  • A short video about catching surf perch with a rooster tail spinner. I cast as far as I could into the white foam in the surf since that's where the surf perch are located as they feed on sand crabs that churn up in the crashing waves.

I’m dying of envy PK! Two incidental salmon caught feeding amongst red tail in the same outing. You are absolutely “the man” my friend. I’ve caught quite a few salmon casting into miscellaneous Oregon bays and lower estuaries over the years but never I’ve never caught one surf fishing. Ever! You were absolutely correct in releasing it as they both had adipose fins which you cannot take coho anywhere in the NW zone. Little feeder coho. On roostertails!

Nice catch thanks for sharing. The point of barbless hooks is reducing the damage, it does not relate to one being able to take the fish or not. Actually, I would only use barbed hooks if I would intend to keep the fish at any cost, otherwise stick to barbless.

We catch Cohos, and especially Pinks, from shore in the Puget Sound regularly, but catching Cohos in the surf? That's cool. Everybody who's ever fished has tossed back a bleeder at one time or another, and felt bad about it. Wanted to keep it too, if it was big enough to eat and no one was looking. But the crab have to eat too, so no worries. Keep it up, love your vids.
