In some ways, states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, TN, and Gujarat bear the burden of lesser developed states like Bihar, Jharkhand etc. But UP has seen a significant growth recently. With economic development of UP, it will share the burden of other less developed states which will eventually reduce dependence on other states. This is good for India.

Also compare literacy rates, HDI, people living below poverty line and other such structural indices b/w northern & southern states. Figures like FDI and GDP are fleeting and say nothing about structural standing of society like income inequality and access to education, healthcare etc.

I am a South Indian .. But i still want to ask one question.. Where exactly does Shabbar Zaidi think are the states of Maharashtra , Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh located and what exactly is their contribution to India’s GDP !!! Maharashtra is No 1, Gujarat is No 3 and Uttar Pradesh is No 4. These are published numbers not something i cooked up. And he argues that it is the South that is driving India and the rest of India is poverty stricken. Does he even look at facts !!! South does well and has done well for decades , but the development of India under Modi ji for the first time in our history is all around. And wait for the election results . You may have a greater surprise than you currently imagine.
if you see per capital GDP UP is behind Pakistan and ranks 32nd among Indians states and territories.
Maharashtra is 13th and Gujarat 10th. So among top 10 only three are northern states and the rest are Southern (except for Sikkim).

The future of Kashmir is already determined and will always be determined by economics and not religion. India has an upper hand right now. Also, no one is bothered what caste Modi belongs to he is universally loved or hated his caste never comes into picture.
Demographics is destiny. Paxtani/Islami mentality understands this better than anybody. Unfortunately, Hindus and Indians still don't understand this basic fact. Economics and Development is not going to do anything other than give the golden goose on a silver platter for jihadis to rule. Looks how Paxtan has forcibly changed demography in POK-- Baltistan and Gilgit has more and more Pakjabi Sunnis, and Pakjabi military runs all the decisions there. POK's Kashmir region/Mirpur was inundated by building two major dams...Mirpuris were given one way ticket to the UK to settle there in the 1960s. POK's Kashmiris don't even speak the Koshur/Kashmiri language anymore-- most of them speak Urdu now, which is Paxtani military's favored national language.
Meanwhile, India (even under BJP/Modi) keeps pumping more and more money into Indian Kashmir, in the name of development. Kashmir gets a vast chunk of the tax revenue, as a ratio-- more money of Indian taxpayers has been spent in Kashmir's development than anywhere else. But Kashmir hasn't been resettled by native Pandits yet. Worse, Islami terrorists continue to target Hindu workers from elsewhere in India who are in Kashmir for work. Worse, Muslim Rohingya colonies have been illegally setup in parts of Jammu-- thereby offending the demography of even the Jammu region. All this happening right under the noses of Hindu Hriday Samrat Modi.

I think Shabbar Zaidi is right on most topics except Kashmir. Raja Hari Singh acceded Kashmir to India because of tribal invasion. And he should read the Junagadh history and he will know that Pakistan regarded the nawab's decision as final but was opposed to the same in Kashmir. And Junagadh was dominated by hindus. J&K has a complex demography where hindus, muslims etc. live in different regions. And most of all, Pakistan has no right to say plebiscite should happen because firstly Pakistan has to vacate their army accoridng to UN resolutions. And we are not able to recolate Kashmiri pandits due to terror attacks by Pak sponsored Terrorists against them whenever they try to settle there. And what kind of logic is this that Hari Singh was a Dogra? Even if he was, it was accepted that ruler will decide and not the inhabitants. Pakistan started the tribal invasion very soon after independence due to which Pakistan weakened its position on Kashmir. Pakistan did not believe in peaceful resolution to Kashmir issue. And the muslims of India now know fully that if they had gone to Pakistan, they would have to stand in lines for basic necessities and are far better off and safer in India than in Pakistan.

The fastest growing state in India is Gujarat at 8 to 10 percent. Kerala is growing at between 4 and 5 %. Haryana, MP and most of Northeast are growing at the same rate as the 4 south Indian states.
