- Eugene Belcher is the manifestation of our petulant inner 9-year-old, loudly asserting dominance over dinner and brazenly mashing together every indulgence. Today his B-minus dreams come to life, stacking many carbs upon other carbs to create Baked Potato Lasagna.

Got a little preachy there at the end, but it's not often that lasagna makes me wistful.
Edit: clearly y’all aren’t getting your baked potatoes from Wendy’s 🥔🧀🥦
There isn't a soul on this planet that would judge you for saying we should be more like Gene Belcher.
I can't tell if I just unlocked a fresh Mandela or if that was a callback?? I don't know what is reeeeeeaaalll 🥴
Ngl ya made me tear up there a lil andrew.
I'd love to see you recreate the 7 layer parfait flambé
Gene Belcher is one of the best characters ever created.
I have zero problems saying that.
Gene is simply amazing.
The question: "What is green that commonly goes on loaded baked potatoes?"
Normal people: "Chives and/or scallions?"
Babish: "B R O C C O L I"
especially ironic because i think it would maybe be the biggest betrayal to a child (especially gene belcher) to add broccoli to their special meal 😢
There's a Broly joke here.
Yeah, broccoli cheese baked potatoes are definitely a thing but I wouldn't think of broccoli on a "loaded baked potato."
To be fair, in my area a restaurant has a baked potato bar that offers broccoli cheddar sauce to go on it so I wasn't too shocked here
Also, where did chili come from? Is that part of a loaded baked potato?
Love continuing the trend of doing food from Bob's Burgers that are decidedly not burgers
The odds of them actually making great burgers, feel low compared to the all the creativity they put into the recipes they come up with.
I've not seen that many episodes of Bob's Burgers but I'm impressed as to how much they focus on not burger food
Don't give him any ideas, replacing hash browns with hamburg buns is wrong on many levels 🤨
This is coming from the kid who made a napkin dispenser his personal musical instrument. So his mind works in the ways that only a child can understand.
Right? Its great
Frankly it's more his ADHD than simply just being a child
@@nikeaddict55 There's that too.
@@nikeaddict55that part
@@nikeaddict55 And a bit of artism.
I always appreciate how straightforward he is about things that aren't worth the effort. Just "this was not worth it," and on he goes.
@@thatvalensteingirlor were they just being culturally correct and polite over the gluttonous option 🤔
They said in the episode that is had cheese, bacon, noodles, red sauce, ground beef, chives, sour cream, cinnamon raison bagel and a few baked potatoes
I'm almost certain that he does not watch the majority of shows he makes food from.
They lied ❤
@@cactusjack1527 his main oeuvre is hoity-toity Gordon Ramsay rich-people food and 80s sitcoms, of course he doesn't watch the pleb shows that do anything interesting with cuisine
@@cactusjack1527 He's clearly watched Bob's Burgers before (I don't think someone who hadn't would talk about emulating a character's mindset). I think he's just more interested in making decently edible food instead of putting cinnamon bagels in a lasagne style dish.
@@PTizzleAusGN he used to. No matter how disgusting it was he would always make it exactly as the show described
I don't want to call out a "Botched by Babish" episode, but you forgot the raisin bagel. And I'd assume a handful of candy because they're the Belcher kids.
Also the corn bread crust, they also distinctly say the green is chives.
Tina lists every ingredient when they’re at the table eating. I definitely want a redo.
@@mikeyb3859And I'd assume that it's regular noodles with mashed potatoes as the filling. Probably skin on to simulate a baked potato.
instead of gnocchi-ish lasagna noodles, I would have just sliced the potatoes on a mandolin similar to Potatoes au Gratin.
P.s. nokkies are nothing like lasagna noodles 😛
Yeah idk how that wasn’t the obvious choice or lasagna with layers of mashed potatoes
Those aren’t noodles. It’s lasagna. Words mean things.
I would've thought about that first, too, but then again, sliced potatoes tend to bake pretty unevenly in my experience. Not sure why.
@@chanterelle483 because from skin to skin potatoes are very inconsistent. You can take two slices of potato from right next to each other, visually identical, throw them in oil and they will come out curled slightly different.
Babish thinking the green in a loaded baked potato lasagna is Brocolli makes me think he hasn't had loaded baked potato before lol
Yeah, shouldn't it be green onion or chives?
broccoli in a loaded baked potato is seriously underrated if you haven't gotten to enjoy it.
It’s more common than you think, but not THAT common
I think he might have mixed up loaded baked potato and twice-baked potatoes, which commonly have broccoli, bacon, and cheddar xD
It's a regional thing. they're commonly on loaded baked potatoes in parts of the east coast.
Man, i just made this recipe a couple weeks ago out of curiosity.
Mine was more like a loaded baked potato au gratin.
Layers of thinly sliced potato, left over chili from my last visit to my inlaws in Texas (frozen to keep it fresh), Colby Jack, Cheddar, and Ricotta cheeses, chopped bacon, and i used baby spinach rather than broccoli.
It was actually fantastic, but next time, i think I'll make the Babish verion.
They moved out from Canada, New York, Maine, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, California, New Brunswick, Greece, Germany, Netherlands, Virginia, Alabama and Indiana 🤔 we call them pencil people, you never put in your address book with ink 😉
@@Bear2U Think you might've replied to the wrong comment my friend.
I really appreciate you explaining little things like why you used the butter milk instead of regular in order to get the sour cream tang. I always have those questions and it is super helpful!
Ah, my favorite cuisine: madness!
Madness?
_THIS, IS, SPARTA!_
...I apologize for that.
What is your profession Spartan?@@azazeltheundyingdamienkali5700
Finally, another bobs burgers episode
too bad he did it wrong
You could use those dried potato slices from the boxed au gratin as the lasagna noodles or if your not as lazy as I am fresh potato slices.
No
Such a wholesome ending
That's what she said 😏
Honestly everything lights up when Babish posts a new Bobs Burgers recipe
This episode inspired me to try my own hand at this concept, I attempted to make the lasagna noodles out of a gnocchi dough, add some cheddar cheese to the bechemel that I would normally use for a lasagna and add a bunch of extra chilli spices to the bolognese, wasn’t bad but didn’t give the distinct flavor I was hoping for…. Your version of the recipe was better than mine
Everyone from the Midwest: you mean a casserole?
Thank you
I would have imagined thin mandoline sliced potato layers like a gratin to sub for the noodles (perhaps par cooked so they aren't still crunchy out of the oven). That would, of course, go great with a bechamel lasagna. (Why am I starting to imagine making this sometime soon? :-).
I don't know if I would ever expect bacon, potatoes, chili, and cheese to result in anything other than excellence, but this does look like a great way to combine them. It also seems like the ultimate coup de grâce for leftover chili.
A potato lasagna is how I have described what a moussaka is like
The final product looks utterly amazing, I'm def gonna try it.
As soon as I saw that episode I couldn’t wait to see Babish cover this recipe.
This is binging with babish at its absolute best. Welcome back old friend
i swear i can't watch one video on this channel without leaving hungry!!
Andrew has such amazing skills!!
As another option, you could mandolin the potatos, par boil them, and use those like lasagne noodles. This however requires handling the finger-eater.
I regularly make potato lasagne! Crank out the mandolin on its thinnest setting to make sheets out of potatoes, chilli, cheese and sour cream for white sauce. Sprinkle some chopped up skins on top to get crispy.
Instant win!!
My wife and i made this. We cut potatoes into slices and used them as the noodle. Bacon went heavy in with the ground beef and sauce. Bacon and a scapions ontop. It was wonderful a great recipie from my favorite show.
OK, I think I know what's for dinner tonight. Talk about inspiration striking
Garfield would be proud, until he takes a bite and spits it out.
There's nothing in there he doesn't like. There's no raisins in there
@@shadowednight1600it’s not about liking it, it’s about biting into a lasagna and getting a mouthful of baked potato.
But Garfield eats nearly everything and he eats baked potatoes too@@SeventhGod77
He would simply have this as a side dish to a traditional lasagna.
Yeah, I mean he'd probably like it,
Just not as much as other types of lasagna.
I have been waiting for this ever since that episode dropped!
The first version reminds me of a chili cheese hot dish.
My mother would make it with leftover chili, topped with sour cream and avocado and it made a pretty tasty dinner.
wow. now, THIS ONE took me aback. well done, Chef!
For some reason the combination of your voice and Juparo just hits right into the feels, 2018-2019 watching creme brulee and some hot dog with relish kinds of videos..
anyone else?
That episode was beautiful with or without that whimsical idea ❤
Hey man! Love the channel. I've heard you're going through allot in your life base on an interview you did recently on the last meal show. Just wanted to say, I love these classic style binging with babish videos. It's inspiering and interesting and just weird enough to make me want to try it. Love it! Keep on keeping on. Cheers.
Love your bob burger episodes! More please 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
When that episode came out, I wracked my brain trying to figure out how to make this work. You madlad, you did it.
I honestly have never watched an episode of Bob's Burgers, but you had me hooked at Loaded Baked Potato Lasagna.
I love potatoes and I love to make lasagna so this is gonna be a big treat. I thought I missed an episode from last week and I was a little worried about Andrew. I’m glad he’s back making my fav food. ❤
"Everybody's so creative!" is what I'd summarise that first recipe as.
my first thought was a sort of gratin - that provides a similar thin + layered texture
So much lasagna on the BCU lately, I love it !
My husband and I had a potato pizza while visiting Maine and I think you would love it.
I was waiting for this to come out.
Ooooh make fried chicken with the leftover bacon grease. I do this all the time because I'm southern in my heart. Xoxo love your channel ❤️
Another tuesday and another Lasagna with Babish
Pasta and potatoes may come together as gnocchi, but lasagna is a pasta casserole, and casserole and potatoes come together as pommes gratinées or pommes Anna. Same idea, but instead of making gnocchi lasagna sheets, mandolin some potatoes into paper-thin rounds and arrange them into layers for the lasagna.
Man I was hoping this recipe would end up here! This was one of my favorite episodes of the new seasons, it was so emotional and heartbreaking, and I appreciated the Rudy backstory. 10/10 this is great
Honestly would love to learn more about the recipe development for these types of episodes
Excellent! Could've tried with potatoes on top like a shepherds pie, then topped with dollops of sour cream and chive.
Truly a stoner's dream food at the late hours when most places are closed
I love this episode of BB!
Being Greek i cannot not suggest thinly sliced potatoes on a mandolin and using them instead of the dough (or even alternating if you want to do so). That would give it a clearer potato flavor and even though it would creep upon moussaka territory it would still be a lasagna if nothing else is unchanged. Also, but that is a personal preference, a bit of nutmeg in the bechamel every time makes it pop. All in all i would for sure try myself this "gnocchi" version as it sounds fun! Thanks!
I don’t often “mmmh” at my phone, but this was one of those times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pitch: Dishes from “Blue Eye Samurai”, PLEASE!!
No! This idea is the opposite of yucky! It looks amazing. So be proud of yourself.
Can you make the baked brie en croute with pears also from Bob's Burgers (S11/ Ep7)?
I made a fajita lasagna once, it was amazing.
Honestly it sounds delicious
It never seizes to amaze me how you can take what seems to be a fairly simple recipe and making it as complicated as possible. Amazing work of course
I managed to put lasagna flavors into a baked potato the other day so this was well-timed lol
Having grown up in the Midwest, yes. I'm pretty sure I've eaten something like that and I am oddly hungry now after seeing that.
It's okay chum, I've had broccoli on baked potatoes too, it's one of the best ways to have a "healthy" baked potato
I’m watching this while on a diet I NEEEEED IIIIITT!!!
I would've fused gratinated potatoes with lasagne, using very thin sliced potatoes instead of pasta sheets, or perhaps alternating layers of potatoes and pasta sheets, in between beshamel and bacon-tomato sauce.
That was very quick!
cooling something "just long enough so they still hurt when you peel them by hand without causing any permanent damage" has got to be the wildest benchmark for comparison i've ever heard LOL
didn't expect the encouraging, affirming ending lines, but we appreciate it Babish :')
Now that's a Lasagna with all my favourite foods. Yum ❤
When I saw the episode I knew this would make a great bwb episode
as a midwesterner i can confirm we do have something similar in the form of tater tot caserole, except theres beef instead of broccoli and the sauce is cream of mushroom
Did you see the Blackberry Burger on Bob's Board?
I'm just saying, the chef that pulls that off definitely deserves a,"way to Go Slugger!" and like 50 gold stars.
I knew as soon as Gene described this during this tear-jerker of an episode that Babish would soon follow up with said delicacy.
I enjoy watching you and everyone there recreating dishes the way you all do. Have you seen the movie "Babettes' Feast"? It is a wonderful film, and the meal Babette prepared looks wonderful. It's about more than just her cooking a meal, though. It's about the creative process and the many forms it takes in its' expression.
Wow! Both versions look delicious. True culinary daredevil material.
4:02 same vibes as L4D Coach saying "Barbecue bacon burger"
So a stacked pomme parmentier, nice
Wow!
Tried this free mind thing for delicious results a couple of weeks ago. Peanut butter and grilled chicken sandwich probably needed more than just Peanut butter and chicken.
I've been WAITING for this
Would have liked to see more of a loaded au gratin layered “lasagne”
Idea for a future Basics With Babish, Prawn Cocktail.
Think I might try this but with one change.
Thinly sliced potatoes (not dissimilar to potatoes au gratin) in place of the modified lasagna dough.
Everyone who doesn't feel like making a Gnocchi dough try making Moussaka, just as delicious with less the hassle!
Oh my goodness the lasagna looked amazing, gonna have to go for it one of these days, except for the potato flower part lol
That's potato flour he was talking about. It's flour made by grinding up potatoes. Potato flowers are actually somewhat poisonous and definitely should not be eaten.
Classic binging with babish
Ya boy just put on a master class on how to make a beautiful lasagna
Great video 👍
I want to try this so bad.
So I'm not the only one screaming "THAT'S A HOTDISH!" at my screen today?
Looks so delicious ❤
I dunno what paper you were writing this on, because "baked potato lasagna" sounds _immediately incredible_ to me.
Granted, I _am_ fairly hungry right now, but I'm pretty sure I'd feel this way regardless.
Hi. May you please do a Downton Abbey inspired episode? Lots of options including salty puddings, scandalous exciting cocktails.
Love babish culinary universe
Babish I need a recipe for wedges!! Please!!
epic meal time
Gene the legend!
You heard the comments about you being lazy recently. Nice to see you back in solid form with a killer episode!
Pls don’t block me. I meant this in jest.
5:25 by this time ive headed to Walmart and got a frozen lasagna instead 😂😂🤣🤣🤷🏻♂️
I will continue to politely request foods from the Homestar Runner universe. Forever and ever.
And also foods from A Nero Wolfe Mystery.
