  • Xterra Beaver Creek is a race for the mad. Swimming at 7200 feet, climbing dirt roads to 9500 feet on mountain bikes, and running two brutal trail climbs at 8000+, this is easily the hardest course in triathlon.
    I (Eric) finished 7th place and will definitely not be going back next year without an altitude camp or altitude tent ahead of time. This is my recap of the event. www.xterraplanet.com/

    Sometimes we forget that we started in this because it was just "fun". Glad you are having a good time with this Eric!

    You sound so low! Stay positive! You'll be back on the podium soon enough. This style of race makes for cool fresh content! Remember you're more than the sum of your race results!

      I don't want to be rude to such a great guy like Eric and I cheer for him as well, but he should be feeling low with the performances he had lately. He's currently performing at an age group level and for a pro triathlete, unfortunately, results are what counts

    Thanks for taking us on the trip, Eric. You finished and got that valuable experience you were looking for, even if not quite the result you harbored hope for. Keep relishing triathlon for us! Here's to the next one.

    Eric was competitive in this race, finishing with a top ten. Facing a strong field that included Sam Long who has won this year and has had several strong finishes. Little to no altitude training and a lack of course familiarity affected performance as well. Still looks like the bike could stand the most improvement.

    Eric, Man you seemed really down and lacked any confidence. It just seems that you aren't feeling it. Saddens me to see you present that way. It seems to be happening a lot lately ? Smile and have some fun. Onward you roll.

      Thanks man. Definitely feeling off for the last few months.. I still love training, racing is just hard when I feel low on energy and haven’t been able to hit the paces I’m used to. I know it’ll come around though 👍

    I love the look of xterra but we don't get it in Ireland. We do have plenty of adventure racing and it has a similar feel with people who don't take themselves too seriously. Awesome video dude.

    Great work finishing in 7th in a discipline your not comfortable with, man you gotta give yourself some credit.
    I think you need to see a sports psychologist, the fitness/prep/lifestyle is there but sounds like something mentaly is catching you in your last few races.
    Start yoga/meditation with the intention of "letting s###t go"
    YOU ARE DOING AWESOME

    Are you shifting to xterra and away from 70.3?

    • @ThatTriathlonLife
      @ThatTriathlonLife  Před 2 lety +1

      This year it’s definitely more appealing with the massive number of athletes starting 70.3 races and the pervasive drafting problem. Also, the prize purses aren’t as different as they used to be now that Ironman has been cutting back so much. I’ll be doing some Olympic distance racing as well
