How to Remove Mats from Cat's Fur Safely and Easily by Hand (Bowie The Ragdoll Cat)
Mats are clumps of hair that have become entangled or knotted and can become uncomfortable and painful for a cat.
Brushing once a week is recommended. Most mats and knots will come out with brushing. If the mats are a little thicker or more tightly knotted, brushing will hurt and your cat will no longer allow it. It's less painful to remove the knots by hand. It's easy to feel where the mats and knots are and then gently detangle it by hand. If you use a detangler or anti-static spray, only use products that are intended for pets.
If it's hard to remove large mats, it can be done with a PET hair clipper.
I recommend that you get a groomer to do this, you might cut or tear the skin. I strongly advise against using scissors, it is easy to cut your cat’s skin. If you still think you can use scissors, use a comb to lift the hair from the skin. If you can’t comb the mat out or use clippers, seek help from a vet or a professional groomer!
After visiting a groomer, you only need to brush and check by hand for tangles once a week!
