The most dangerous thing for a woman to walk alone in any place in China is the street food. They are everywhere and smells so good, if you end up in the wrong place, you will put on weight for sure. I was in China with my wife and daughter between October and December 2023, and my 12-year-old daughter put on a lot of weight.
Long story short, we still love her...

I'm from the USA. Sadly this video is true. In my city, a woman walking around by herself is dangerous, but if she does so at night, it's almost guaranteed that something bad will happen to her. We got too many homeless people, crazy people, drug addicts, and criminals running around. And if it weren't bad enough, a lot of these people have guns.
My sister in law is from China, She said when she was in Chinese University, she and her girlfriends would all go out freely walking around their city, traveling by themselves, eating out, drinking late at night and they wouldn't be afraid of going anywhere or going home by themselves. After she came to the US she thought she could do the same things over here but she learned very quickly that America is much too dangerous. She said America is free on paper, but in reality if you're a woman, you're freedoms are greatly limited because the violence and crime is too high and severely limits your freedoms.
A lot of people in China take their freedoms for granted, they think it's normal and every country in the world is like them, this is just not true. Conversely, a lot of Americans are just used to the fact that their cities are flat out dangerous and never really think about what freedoms they don't have because poverty, violence, and crime are soo high.

We are not allowed to have guns or controlled knives. Carrying drugs in China is punishable by death, but no Chinese feels that he or she is not free, because our security is obtained by giving up part of our freedom. Last time I went to China, we stayed at a hotel where you need to go through a completely dark alley to get to the subway station, or you would need to go the long way around. The first night we came back from sightseeing, it was late, and we were exhausted. Outside of the exit of the subway, we just silently stared at the entrance of that dark alley, deciding whether we should risk it. Just when we were about to turn around to take the "safe" route, a young local lady came out of the dark alley and walked straight into the subway station. My friend and I just looked at each other for a few beats and then shrugged. Needless to say, we took the shortcut that night and all the nights after that.
That's the moment I started to notice how safe China currently is. Similar scenarios kept playing again and again in front of us during our trip, people were just unconcerned about walking through dark alleys or taking a stroll in a dimly lit park alone. It's a truly surreal experience.

If you don't look Asian, people might get curious and stare at you. Of course, I know this may be offensive or uncomfortable for some of you, but believe me, people are just curious and don't mean any harm. There will be no behavior that bothers you except stares. In fact, what is interesting is that if Chinese parents meet foreigners, they will encourage their children to talk to you in order to practice their English. Because Chinese tend to assume that everyone is from an English-speaking country. But please believe that we are warm, friendly, and kind. I hope this message can help people who want to travel to China. Compared to Western countries, things are cheap and everywhere is safe. Welcome to China!!

Now that I've been living in the US and just went home for a little bit, the feeling came right back. I was walking back to my hotel way past midnight and safety wasn't nearly a concern. It was bright out, people driving, bicycling, walking on the street still.

I am a woman who grew up in Beijing, China and lived in the US for six years, and I 100% agree with this video. Before coming to the US I wasn't even aware of how safe China is. For a night out, the only reason I had to worry about time is that I couldn't catch the last metro (usually around 11:30pm) so that I had to take a taxi - less affordable, but never that I'm going to be unsafe. I really enjoyed wondering around alone on streets at night because it's quiet and dark. But I couldn't do this in the US even in the safest neighborhoods, because the thoughts of the potential dangers just come to me and make me feel uncomfortable, not to mention for areas like downtown where even walking in group and/or with men could be unsafe. And it's interesting because before watching your video I never realized that there are many police on the streets of China, because I never needed one. Living in Chicago right now and the police is also everywhere, and I'd intentionally look for them to choose the roads close to a police car. But there was one time where my friend got robbed right in front of a bunch of police cars, the funniest thing is they didn't catch the robber, and suggested my friend to report thief instead of robbery so it's easier to close case - really made me not trust the police as much as I did before. That being said, still love many other aspects of the US, but in terms of safety China is definitely way better.

I think it's dangerous to go out at night in China, even late at night, because there's always a lot of good food on the streets, and you have to eat a little bit. It's a bit dangerous for your purse, especially when it's close to 12 when you want to eat.😋

I echo the video. I have been to China maybe 10 times to different cities. Not once I felt unsafe no matter what time of the day and where I was. Here in the US you have certain Neighbors that you know it’s unsafe , but not in china. Every neighborhood is safe. Additionally Chinese people are the most friendly people on earth. They helped me a bunch when I was there. You will have a good experience when travel there.

I'm living in Australia for more than 20 years. Last year I went back to my home city of Harbin, China with my husband. One night I had a fight with my husband and went out of the hotel after 9pm. I went to the cinema to watch movie by myself, after the movie, I walked alone the famous central street of Harbin, to enjoy the beautiful night views, and bought some delicious food, then walked all the way to riverside, It's so nice to came out on the street just by myself, really enjoyed the time alone. After midnight I went back hotel safely. My husband called my parents few times when I was out, but even my parents didn't worry at all, they calm down my husband, said it's very safe in Harbin even in the night. From then I became loving going outside in the night in China, that's so beautiful and relaxing 😂

The cost of committing a crime in China is also very high. As long as you have a criminal record, your parents, your siblings, your sons and grandsons, and the four generations of family members related to you will no longer be able to engage in decent jobs. Such as officials, teachers, doctors, police and other government public positions. Also a warning to criminals, consider your family before you commit a crime

One of the guys got robbed by a gang. He’s a bit traumatized after he came back from there. Anyway, I’d like to say China maybe relatively safer compared to in SA, and that safety is largely due to the massive surveillance system deployed by the police in the past decade, but still at least be careful about your personal belongings.
