Dr Diane has done the work herself. She's done the introspection that Christians should be doing. She's daily allowed the Cross to be her standard of living and I can hear it in her words and how she uses them. She's not afraid of the opinion of man. She calls for accountability and is relentless in her interrogating the blatant sin of the church and of those who call themselves Christians. This is someone who understands the gravity of being a disciple of Christ. May the Lord continue to bless her, continue to give her wisdom and strengthen her to continue fighting the good fight. In Jesus' Name🙌🏽

I'm a former Jehovah's Witness excommunicated for searching, seeking, eventually converting to Evangelical Christianity. 12 years later I'm a seminarian graduate, Children's Minister and author but suffer still from the effects of spiritual abuse --12 years direct cutting off, zero contact from beloved family and community. God give us all strength....

I felt so validated by this interview. Both of you express such concern for upholding God, His truth, and the church.
For decades my pastor husband used his knowledge and position to bully and abuse myself and our children, and in various ways, the congregation. You are right,, Diane,, he was "such a good teacher". He knew the biblical languages,, etc.. The cognitive dissonance was massive! He had so isolated us that I was very fearful that if I spoke up about his verbal, psychological and spiritual abuse in our home, that I would lose all my friends and my children. Eventually, the Lord got us out. He is deceased. God is good. I am free. Everyone who had any meaningful association with him eventually was wounded by him. So grievous!

The term for such a person, as you almost certainly know, is "malignant narcissist."

    • @bobtaylor170
      @bobtaylor170 Před 2 lety +1

@The Wandering M , your first paragraph makes no sense. Abusers know not to act in public the way they do privately. And far from labeling's being cartoonish and goofy, a refusal to label is close to a definition of insanity, moral insanity, in this instance.
You're right, of course. We're all born on the narcissism spectrum. Comparatively few people live out their lives as narcissists, however, because socialization and experience foster the development of a sense of others, and of conscience. This is regardless of whether the individual becomes a Christian. For the Christian, of course, the conscience should become more gradually more acute as he lives out his life.
Diane Langberg has spent her career in doing therapy with sexual abuse victims, many of whom have been abused by church officers or just outspoken, self proclaimed Christians. Would you expect her not to label a sex abuser a sex abuser? And inasmuch as your username is unsettling ( M, great 1930 German expressionistic film about a child sex killer ), I wonder if you are not as upset as you are because you have abused others?

It makes you feel the world so "dark" when you have been abused spiritually. When you know that under the cloak is a different actor and that actor is hidden from others.
I wish you love and people around you who will give you back what you lost: trust, believing that nobody was born to be abused by others, nobody was born to be here to have the right to use and abuse,
and I wish you a community (even if it us as small as 1 or 2 people) that respects, value and love you. As you are. Because you are enough. More than just enough.
But not for everybody and it is absolutely ok.

  • @asparrow5505
    @asparrow5505 Před 3 lety +28

A church is a spiritual family. You have to test to see if it's an abusive/toxic environment or not. They can often be like narcissistic family systems. This is why a growing amount of people are ok with not having a church home. It's better to be alone than to be with people that repeatedly damage you. It's also a detriment to evangelism. Who wants to join a toxic spiritual family? Know your boundaries. Know your bible. Conviction from the Holy Spirit, gentle biblical correction and human condemnation are different things.

I’m so glad that people are finally being more transparent about this sort of thing. I’ve been a victim of this many times in different churches and been humiliated and treated like I’m the trouble maker but the last time it happened I knew more about it to put the truth of the matter out even if I was seriously uncomfortable. I found out during my recovery process with my Jesus why I wasn’t getting better in church and when it began to unravel God gave this quiet the most least likely little girl an incredible assignment. He took what upset me so much to be apart of the change I longed to see so people like me could get the help we need and our churches would become a safe refuge for our hurting souls. I’ve upset a lot of people because of what I was finding out but God used me anyway like he is using the both of you to turn on the lights so the rats can run and people can truly experience healing, hope and restoration!! I’m still healing from this hurt but this CZcams video has really helped and blessed me immensely. Thank you so very much.

This type of abuse of authority can turn people away from church for life. Its like an abusive parent that demands love but tries to gain it through fear, guilt, shame, etc. Its very similar to narcissistic abuse. When I became a Father I realized I could never push these beliefs on my children. I could never threaten or condemn something I created.

A great talk by this wise lady. Matt 18.15-17 is a key, practical strategy for dealing with someone who's sinned against, hurt or offended us etc (even someone in authority). How many times have we actually put this part of the Word of God into practice in church? I would suspect that this is done very rarely and NEVER taught from the pulpit. If we don't organise ourselves in the way laid out in the Bible, we shouldn't be surprised when scandals happen.

this Lady is incredibly honest . her answers are common sense based ,when I started to listen to the video .I didn't realize it was about Ravi ,I have commented on other videos about this problem. it seems to me that Ravi did what he did because he was assisted by the people around him .Those People are Christians, and yet they said nothing .the more I hear about the whole case of Ravi , it's obvious that his lies were covered up by the people around him,I feel that they are probably more guilty than him .
another thing ! ,the church seems to be a place for predators to operate in complete impunity . Christians today seem to be impressed by diplomas and certificates ,ithink Christianity is in Danger of becoming an intellectual mind game ,a sort of hobby !. All of the apostles had jobs and paid their own way ,they didn't have the prestigious titles that we seem to be so impressed with. when women or men are abused in any church they should go to the police and the abusers should be punished . people are never just one thing and if they are making money from God's word ,we should look very closely, having a job puts people in contact with normal everyday people .the church is us ,all of us.what ever denomination ,the church is Christ Jesus, AMEN.
what is shameful is this has been going on for centuries and we still think it's something new. just yesterday someone said to me the reason they didn't go to church was because it's full of perverts.
it's so sad ,to think that is what people think of the church.
when I asked the same person ( is Jesus Christ your Lord and Saviour) the Man said absolutely and he prays every day. I believe there are Billions more Christians than we realize.

Church Code of Silence: I saw well-meaning church code of silence cause great distress. In one church it split over a feud that spilled out onto everyone. We were told to ignore it and don’t talk about it. The feud went underground and tore the church apart slowly. At my next church I was a youth worker & teacher. Church camp was great fun until one day I saw two teen boys hump on each other in simulated homosexual sex or rape. They did it from behind; with clothes on. But adult workers ignored & minimized it. The acts became worse as they did fake sex acts in their beds and naked in the showers, with sound effects. The wild boys said it was all a joke, but most boys were horrified and young boys were afraid of being raped. I protested to the youth director harder and harder. I wondered if his resistance was because he had done that as a teenager. I’d never seen such a thing, but I learned it had become common in the youth culture. It was certainly a sexual harassment hostile environment. One wild boy did expose himself to a girl and was sent home; but the director and other adults failed to see the connection. I feared that this could spill-over to boys molesting the girls or consensual sex resulting in pregnancy or STD’s. On paper no PDA (public displays of affection) is allowed at camp or any church function. But the homosexual fake sex was ignored, even where there was lack of consent. I knew it was only a matter of time before church parents heard about this and it all blew up; maybe into a legal case that could have destroyed the church. It seems none of the dozen adult workers wanted to blow the whistle. I realized that I could have been expelled from the church in the sweeping denial and avoidance. I decided I’d blow the lid off, even go to the press, if I was kicked out of the youth department or church. I gave sexual harassment legal literature to church leaders, and with one other adult, we finally made enough noise to discipline the wild boys; and hit the problem with a big hammer. A couple years later a very young sponsor (about 24) humped a teenager in view of 30 teens and adults. The teenager complained a few days later, and got the adult kicked out of the church. Once again the adults should have reacted immediately but didn’t. That was a crime and charges should have been brought.
I had experience with sexual harassment after a molestation incident at my work. They had been lax and came close to being sued. I offered to share my legal training with the church but was ignored.

Some people who said there is no such thing as mental health sickness or traumas, etc. The reason is that some of them are one of the predators, not the victims. They are selfish, moronic individuals who try to hide and protect their own guilty conscience and to sooth it to make it feel better and said, "They have the choice.'' Do they mean to say it is the raped victim's choice to choose to forgive them. If they don't, they will live a miserable life? The words in Corinthians say not to associate with such people unless they have repented. But no repentance was done by the predator, and the victim was asked not to complain so as not to jeopardise the life of the predator! The rapist is not the one who suffered but is trying to defend himself by saying there is no such thing as mental illness resulting from the traumas. Another one even suggested to thank God for the opportunity for committing the criminal act afterwards. Unbelievable. Thanks God for the chance to sin ? Which part of the bible teaches that?

What is spiritual abuse? To use the authority of God as a pastor or ministry leader over people with open hearts, there to receive from God, to hurt and destroy those humble people, who have been taught to greatly respect the leaders as sent by God. They would normally teach the word of God, so we would think them godly. Abusive words come unexpected and strike directly into the heart, the person confused and tied up with inability to react properly, given it is such a special person they were used to listen to. Worst problem: we would believe them, since we normally do, and despise ourselves, since we can't dispise them.

Most misunderstood Jesus' practical ministry. He was very a practical teacher. His leadership was a great legacy for His disciples. But sad for many of us christians we preach more than live more.

The wider church groups.... being other church leaders...even low level.. in another denomination in another city.... will phone your minister and report anything you have said....it is amazing how toxic it is...hard to talk to anyone about what is going on in the church..happens to church leaders also....it goes up the chain to control them as well...

Not that no one knew about it but they chose to cover up lest the benefits they had been enjoying gone with the wind, that is only one of the reasons for the many covering ups. More to come.....

Shalom and many blessings to you all. As Shakespeare said there is no good or bad it's the thought that makes it so. And my observation of the world there still is no good or bad or no good or evil there is only good and there is only God. Do we not live in God's all in all. And is God not in me as well as in you as well as in us and also as in all. So we are in God and God is in US. There's over a million ways to celebrate your faith in God. None of them are wrong. The only wrong is not understanding that Adam and Eve took on life and death to purge Humanity itself from the corrupted mind-state. Jesus Christ spoke about this very thing when he told his Apostles to get behind me Satan speaking as it was a mindset. He also tried to explain how the world is using the lens of God to browbeat the people into submission and it happens to this very day. So take your truth as you know it, take your iamness and shroud yourself in God the creator of all things. For we are born in the flesh as Adam shrouded in the blood of Christ given our Holy Spirit and thus we follow God in order to create his Majestic Heaven here on Earth. As I walked this path of Peace in love I hope it is yours as well. Made my peace and love find you through the power of Christ and God's grace. Amen.💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

The problem is that these Pastors (church leaders, etc) obviously don’t have a relationship with Jesus Christ and should never have been given that position in the first place.
The most basic issue is that Christianity has become a formulaic religious system, which has so little connection with the truth of the scriptures that it’s what Jesus scorned in the Pharisees of His days.
We are more concerned with appearance and being comfortable than following the commands of Jesus Christ and the demands of the word of God, that are not preached or understood by the majority of professing Christians, who have no real relationship with the LORD they claim to love.
The reality of the spiritual war that rages all around us is not even on the radar of the average Christian in the Western world.
The hierarchy of the average church is almost entirely contradictory to the words of Jesus Christ about how the shepherds are NOT to wield power over the sheep, but to be their SERVANTS. His example of washing the feet of the disciples was for that purpose.
The idea that the Pastor knows more about God than the sheep is a laughable nonsense, as I have spoken with seminary graduates who don’t even know the books of the Bible.

what if you feel like you are so misunderstood by councelers who I think really want to help but keep bringing up the "old and the new" (in Christ), and the Bible verses that I'd have to read.... eventhough I do not think that could heal me 😢 I have done so much of that already.... really
I really want to be respectful and obey others and submit myself to them and their words but I feel so lost and misunderstood, even by loving christians.. and I really know that they mean well.. and I truly am grateful.. but I am just struggling so much and I do not know where I can go with my troubles anymore...😢

The victim is attacked and becomes the perpetrator and the perpetrator becomes the victim. They protect the wolf, it's sad but true. The church that I'm in is a definite hiding place for wolves. What disturbs my spirit is the Pastor not being able to let go of the red blood gang colors that he use to be a part of. He doesn't like the color blue because it's the color of the gang crips. He was a blood in the past in a gang. I have become the punching bag. I refuse to worship this man, he's a man not God. A lot of people that go to this church came out of street, and all of them embrace the street mentality. Now a lot of them are gangsters in the house of God. Iwas raped and he protected the man instead of me. He does a lot of bullying. I was in a class at 8 on Sunday morning. I pulled the door to open it and it made a noise because it was locked and I didn't know it. He came out yelling at me, I did nothing but tried to open the door.

The whole idea that someone can be tortured to death for what you have done wrong and take responsibility for you, is a very bad idea. Someone shouldn't offer this, nor should someone ask for it. But further, to classify yourself as a "sinner" and "bad" sets the stage for abuse. If I'm a race car driver, and I crash my car, does mean I'm a "car crasher"? No. It means I need to work at driving.
