  • Learn how to catch trout in this beginner’s guide to fishing. The mayfly is a popular food source for trout and other fish in British Columbia’s lakes. In this video, freshwater fishing expert Brian Chan covers the life cycle of the mayfly and fishing strategies for targeting trout feeding on the mayfly hatch.

Brian shows examples of mayfly flies, the optimal gear set-up, and retrieval techniques. The angler’s goal is to imitate the behaviour of the hatching mayfly so that trout will snap up the fly.

I've been doing more fishing this year than I have for a few years and with the rise of youtube I find myself saying "Brian Chan says" or "Brian Chan does this" about a 100 times a day! I even warned my fishing buddies that I would be invoking his name a lot.

Great video. Very well explained. From experience I believe that those spinners could stay few days (standard is 24 hours) in the trees until the weather right for them to go back to lake to lay eggs. Just an observation from experience.
