  • Yes this maybe be clickbait but it's a conversation we have all the time! When will we move back to land?
    Hi, we are Rozzie & Rob with our lovely cockapoo's Ralph & Rosie. We have given up the rat race, sold our house and have bought a new narrowboat, Thistle & Rose. Our vlogs are showing our learns as we go from bricks and mortar to life on the water. Join us as we literally learn the ropes of becoming continual cruisers on England's 2500 miles of canals & rivers.
    Our vlogs are ideal if you have ever wondered what it's like to live on a narrowboat or are considering to make the leap and buy your very own narrowboat. There's always some humour, lots of mistakes and always a few drinks being poured. Subscribe to our channel, ask us a question or just watch our videos as there's something for everyone.

    Hi Rob, & Ros, love your vlogs ❤. As canal boat newbies this vlog was very relevant. We actually plan to sell our family house after 40 years of marriage to live full time on a canal boat like you. We are learning as much as possible from your programmes, visited shows and met other boaters. We are very excited about the future and can't wait to get the house on the market and buy a narrow boat. We live not far from Llangollen. Look forward to be able to meet you both in the future. Nige & Cathy narrow boat newbies.

    We are lucky enough to have a leisure Narrowboat (it’s in Overwater marina near Audlem) and our house too I did meet a couple who have a motorhome stored in France They put their Narrowboat boat in a marina in early November they get the train to the motorhome then drive it down to southern Spain for the winter months

    The main reason I see a lot of people give up the RV Camping/Narrowboating lifestyle is that they simply run out of money. I don't know much about Narrowboating but RV Camping comes with crazy expensive average maintenance cost from things you'd never think of! RV Campers have a shelf life and in reality, ALWAYS need something either fixed or replaced from the day they're built and this never ends! It's like you never seem to get caught up on all the gremlins before more pop up with water damage from structural leaking being a constant yet very serious problem, no matter who built it! Many "Nomad lifestyle" people also try CZcams to pay the bills but because of CZcams's revised pay structure and increased competition from so many channels, it really isn't the flexible yet potentially lucrative career it used to be. Awesome boat, btw! That 'reversed' layout is actually how most conventional sailboats and cabin cruisers are designed. Having the galley in the stern just makes so much more sense than having people walking through your bedroom, every time they use the bathroom or having to carry(and sometimes spilling) food, all the way to the stern when cruising. Good luck, keep up the good work and remember to keep having fun!

      @thenarrowboatgoodlife  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Narrowboating certainly is a labour of love, our boat was brand new so we hope to have a few years before things start to go wrong!
      I still work, (Rozzie) so we use any income from CZcams as pocket money, wouldn’t rely on it!
      Thanks for watching 👍🏼

    Hey guys, fab vlog again, saw the title and got worried you were going back to land, then all is good.
    We have a narrowboat, currently leisure due to commitments at home, however 3 years time we will be moving on it and absolutely can't wait. We find it so chilled and relaxed when we are on there, even with the different maintenance complexities of been a CC. I also think that I would never go back to a house when we are on boat full time as it will give us the freedom we both want.

    Hi guys, I believe the narrow boat living is so simple and so good. I know you have maintenance on the boat but you have maintenance on the house or a flat that doesn’t matter where you live. You still have to do things and remove in the boat from the water and black on the bottom Every couple years it’s not that hard really keep up the good work. Welcome to Crick!!!
    We are home leisure moored there, just a few moorings away from where you both are. We love it at Crick, weekends out at Bridge 26 are fantastic, and only do our long cruises from May to October. One of the good things about staying at Crick if you are there long enough is the Crick show, free tickets and accommodation!!! Whilst taking full advantage of the Music and Beer festival, hope to say hello when we return to the boat over Winter.

    I think if I lived on a narrowboat I'd moor up for winter in a marina too, it's like living in a house for a while before going back on the metaphorical road again. Nice way to break up the year plus make you appreciate moving around more once you're mobile.

    Late to the party, but thought you may be interested in our experience, which echoes yours.
    We began permanent life aboard in 2006, and continue to be asked "when will you stop?" Our answer remains the same, "when we no longer love living this way, or ill health prevents us".
    Sailboat life is harsh, with the same complications and challenges narrowboaters talk about (and then some).
    I've often dreamed of moving onto a narrowboat when the high seas become too challenging.
    But I could never live on land, stuck in one place. There's a deep need to roam within me that I'll never shake.
    Enjoy your winter! Liz

    Hi. Just subscribed. Finding it a really interesting channel tbh. We’re about to sell the house - it’s almost paid for. We vanlife about 70% of the time anyways and are fed up with the bills and constraints of bricks. House is going up for sale end of April - got a few bits to do. The question that’s always rolling around in my head is our vehicles. We have a small car and a van conversion motorhome. Do you have a car? What do you do with it whilst cruising? Where do you park it?
    Anyways, it’s a big step giving up a house that I’ve owned for 26 years but I’m getting excited at the prospect of totally living in a narrowboat, offgrid.

    • @thenarrowboatgoodlife
      @thenarrowboatgoodlife  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you for subscribing!
      Sounds like an exciting plan! And van life will have you well prepared for life ina small space and the constraints of water, electric etc
      We do have a car and have managed ok so far. Always finding a bridge, lay-by or village street to park it. A lot of boaters have cars.
      The challenge comes when collecting it or dropping it off. Rob cycles and I run long distance so we don’t struggle leaving it anywhere from 15 to 30 miles away. But I do know boaters who rely on buses and trains to collect them. Some CRT service points have car parks where you can leave cars too. We left our car for a month in one over summer.
      We covered having a car in video 7 if you fancy watching?!
      Good luck with your plans 😊

    Lovely vlog. Good to hear how much you love living on your beautiful boat. Certainly it looks very cosy and fits your lifestyle and hobbies perfectly. I hope you’re now settled into marina life for the winter - is there a set time for when winter moorings start? Five months does seem like a long time for you to be in one place!

    • @thenarrowboatgoodlife
      @thenarrowboatgoodlife  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you!
      There is no set time, we can stay as short or as long as we wish.
      Winter maintenance on the canals takes place from November to end of February so travel can be restricted by this, as Canal and River Trust close bridges and locks for repairs. However many boaters stay out all winter and plan their journeys around these closures. We stayed out last year.
      This year we have a busy time over Xmas and January so have chosen to stay in a marina, but may take a few weekend trips out just to break up the time.
      😊

    My husband said he didn’t snore so I filmed him one night and he had to admit he really did. Doctor suggested a sleep study and it showed how often he quit breathing so now has a CPAP to stop the lack of breathing episodes. Not saying you are the same, but just an observation.
