- The ultimate Operatic Quiz, for connoisseurs only - Part 1.
The clips are very generous in length, and the singers are all very famous - no Achille Braschi or Tenghiz Zaashvili here. All world class superstars (merited or not). Mostly tenors, but with a few other voices thrown in for fun. If you really know your operatic voices, please post you answers here, not by PM. Good luck - you need it! :D

I've just discovered this and sense that I'm in for hours racking my brains and rooting through my CD collection... thanks, Imogenn! :) (The humorous hints are fun too.)
1. Alagna (but without the hint wouldn't have picked up distinguishing marks through the baritone.)
2. Wunderlich! (wonderful indeed)
3. ?
4. Domingo
5. Hint suggests MDM to me
6. Gigli (????)
7. Ramey
8. ...I know I know this voice.
9. Corelli
10. Bocelli
Do we get an answer key if we ask nicely? :)
1. Roberto Alagna (i doubt I'm wrong, but if I am then the only other tenor it could be is Neil Shicoff)
2. Fritz Wunderlich for sure
3. dunno... but I don't think it's Del Monaco
4. Plácido Domingo
5. Ramón Vinay
6. sounds like Schmidt
7. Samuel Ramey
8. late-career Nilsson
9. Franco Corelli
10. Andrea Bocelli
1. Roberto Alagna...but popular at La Scala?
2. Fritz Wunderlich ( I cheated...no clue)
3. Mario Del Monaco
4. Placido Domingo
5. Alfred E. Newman (a little levity)
6. Beniamino Gigli?? Where's the final 'tu'
in 'Recondita armonia?' Probably not an
Italian tenor without that 'tu.'
7. Samuel Ramey
8. Joan Sutherland
9. Franco Corelli
10. Andrea Bocelli
1. Alanga 2. Wunderlich 3.Peter something can't remember last name, German wagnerian, bit popular in 80's. not Schrier. 4.Domingo 5. James King 6.? 7. Ramey in slow LP player. 8.? 9. Corelli in slow LP player. 10. Bocelli, if it is, sound effect is very tricky.

3.???
4. Domingo
5. ???
6. Schmidt
7. Samuel Ramey
8. Monserrat Caballé
9. Jose Carreras

I'll take a stab at the tenors. Since I can't really discern soprano voices unless they're someone like Ponselle! Or baritones unless they are VERY distinctive voices.
2. Wunderlich!
3. Heppner?
4. Domingo trying to sing Wagner
5.Vinay?
6.Schmidt!!!!! (if not it must be a soviet tenor)
9.Corelli who never sang the role (????)
10. No idea
Congratulations! Very interesting and funny.
I think ElPiconero is right, but my only doubt is number 5... can it be Vezzani?
Ombra Mai Fu - Wunderlich, Siegmund sounds to me like Del Monaco, other one seems to be Domingo, last one is Vinay, Cavarodossi is Bjorling I'm guessing, ok Otello is definitely Corelli! I forgot that he did record Niun Mi Tema much much later, and the vocal quality is quite consistent with that recording (going from memory obviously)
Corelli actually sang some excerpts from the role at concerts after his operatic retirement in 1976
AfoPoli, I haven't got the answers for the 24 singer quiz yet.

10. Yes, famous but not much of an actual opera singer! It's funny, as I kept listening 2 it I was sayin' 2 myself: "Lots of Corelli mannerisms there". So it must B some1 who studied w/him. I got it! Bocelli:) Nice try Imogenn. Put only Tenors & I'll guess 'em all!
am not really good at identifying those tenor voices, but for one,im sure...andrea on the 10th voice...:))
I agree. Of course, I was joking in my other posts. However, I find this recording of Corelli (I believe it is him) so bad that it could be... you know who.
@musicmann2005 But..it sounded like Alagna
singing out of his fach.
give me some divas (I knw there's Dame Joan Sutherland)
The singer of #1 has a truly nasty voice. Is it maybe Erwin Schrott?
#9 sounds like Walter Pondman but why would you put him in such a quiz?
#10: Aragall
Yummy quiz.
Yeah, but that Otello sounds more like Pondman on a really bad day...
Message me the answers please.
