  • The sound of the whistle of the RMS Titanic and the RMS Olympic
    The original sound of the whistle of the RMS Olympic is probably even sound that the whistle of the RMS Titanic would issue also, knowing that the two were built by the same shipyard.

      I'd rather here the sound coming from the ACTUAL WHISTLE from the TITANIC ITSELF! Not some fake "replica".. To hear it come from something from the ship itself is eerie, but golden at the same time.. how can anyone ask for anything else!! ? Full pressure (or close), if restored right.. could have been put to the real deal.. but either way, like I said.. to hear something that was from the TITANIC is amazing.. and we are to spoiled these days.. we are lucky to get what we get!

      The point is, replicas made of the whistles would allow us to get closer to the sound of the real whistles because no one is going to put 200psi of steam through such an historically important artifact that we're even lucky survived the sinking and subsequent 75 plus years in salt water.

    That's TITANIC's voice. She never got to prove herself to the world or meet her sister BRITANNIC. It's no wonder she sounds so sad. OLYMPIC saw both her sisters die, the merging of Cunard and White Star, and would be the only one who got to see "retirement" (scrapped) in 1935. Really sad she wasn't saved for future generations. Modern day ships just don't have the souls like the classic ones.

    It’s incredible to think they actually got her whistle to work again after 100 years at the bottom of the ocean. It’s quite incredible as well to think it survived in such a good condition, I mean if you think about it it not only survived hitting the ocean when the funnel collapsed into the sea during the sinking it then endured its long journey to the bottom withstanding the waters crushing depths to lay on the bottom waiting to be saved. It’s mind boggling😵‍💫

    There's a video of Olympic arriving in New York for the last time where she blows her whistle. The audio is actually decent quality recorded in the early 1930s. It sounds much different than this due to higher pressure and being steam instead of air. Even though these are actually titanic's whistles, they can't sound to their true voice on air. Olympic's will give you the truest impression of what titanic's sounded like. Look up Olympic arriving in New York

    You know, the stories of hearing dead people talk or ghost whispers are interesting.
    But this, this is truly a spirit's voice. What was once made for warning, still sounded like a beautifully singing ship. That was then lost, but recovered long after its wreck. To hear it sing again is really something different.
    Also, the difference in horn sounds could be caused by how film was captured back then, so the waviness could be a side effect of how sound was captured back then. Since James Cameron's Titanic whistle sounds more similar to the one in this video.

The line at the women's room was so long that moms were bringing their daughters into the men's room when they could not wait any longer. The exhibit was amazing with all the artifacts including the “Big Piece”. The days actively concluded with two 10-second blasts which was the first time that Titanic's whistles were heard publicly in 87 years.

    The Titanic whistles blown here sound nothing like they did in 1912 because they did not use steam at full (200 psi) pressure. The steam expands and its heat affects the sound from the chambers greatly. Listen to the Normandie whistles blown with steam for a more accurate impression. The early audio recordings also fail to do justice in an accurate sound.

    I simply don't understand why the TITANIC's Steam Horns and Steam Whistles were not used on the night of the TITANIC disaster in 1912. It can be heard at least 18 MILES TO THE GROUND. The STEAMER CALIFORNIAN was only 12 miles from the TITANIC. They only tried to send a Morse Distress signal with light signals, which meant nothing due to the COLD air caused by the Labrador current on the clear, calm OCEAN. The stars twinkled as the cold and warm air met and vibrated. This wonderful TITANIC horn sound should have been used as an EMERGENCY SIGNAL because the sound of the R.M.S TITANIC Steam Horn is beautiful, and it could have been heard for MILES as the water also conducts the sound brilliantly.

    If anyone is curious what it would have sounded like on steam, the whistle of the SS Normandie was preserved, and from what I can find is an extremely similar, if not identical model to the one used on the titanic. There's a video on here of it under full steam.

    The only problem is steam ship whistles sound very different blown with compressed air. for example compare how the air blown whistle on the preserved liner Queen Mary sounds to how it sounds in archive footage being blown by steam. So you're not really hearing what the Titanic actually would have sounded like on these air blown tests. I do wish someone could build an exact replica and blow it on steam some day so we could hear Titanic's actual voice.

  • @IIGrayfoxII
    @IIGrayfoxII Před 3 lety

    We dont even need put any compressed air through this thing to find out how it sounded.
    Model it into a computer and then run a simulation.

  • @thatairplaneguy
    @thatairplaneguy Před 3 lety

    I sure wish they’d have used steam. Cold whistles never sound the same and pressure changes this tone as well, not just the volume. So that test sounded almost nothing like it would have in 1912.

  • @m1co294
