- Kroger and Albertsons have identified which stores could be sold in their merger agreement.
The list includes 124 stores - Albertsons, QFC, Safeway and Haggen - in Washington, 62 in Oregon and 579 nationwide that will be sold to C&S Wholesale Grocers. The news does not mean all of the stores on the list will close.
The Federal Trade Commission in February sued to block the proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons, saying the $24.6 billion deal would eliminate competition and lead to higher prices for millions of Americans.
In addition to QFC and Albertsons, Kroger owns Fred Meyer.

In Port Orchard we have an Albertsons a Safeway a Fred Meyers and Walmart. So that's one small community massively impacted by a monopoly. We do have a grocery outlet but that's not a story you can depend on regular shopping. We got rid of monopolies decades ago WTH.
Albertsons and Safeway already merged. My neighborhood Albertsons was converted to a Safeway which seems like a waste of money since they kept some Albertsons.
No flippin' Merger! The Monopolies in the US are ridiculous! Why do you think everything costs so much???
CES is a broker not a store operator so what does that tell you. Greed, greed, greed this will devastate small communities. Kroger is not a good citizen just look at how they operated during covid. This will definitely affect prices raising them through the roof. Think prices are high now: just wait!
IF THEY RAISE THEIR PRICES, NEXT STOP WINCO AND WALMART!!
Monopoly?
💯 agreed
QFC and Safeway are the two closest grocery stores on the list. This would suck.
Where is the federal government? This is a clear monopoly. They can step in when Movie Studios merge but not grocery stores?
There is a lawsuit going on. Now
if you can't sell them it's simple just close them , the stores are NOT a charity
Safeway's prices are outrageous. After the pandemic they thought the best thing for them to do was gouge us to show us their appreciation. Where I live we only have a Safeway and a Fred Meyer and it sucks!!!
I agree as prices have doubled or tripled in 3 years.
A pound of Challenge & Land O Lakes butter,= $6.99 & $7.99 … Only 16 oz… Outrageous!
Prices have rising after covid all over US. I remember having to change prices by $5-$10.00. Then every week changing prices on everything. Look at fast food, retail stores. Since President Biden came in.
I am not a fan of Kroger (QFC) because they only have stores in nicer neighborhoods. There is no QFC in places like Federal Way, Auburn, Fife, Sumner, pretty much none in south end or Pierce county.
I dont know about the other communities but when Kroger opened the Fred Meyer in Sumner, they closed the QFC a few blocks away.
I love it when I don’t see Preston Phillips delivering the “news”.
We need Aldi's to come to Washington!
Yeh but if I remember correctly, the ceo of aldis has political motives that don’t suit Washington state, especially western Washington.
They should make Kroger put basic food stores on food deserts.
Why? Thats communism
I only ever shop at trader Joe's or Costco
I got this unbelievable solution to the stores closing up! Do like I do in Indiana you go in pick your items pay for them and then leave. You follow those steps and the stores will stay there.. 😅
