The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (GBA) - Longplay (No Damage)

One of my favorite Disney Christmas movies that I love to watch as a kid and that was The Santa Clause series. The first film is where Scott Calvin is an ordinary man living in an ordinary life. But his life is about to change when he ran outside and killed the old Santa who fell off of his roof and must become the new Santa. The second film is where Scott Calvin must find a wife to continue as Santa. Or else he would stop being Santa Claus forever. Wasn't really all that bad. I liked it almost as much as the first. Because it expands on The Santa Clause mythos and it has compelling characters including Bernard from the first film and a great villain. However I wish I could say the same thing about the third in the series.
The Santa Clause 3 The Escape Clause not only has tons of problems and to many subplots but we are missing David Krumholtz as Bernard the head elf in this third film and the entire movie is going from sweet to dark because of Jack Frost. Plus I don't care about the people in the alternate universe. I want to know what had happen to the characters that spend the first two movies following. Not theses other versions of them. The pacing is all over the place and the Canada jokes get old really fast. Also they copy and paste the first film after Scott and Jack Frost went back in time to 1994 twice.
After Jack Frost takes the coat it cause the time line to shift. In the alternate universe Scott comes to in his office at the company that he left during the first film when he became Santa permanently. Without becoming Santa he became the CEO of the company but there were some family issues. He neglected his son Charlie since the first two films are all about Scott's experience as Santa leaving him to become a bad father to Charlie and Laura and Neal are divorced and Principal Newman the principal of Charlie's school moved away after the darker version of the second film happened.
I like the time travel in the movie and they did got it right but other than that however it's still a weak film.
Because well not only that but also in the alternate universe Jack Frost turns the North Pole into a theme park.
Not only that the ending was lazy when Lucy's warm hugs made Jack Frost a good guy.
It's just a recipe for disaster that undermines the point of the source material and it doesn't do anything to add to it.
If I was the producer for The Santa Clause 3 The Escape Clause I would not only wait a few more years until David Krumholtz is done with his TV show Numb3rs so he can come back playing Bernard again but I would also tone down Jack Frost a bit and tone the Canada jokes down a bit as well. I would do something different to the new time line like showing bits from the first two films that would be changed. Maybe after Jack Frost takes the coat Scott will not only turn back into his normal self but just like the Christmas classic movie A Christmas Carol he will watch Past Scott and his family from the first film and second film showing the bad things that would happen where Past Scott neglects his son Charlie at a point where Scott as Santa didn't and 8 years later show Carol leaving and Neal and Laura file for divorce because if Scott didn't became Santa his family fell apart. It would have made a big difference to show theses parts so that when Scott is in the new time line after seeing all of the bad stuff that had happened to his family I want to see him fix it.
But will he become Santa again? Because it would have been a lot better to fix everything in the new time line to get Scott into being Santa again and return to the original timeline where he is Santa than to go all the way to the North Pole Theme Park and get the magic snow globe and trick Jack Frost with the recording pen.
And I would also change the ending because the first two films are both great for both kids and adults to enjoy. The third film is just kind of slap stick kid humor which isn't bad but the first two are all about legal shenanigans. The third wasn't they didn't have that cool business card from the first two films.
Other than that Martin Short is out of control and to crazy for a villain. I would probability chose a different actor to play Jack Frost be size Martin Short. I would probability give Mike Myers or maybe Chris Tucker or perhaps Jim Carrey to play the role.
I bet one of those actors will be a good choice to play Jack Frost and I bet one of them would be even better compare to what we got. Martin Short can be funny depends on who writes for him but this is not the kind of film he should be taking part in. Plus he's not as good as Toy Santa in the second movie.
Not only that the third film did not share the same success as the first film or even the second film did. Not just in terms of reception and for a worst sequel but terms of box office budget. It only made $12 million dollars back from it's $110.8 million dollar budget.
The Santa Clause 2 on the other hand made roughly 4 times it's budget. So the third film was definitely a step back. There were also plans for a fourth film to add to the series but since the third movie got so many Golden Raspberry Awards that they can not continue The Santa Clause series. Because with all of the subplots and problems that the third film is having. You can tell that they are running out of ideas for future Santa Clause movies to add to the series.
The good news is Disney will be doing a Santa Clause Disney+ series. I don't know when it's going be released on Disney Plus but I'm sure Disney is planing on doing it and hopefully they will bring back David Krumholtz to play Bernard the head elf to be part of the new series and learn the problems that the third movie had to deal with.
In all honesty The Santa Clause 3 The Escape Clause is a Christmas movie that's so bad it's unbearable. Plus it let down The Santa Clause series. But I've seen some far worse Christmas movies that doesn't show the true spirit of Christmas. But this isn't it. At best it's just a really weird expansion plot, a weird sequel and a bad Christmas movie over all that should best be forgotten.
I like the first two movies and this one needs to be a bit more to become the movie that I want to see. Sure it is a Christmas movie made for kids and adults but it doesn't mean it has to be bad.
This movie could have been so much more if they take a break for making The Santa Clause movies for a while and by the time they get to the year of 2014 which marks the 20th Anniversary of the first film they will think of some great ideas that will work for the third movie and try to make it a little more like the first two films.
If you are looking for a good Tim Allen Christmas movie with comedy done right better to watch the first two Santa Clause films and Christmas with the Kranks instead of watching all three Santa Clause movies.
