    I installed a 24 gallon auxiliary tank on my 5th Gen 4Runner. A bit pricey, but no fuel containers on the exterior. I did upgrade to the better fuel pump. No complaints at all! I had heard rumors of the fuel pump struggling at higher altitudes. I did not have an issue while my rig was doing the Alpine Loop. I upgraded after I did the Alpine loop.

      Thanks Emanuel - if you don't mine telling me, what fuel pump and how noticeable was the difference?

    • @lemaitrethemonk
      @lemaitrethemonk Před 2 lety +3

      @@OverlandBound I forgot the name of the pump. I got the tank from Long Range America and had it shipped to Duggy's garage in Houston, TX. Duggy's mentioned that they had a upgrade for the pump. They would be able to tell you the name/brand. The pump is quieter and fills the main tank quicker.

      @@jamesfeng7086 I contacted Long Range America and they worked with Duggys garage. I paid 2600.00 for every thing. You can just go directly through Duggys garage, they are a licensed dealer. Another thing to consider. You are going to lose your spare tire on the bottom of your vehicle. I purchased a Rigd tire swing out too.

    LRA is made in Australia and is obviously named Long Range Australia over here. I just had a 160ltr, or as you Yanks would prefer, 42-gallon installed for a total capacity of 67 gal of fuel onboard when full.
    Another fun fact, most Aussie 80 series came standard with a 95 ltr/25 gal main tank and a 55ltr/14.5 gal sub tank fuel system, so installing the LRA setup is a little more straightforward, we have a slightly different fuel filler diversion nozzle and the fuel transfer, fuel gauge systems are fully compatible.
    Happy wheeling my brothers and sisters across the Pacific.

    I had the LRA aux tank installed in my 2020 JLU Rubicon at Summit 4X4 in Prescott. I was their first and since then I understand they’ve installed them in Jt’s and Toyotas. Definitely a game changer. Welcome to the club.

    Did a DIY auxiliary fuel tank on my 78 Datsun truck. This was before pay at the pump was a common thing. Now that I am overloading with my JLU, the Long Range America is on my wish list, after 270 degree awning and RedArc system.

    Do consider upgrading to the "Holly Mighty-Mite hly12-428" fuel pump. A better pump for sure than the original.
    LRA is excellent for resolving warranty issues as well. First hand experience. If you're interested I would be happy
    to share the story. Cheers, Mate

    I've had the LRA tank for over a decade, definitely cuts down on the fillups, but it's definitely a shocker lately, I have the 42 gallon aux tank. so from empty to full in an 80 that cost me 0ver $365 to fill it up. It's not necessarily a cost saver unless I can get fuel at a discount location like a military installation. I don't live near one anymore since retirement so it's regular prices. The added benefits of having fuel when on long trips is amazing though, especially since 80's eat fuel at low speeds when creeping up and down trails.

    Made in Oz?... I had an auxiliary tank in my 80. It gave me a total of 270 litres(around 70US gals, I think) of diesel. I can remember filling up in Darwin and both tanks were all but empty and the poor girl filling up the aux tank was looking under the 80 trying to find where all the diesel was going 😁👍

    Question. Does the car have to be parked to engage the auxiliary tank or will it move the fuel over while the vehicle is driving?
