Does Redex diesel treatment improve fuel consumption. realworld test and review

  • I have previously tested Redex diesel system cleaner. I thought a second test on a different car would be interesting
    It claims to improve performance and reduce emissions.
    With the cost of fuel being at its highest I test for a real world Mpg improvement
    Performance improvement is subjective but I will give you my opinion,

    Depends on driving habits. More motorway = cleaner engine. Urban driving like what I do really builds up the carbon inside affecting mpg like mine did. 30mpg i noticed I was getting to low for my 2.0 hdi 136. Now with 2 shots ran through it in 1 tank I'm back up to 43mpg.

      A good stint at 90mph on the motorway will clear the injectors and give better throttle response.

      @@lameduck3630if you make it 100mph you’ll get much better fuel economy too. Being banned for a year really curbs your trips to fill up 😂

    I tried it in my 8yr old Peugeot van before it was 44mpg, with a quarter tank of fuel and a whole bottle in the tank, a gave it a run about within 3days before refuelling, I gained up to 56mpg, amazing stuff which worked perfectly, always used Redex for well over 30yrs👍🏻

    It's not one of my stronger subjects. But as this is a cleaner wouldn't the next tank of fuel show the benefits in the then clean engine. Nice to see honesty in your video.

    None of it worked for me. The very first time I tried Redex for a petrol engine I unscrewed the sparkplugs and poured it in, then added it to the fuel tank, turned the engine over and had 4 splatters of muck down the wall. What followed was a white cloud for 30mins and no improvement on power or economy. Years later I tried it on a diesel and it was of no use whatsoever, all it contained was Kerosene - that is all. You can buy that yourself and put it in the tank. It never kept the engine or injectors clean, never did a thing for the DPF that broke after just 11,000miles with over half being motorway journeys.
    Additives are a waste of time and money as manufacturers know you can not prove they do nothing.
    It's similar to those useless small surface area cotton gauze air filters with oil all over them to break the MAF sensor, or the ones made from foam that sag in the air box and get sucked in to the turbo!
    If you go dissolving dirt or varnish type substances from inside the fuel system, where do you think it ends up... In the injectors, to block them.
    The whole thing about Premium Fuels is one massive scam too, there is no difference between the way they perform and in most cases the pumps are connected to the same underground storage tanks anyway.

      It has a kerosene base as the carrier for various detergents, It is NOT just kerosene, I honestly don’t work for Redex lol, but I would be careful in this day and age making derogatory claims that I have no evidence to back up against substantially sized companies in public, we all have opinions but we have to only say what can easily be proven as true.

      Wow, so much misnformation in a tight package. Impressive.
      EDIT: although the oiled air filter thing is correct, it does ruin MAF sensor.
      But everything else is completely incorrect.

    Didn't think this stuff was for getting better MPG right off the bat! You would need to use it a few times to clean out your DPF system. The only real way of testing that is unfortunately waiting until you get the dashboard lights Christmas tree effect when the DPF puts everything haywire.

    • @glchow
      @glchow  Před rokem +3

      I don't think this would clean the Dpf. It' would be burnt up in the combustion. It can clean up the injector nozzle, value seats, piston rings and generally the cylinder. It is also a cylinder lubricant. The way it can improve fuel economy is by cleaning the injector for more controlled spray and the upper cylinder lubricant could restore compressions. If the engine is in optimal condition it is unlikely to improve but could help maintain.

    • @Bond2025
      @Bond2025 Před 8 měsíci

      You will NOT get additives like that to clean out a DPF ! Do you know what one is and how it works?
      The only way to clean a DPF is using Mr Muscle oven cleaner and leaving it to soak for a few hours, then using a power washer on it. You will need to reset the faults on the ECU too.
      Too many forced regenerations on a diesel has a terrible destructive effect - probably by design thinking about it now.
      Extra fuel is spray in to the cylinders on the exhaust cycle, this unused diesel heats up and "sets fire" to the DPF inside and creates a huge temperature to burn the soot off and blow it out the back. The side effect is diesel contaminating engine oil, components being damaged by high temperatures, glow plugs often with cylinder pressure sensors having the tips melted off and causing bigger problems, extra cost of servicing required more frequently and the sheer cost of all that extra wasted diesel.
      If it was as simple as using a £5 additive in the fuel, people would.
      The alternative is remove the DPF and find a sympathetic garage, loads of dishonest ones will take payment for parking another vehicle next to yours during the MOT, or you can simple re-fit it for the day.

      I think you are confusing products, redex does a separate dedicated product for dpfs, surprisingly called Redex dpf cleaner 😂

    • @NapoleonDynamites
      @NapoleonDynamites Před 4 měsíci

      @gimble447 That's the stuff I was thinking of, and my advice would be not to use it. I put it in my last car and it completely blocked up the DPF.

    • @gimble447
      @gimble447 Před 4 měsíci

      @@NapoleonDynamites I’ve only used it personally as a preventative ( I had a brand new dpf in 2021 along with an eolys fluid top up) I use half a bottle every 2k miles as my use is very speradic , I can spend a whole month in city centre then a whole month on A roads and motorways so it’s always good for piece of mind on the “city” months as it works by reducing the temperature that soot is burned off. That’s all I can say really as I’ve never used it on an old or blocked dpf myself.

    Doesn’t premium diesel offer the same benefits? Correct me if I am wrong please

    • @glchow
      @glchow  Před 9 měsíci

      Premium diesel has additives in over standard diesel, but how much more? All diesel has to have a cleaning additive to meet British / euro standards. Premium diesel is normally 10p litre much so an extra £5 per fill on this 50litre tank. This cost me £2.50 and does 2 tanks. So it is cheaper than premium diesel and more likely to be better.
