  • YO WHATS UP!
Today I'm here with another video tutorial "sew-along Simplicity 8613 Henley Shirt" and its pretty easy to follow. I like this pattern because you can do some cool pattern mixing and color blocking with the Henley Tee. It also comes with a v-neck and u-neck option so you can do anyone you like.

Just love this guy, and could watch him all day long. He's such an inspiration, and already has a huge following here in the UK. I've just upgraded my sewing machine to a computerised model, so just itching to get started making clothes and soft furnishings etc. There arent that many 'how to' vids on youtube (or decent patterns) for men, or for men that sew.. so this channel is a revelation. Your videos are certainly making us guys think about style and challenging us to be more creative about tailoring and design. Fantastic job Norris, and a BIG 'Thank You' From England! :-) Bless you.

Glad to see patterns for men. My big son would like this shirt. Glad I don't have to go digital. Printing patterns to piece together is difficult. Gonna pick this up and sew a couple 2 or three for my big son. Oooo, maybe I can get him to sew one.

Great sew along. It's about time we had some good patterns for men. There are such few options for them I feel. A sew along like this encourages more people to make these garments & eventually demand more pattern options. Roll on that day! Thanks Norris.

I'm going to be purchasing this pattern from a supplier here in the UK today. I can't wait to have a go at making all three of these shirts :-) I'm going to use some tracing paper and possibly trace the individual patterns from the master copy (I think). I've read from knitting patterns making sweaters, socks, gloves, scarves and clothes for myself for years, putting all the pieces together quite quickly as I go .. but I've never tackled a commercial 'sewing' pattern before lol.. so its going to be a learning experience. What I think I will do, is try and add a collar to the Henley to make a Polo shirt from it as well? Wish me luck all :-)

I love raglan and strongly think it should be the default structure. Why? Because raglan allows the wearer's shoulders to define the shoulder line. There is no ugly " shoulder seam too low" or " shoulder seam too high" with raglan. Additionally, the fabric drapes the shoulder so elegantly when uninterrupted by the seam.

Really good video - many videos show plackets, but only found yours that showed how to attach the neckband neatly once the plackets is done.

I would have loved to see HOW you sewed the neckband on and what kind of stitch you used for it and the other parts of the shirt. Kinda defeats the purpose of a sew-along, I think. This’ll be the very first piece of clothing I am sewing and this was very helpful! Definitely more detailed than the pattern.

Hi. As this is a knit, did you switch from the straight stitch used on the placket and neck band to a stretch stitch when attaching the sleeves and sewing the sides (not shown).

I'm wondering is there a technique to sewing knits? Do you gently feed the knit fabric through or you pull back a bit as the knit is fed through the machine. I'm not sure about sewing knit fabrics. Thanks. Great vid. and I just got the pattern in the mail yesterday. Can't wait to make some variations.
