car Play had issues connecting. I thought about it and sure enough, I had my iPhone/Bluetooth option turned ON.Tuned it off and it connected right up. Seems Honda is making incremental enhancements in each software release and its paying off. I find the Car Play and GPS very enjoyable to use.

      Well, after reviewing several CZcams videos about problems with CarPlay, I stumbled on yours. I turned off blue tooth on the iPhone and everything connected without issues, and reconnected after a gas station stop. So many people are having issues with their '18+ Gold Wings and CarPlay. This video needs to be on Honda's website! Thanks Rick!

    Many Thanks for your valuable instructions 👍👍👍 I have been struggling for quit a while to get this to work properly and contacted both the Honda dealer and the dealer that sold me the helmet and Sena headset, but none were able to fix it. The connection as hub made the difference, and allowed not only CarPlay to work, but fixed the problem with Siri and calling via the phone app in CarPlay. THANKS 🙏

    Boy am I frustrated! I just bought a 2018 Honda Goldwing. I have the Senna Outrush helmet comm system and I have not been able to load car play on the bike. I have seen CarPlay work. The salesmen that sold me the bike had it working. They told me the reason was the wire I had. I got a new wire that actually charges the phone but I still can’t get it on.
    I noticed that my iPhone X was connected to the bike. My helmet was also connected. However, the bike kept telling me that the reason car play wouldn’t set up was that the helmet wasn’t connected.

    Is there anyway you can set up Apple CarPlay and have it play through your speakers instead of your helmet? I’m deaf in one ear and hearing music through speakers in a helmet cuts stereo out and makes it mono. I really need to have it to play through my main speakers.

      I spent several hours trying to figure out why sound only came from my speakers and not the headset. Then I Googled it, there is a button on your console. Push it and it switches between the headset and the speakers on the bike. Try that and see if it helps.

    I've watched your video several times and has really helped. So I have the unchecked the phone pairing on the Wing and my bluetooth is off on my iphone. I think I have figured it out a dozen times then when I go for a ride with my husband, something goes wrong. I'm hoping tomorrow will be the charm. I have the Sena 50S and the last time we rode, the mike stayed open all the time. Wind noise is a huge problem. I also didn't have the Wing set right either. One question, on the phone, under bluetooth. The Goldwing would only be connected....... when? Still confused.

    • @ridenwithrick3771
      @ridenwithrick3771  Před 3 lety

      Hi Kim, ok so as far as the Bluetooth setting. If you are connected the bike via CarPlay OR Android Auto, you are tethered to the bike with a Sync cable so you should never be connected using BT. However, from time to time I forget to disable my BT on my phone and I plug into the bike as I always do and things always go "sideways". I'm not saying that's happening to you. To complicate matters, you have a 50S that has mesh technology. I am not wholly familiar with the settings on a 50 but I know when you come in vicinity of another mesh rider, you will connect. At the end of the day, if your tethered to the bike with a sync cable, the wing should never be connected to your phone under BT settings.
      With the Sena systems, its pretty common to perform a reset (soft) and every now and then a hard reset doesn't hurt. Especially after you take a firmware update.
      Wind across the mike can cause all sorts of problems but usually between rider to rider communication. In some instances, it can cease GPS commands as the Sena still thinks your speaking when its just wind across the mic.
      to remedy this, there are different methods based on your helmet (half helmet, 3/4 helmet, or full face.
      in general,
      1. Boom mic is best. The stick on mics are pretty lousy
      2. If using the boom, make sure its oriented correctly. I think the arrow points towards your mouth but don't quote me on that. Check the documentation.
      3. If using a full face, a chin curtain really helps
      4. Be sure the mic (if using a boom) is touching your lips.
      5. If using a sticky, make sure it is nowhere near a vent.
      6. If using a boom, I wrapped mine with a thin piece of foam over the existing "sock" which really cuts wind.
      8. Be sure Audio Multitasking is turned ON.
      if you still have issues, give me some more info on your setup. Are you and your husband on different bikes, rider, passenger, helmet type, his com brand, yadda.

    • @user-tj8we2wr3b
      @user-tj8we2wr3b Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks so much for your reply. So many youtubers don’t. I have the Goldwing. Hubby on a Harley. I have a 3/4 helmet and his is more of a half. We use the boom mike. He has a huge windshield so I don’t know why wind noise is such a problem. The mike is oriented correctly. We will likely go out tomorrow for a ride and try again. I believe I have everything set correctly now. There was one ride where I think I almost had it. Lol. But music only came on at a stop. Then as soon as we took off, the music stopped and it thought wind noise was talking. I do have a question and I don’t mean to sound dumb, on my phone under the Bluetooth settings I have all the things I connect to, the Sena is there but obviously I don’t want to connect my phone to the Sena since the bike is the hub but why is Goldwing In there. Do you connect your phone to the Goldwing???the lightning cable connects the Goldwing to the phone. Is there an ability to connect the Goldwing to the phone via Bluetooth? Now I’m really confused. I know that most of my problems are operator error but it’s not like there is any literature. Other than people like you trying to help out the confused. 🤪. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks.

    • @ridenwithrick3771
      @ridenwithrick3771  Před 3 lety

      If your music kicks back on when stopped, wind is your issue for sure. Try turning on Audio multi tasking and remember, each volume heard through the Sena is stored separately. Your music volume is different than your GPS and com volume. The trick is to only control each volume with the headset and not the bike. I turn my GPS and stereo volume on the bike all the way up and then fine tune it through the headset. A 3/4 or half helmet is hard to keep wind off the mic unless you have a really large sock on it.
      The Goldwing can connect to your phone via BT. That’s why it’s showing up in the list as “not connected”. It’s just waiting for you to connect it. Your bike can connect to 3 devices using BT. PHONE, rider and passenger headset. If you want the CarPlay, you need to tether your phone and you loose the BT. Basically you can’t have both.

    • @ridenwithrick3771
      @ridenwithrick3771  Před 3 lety

      Also wanted to to add. Try and isolate the issue. I suspect wind either from your headset or your husbands is causing the problem if your communicating with him, and audio multi tasking is not turned on, on your helmet, wind from either his helmet or yours will signal to the Sena that your still in a com session. Go for a spin by yourself and see if you have an issue. Raise the windshield up/down to see if it gets worse or better. You will get it. Just takes time to isolate the problem and tweak it to fix it. Your open face type helmets could be the issue.

      @@ridenwithrick3771 Just got back. I finally got all the settings correct. Worked like a charm. But the wind is definitely the issue. Will need to figure a way to correct this. Thanks very much for the video, I’ve been having lots of issues with my 2019 set up, this video will help. I have joined MyRoute App do you know how to plan a route on your iPhone and send it to the onboard navigation unit at all? • @ridenwithrick3771
      @ridenwithrick3771  Před 3 lety

      There is no way to "send" or upload wirelessly to the Goldwing. Any route planned must be uploaded via the USB cable. If your planning a route on your phone, I suspect you would need to use AppleCarPlay or Android Auto to view/navigate the route while on your phone and that's if AppleCarPlay/Android Auto supports it.
      I abandoned the Honda Ride Planner a long time ago and opted for REVER. They have a phone app which I don't use. I plan a route on REVER, export it to a thumb drive, and upload it to the bike via the USB port.
      I exclusively use the Honda Navigation system. Coupled with REVER as the route planner, the Honda GPS works exceptionally well.

      I have been able to re-connect the Apple Car "on the fly" once or twice. That will only occur if the initial connection made was sound to begin with. In my experience though, once its connected, it never disconnects unless the phone overheats or something strange like that or in most instances, your headset disconnects from the bike. In that case, you need to stop the bike to make it right.
      And your right, most have issues simply because of the cable they are using. Needs to be Apple Certified. I use an old Apple 6 plus. If I an get it to work, anyone can.
