I'm always glad to see Trials of Mana on a must play list! Even though the remake has watered down the class system and some abilities are nerfed, it's still such a fun and addictive game.
Remember guys if nintendo decides randomly after the switch 2 what not that they no longer want to support these games they can and constantly do day one patches gone games useless and reviewers who say the switch is dying should be ashamed of themselves because it be their fault for not fighting this atrocity
Yeah I picked up the collection to play the SNES version and Secret of Mana.
For me its just too old “school”. The meat and potatoes is the battle gameplay. No fast travel, you just go running from point A to Point B (no sidequests, so few NPC dialogs, towns are boring and just exist to advance the plot), the story its paper thin.
@@koxame As someone who grew up in the 90s, I adore classic RPGs. Honestly, NPCs having too much dialogue and countless sidequests are kind of tedious to me. I do have to say that I prefer the original Seiken Densetsu III by a mile, but I still enjoy the remake. The best thing, to me, is the class change system, there are so many possibilities once you got into it. It also helps that the characters are all loveable and I enjoyed how their stories intertwine. So yeah, I guess it comes down to if you like old school RPGs or not. I didn't find a modern action RPG yet that really blew me away.
I played all of those games except 2 (Brigandine and FF) i enjoyed all of them. Great recommendations!
personally i prefer Ys 8 over 9 but I agree with all the other games, excellent video

If you haven’t gotten the chance to play Octopath Traveler 2 then I hope you do soon but OH MY GOD WHAT A GAME. Everything about it is amazing
However, it is sad that the game is not selling well (only reach 1mil copies after 4 months as an all platform game). Not sure SE's future plan on the series.

@@deanthelemur1716that defeats the entire purpose. I doubt they made it for the masses. Some of us old folks still enjoy sprite based art in our RPGs. Graphics aren't the end all.
I wish Square would make a legit sequel to Xenogears. Best RPG ever.
Sadly Xenogears was supposed to have a remake or something of sort and it got denied
Chrono Cross is one of my favorite rpg, I like the Radical Dreamer Edition.
I think Bravely default 2 and Triangle strategy is very good

My top 3 RPG's not mentioned:
1. Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition
2. Monster Sanctuary
3. Ruined King
Ruined king is such a lovely game it’s one of my favorite currently on the switch. I’m just sad their is no physical edition available for the game😭
I have never played a Fire emblem game before but when 3 houses went on sale before I was to have surgery. And I'm still playing 3 months later this time witb black eagles. All I can say I always recommend.

Good golly, I'll be honest, a lot of these games I have on backlog mode: Trials of Mana, Coldsteel IV, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, YS 8, FF12 Zodiac Age, Tactics Ogre, Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and Dragon Quest 11. Out of these games, I've only completed the exhaustingly long but brilliantly made Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I am currently on Persona 5 Royal trying to beat it before Persona 5 Tactica releases alongside Super Mario RPG. Other titles in this list I wanna get especially Shin Megami 5 and Chained Echos. If only we can freeze time so we can enjoy these games. So many games so little time. Watching Maximillian Good's gameplay of FF15 because I know I aint got the time to get that title to play.
I'm almost done with my last playthrough of Trials of Mana but own YS VIII and Xenoblade only to have put these others on pause because of the time I put into it.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is such an amazing game. Worthy of its GOTY nomination.
No it's bad, FF16 demo is already a better game than that and so a better GOTY

I would agree xenoblade just felt out of place, I tried to get into it but kept getting put off with the cringey voice acting and awkward spacing between lines and broken sentences.

Final fantasy 12 is still one of the most slept on games. Truly one of the all time greats that still almost no one has played compared to other releases in the series.
Action RPGs are my favorite RPGs just got Dragon's Dogma for under $5 and can't wait to play it.

@@HeartofSPIRIT3 Was never a fan of Resident Evil so for me Capcom games weren't on my radar. But got MH Rise then Ultimate and devil may cry all great so I just started Dragon's Dogma and now I'm looking at PCs so I can play MH World and Dragon's Dogma 2 and ubisoft's Star wars outlaw looks good. Thinking the Switch is the end of the line for me with Nintendo have had to replaced most of the hardware and have been enjoying 3rd party games more.

Yep, after playing chained echoes, I was consistently looking for more indie rpg gems and sea of stars looks like it will surpass chained echoes. super excited.

Tactics Ogre Reborn has a great story and gameplay/mechanics, game really has it all. I'm 600 hours in still building god characters who can clear a field on their own.

the Chained Echoes is the amazing RPG, i remember inspirations part in xenogears and chrono trigger
I gotta say, I only disagree with 2 of these games but you nailed the others right on the head so maybe I’ll have to give those 2 another try.
Ys 8 deserves to be here. Also, FE three houses was better than engage imo

Not just your opinion. This was the main thing that threw me off about this list cause Ys8 and FE 3 houses are far superior to their sequels
I think it depends on what you want in a strategy game, Engage was miles ahead of 3h in terms of gameplay and 3h was way better in terms of story. I like both, but definitely for different reasons

Trials of Mana very disappointingly has a LOT of fluff. From the terrible, just go around to a bunch of places with little story connecting them issue, and the ridiculously unfun boss rush before the end that takes forever, because all they did was make the enemies take even longer to kill.

You can check collection of mana, legend of mana and trials of mana. all of them are good imo.
Trials of Mana is pretty good in my opinion. It's simple enough, easy to pick up, beautiful, not demanding; also it doesn't last an eternity as most RPGs nowadays, yet it offers replayability if you want more. Don't feel bad if you want to stop playing it for a few months and then continue it; you'll pick it up where you left it without much re-learning. I'd say the same for Dragon Quest XI, another easygoing game, with charm and a simple/classic story line.

You picked the wrong Xenoblade and Ys titles! Not a bad list otherwise though.
Which xenoblade do you think he should have chosen ? Sure I love xenoblade 2, but the third one got a more modern UI, and feel easier to handle. The first xenoblade... well, a good story, good chars, but omg the fighting gameplay is not good compared to the others. (I've not played X yet)
@@quentinhedouin5159 fliped for me i preferred xenoblad's combat over 2's, I did like X, wish there was more mech types, and the story was a bit weaker if you did not go out of your way to find it, combat system is close to xenoblades, but had a few things to it that where eventually used in 2. Worse thing about X is it leaves waaaaaaaay to much unanswered at the end.

I agree about the great gameplay and the beautiful graphics for fire emblem engage but a well written story? I must disagree. It's not too bad, but it's far from good.
Still, as a tactical game he is very good.
Funfact, most of those jrpg games can be played on pc aswell except for Shin megami tensai 5, Xenoblade 3 and Fire emblem games.
Can't believe how none of these lists that have neverwinter nights or pillars of eternity on them. Was hoping to find another game like those two by watching these videos but no luck

When you said Fire Emblem Engage had a well written story and memorable characters, you completely lost me. It doesn't hold a candle to Three Houses in either regard.
I dont understand why youd recommend the last game of the cold steel seriee to newcomers...assuming thats the target audience of the video. What a wierd move.
How tf do none of these lists ever mention Divinity: Original Sin 2, Disco Elysium, Planescape: Torment and Knights of the Old Republic. Literally some of the best RPGs of all time.
came here expecting this to be a list dominated by games on other platforms...and its indeed a list dominated by games available on other platforms. A better title would be 15 awesome RPGs for switch, 11 of which you already beat on PlayStation 5+ years ago.

XC3 is shit compared to XCDE. 35 hours in and couldn't stand it any more.

I have to disagree on Ys 9, 8th is a whole ton better than 9. 9 is very gloomy and the story is weak, if not the weakest in the whole series. People say it's saving grace is the combat, but I think it's not that much better than 8. 8 on the other hand is vibrant, has an enormous island to explore, has the best story in the series, it's just perfect (IMO). Unfortunately both titles have this dumbass "forced defend the city" mechanic but it's a lot less annoying in 8 at least.
I love the YS series, and it is one of the best franchises of all time for me. YS 8 and 9 are almost equal, but I still prefer 9. It has greater combat, a darker ambiance, and the traversal is fun and fast (running, gliding etc.). It is a matter of preference when it comes to YS series.

I have heard that the game (YS 9) has FPS problems specially in overcrowded battles or the main map. Is that bug fixed yet?
