My Dad and Uncle Bill got to see James Brown back in the day at the old Uptown Theater. More than a few actually. They would go to the early show and then to the late night one. Back then, especially doing what was known as the Chitlin Circuit (Theaters were African American performers could play. The Uptown was a major one on the East Coast. It was part of the what was called the Lichtman Chain. The places you played were the Uptown,, Howard Theater in D.C., the Regal in Chicago and the big place The Apollo in Harlem). My uncle told me that they were lucky to see these guys since they were born at the right place at the right time. This was when JB had the whole cape thing going. My uncle also saw Little Stevie Wonder on that tour. He wasn't just Stevie Wonder just yet. They got to see Little Richard there, Chuck Berry, Bob Diddley, Diana Ross & the Supremes, all the great doo wop groups, etc. You name it and they saw it. You take care and stay safe 😷

James Brown got us through the Civil Rights movement with his music and his activism, and by giving us the classic anthem, "I'm Black and I'm Proud." Such a great entertainer. He was the inspiration to many including Michael Jackson and Prince. Please check out JB's duet with opera legend, Luciano Pavarotti performing this song. It's mind-blowing! James was a little before my time. He scared me when I was a little girl and he was on Soul Train or Midnight Special. He was a screamer and I didn't get it yet when I was 6 or 7 years old. lmao The movie Get on Up was a movie before the music biopics were getting the respect they deserved and Chadwick Boseman was robbed. He killed the role of James in it. Nothing in music hasn't been touched by James Brown.
