Thanks mate. My first ever outing was a complete disaster. After 3 casts my reel was so knotted up line wrapped around everything I couldn't continue. Never been taught how to fish so learning by my mistakes. Frustrating. Your videos are a big help.
Hopefully you've stuck with it and discovered the love. 'Would love to hear some success stories now that it's been a while.
For sure a learning experience for people who were never taught, I learned pretty quick on a spinning reel tbh but when I switched to a baitcaster, phew that was a good 12 birdsnests an outing. Always went back to my spinning, but now that i've learned it well, I can't go back to the spinning... Once you learn it well, you'll fall in love my friend. Good luck out there.
Change gear. Go to your local sporting goods store and buy a GOOD LIGHT power rod in 5'6' to 6' length. Pair it with a GOOD size 100 0r 150 reel spooled with GOOD 10lb. braid. Tie on a 1/8 oz in line spinner and learn to cast using one hand. One hand on the rod and one hand on the reel and keep your casts around 50'. Forget this two hand casting crap. You do nothing but over power your lure and destroy any chance you have of making an accurate cast. And keep your elbow close to your body. Pull up a video of a GOOD fly rod fisherman and watch how they cast. Their elbow never leaves their side and you will never see them casting with two hands with the exception of salmon fisherrmen using 10' to 12' spey rods when they are throwing 75-100 feet of line. Let the rod do the casting And FYI good means $100- MINIMUM, except the braid and be sure the braid is 8 strand.
You hit em all perfectly. My grandfather taught me around 4yo to use a spinning rod. He preached closing the bell, spooling the right amount of line, controlling the cast...... in return, I taught him the benefits of Spider Wire braid when it first came out.
How are you getting braid to cast far enough? I can cast well...put braid on and I cast like a toddler. Sucks and I hate it.
idk how since casting braid is easier and better. Perhaps you have braid that is too heavy for the reel/rod. lighter line, regardless and material cast better than heavier line. maybe your line is bottom heavy (meaning more line is collecting at the bottom of the spool), its better for your spool to be top heavy for casting ability.
I wish I had watched a video like this when I first started fishing a spinning reel. The tip about braid is priceless. I use braid to leader on all my spinning combos.
Same, I also use it on all my baitcasters.
Great information, sir! Always helpful. I’ve actually filled my spinning set up with braid after watching your viDebos and it has helped!
This video answered every single frustration I've been having! Thank you!
Love my spinning rigs. I’ll be working on my baitcaster skills this year. When I club fished I was a co-angler and I found my spinning setup allowed me to better fish around the boat owner... he’d be getting dibs on the flipping, pitching, etc. and I’d wind up working the other side with a wacky or Texas rig. It’s all good and I learned years ago to adapt and overcome! Great tips... I love braid😎 but in Florida we mostly tied direct instead of using a leader. Our water is usually dark and we often horse in a two pound bass with four pounds of grass!😀
Hey Brother Feesher guy, I caught my first feesh at age 6. Thank you and R. I. P. to my awesome Father. I’m 61 now and still at it. I just wanted to thank you for these great videos and tell you that I’m still learning and I’ve learned a lot from your heartfelt instruction and your passion for the sport of fishing. Please keep em comin my good neighbor and may God richly bless you! 🙏🏻🎣
I enjoy and appreciate your KISS principle approach to educating folks. Thank you, Mr. Debo. 😁
Helpful as always. Love that you always keep beginners in mind
Great video especially for beginners! I wish I had a video like it to watch 30 years ago! Keep them coming!
Been fishing for over 20 years now, and even these tips were something new that I learned. Thanks for info~
Always appreciate the info I’m learning every time I watch keep up the great work 🔥🎣
Great video man good information for beginners and people that have been fishing for a while then forgot the basics thanks for the reminder.

Spinning info was great. They are part of my arsenal. 🎣
It's always good to hear advice from someone who has screwed up before as I have done
Heck yeah! You know it's going to be a good break when Debo post up a new vid!
I just barely got my ultra-light setup for fishing until the water at my reservoir warms up a bit more. Than I'm going back to my bait caster
Another informative video Debo. Keep up the good work.
As a northern smallmouth guy, spinning reels are a must. Most days you use it more than a baitcaster.
Unfortunately... I usually go out with aspirations of power fishing, and an hour later there I am standing on livescope with the drop shot. I suck.
I rarely bring my baitcaster when I go smallmouth fishing. I love finesse fishing for smallies in rivers!
I live in Texas and I still use a spinning rod a lot
@@simplistix6219 try finesse fishing with a baitcaster, it's dope
@@tommatkevich855 I’ve caught a few bass on tubes while using my baitcasters. I’ll definitely have to try Ned rigs with it this spring.
Great pointers that really will go a long way and help fishing be more enjoyable. Thx Brother Debo
Excellent video!! These are awesome spinning reel tips . 🎣
Great video Debo. Those are really good tips for use of the spinning reel. Love your content man. Thanks. 🎣🤘😷🙏
Great information. I look forward to learning more from you.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. Just ordered the SLX and some spool high speed bearings for other reels thanks to you vids.
Appreciate that a lot man!
Thanks for good beginner tips. I remember when I first got into fishing and struggle with it.
I just began fishing with my 4 yo daughter last week. She had a kids poll and I had one of these and had no idea what the hell I was doing. Thanks for the tips!
Great video and advice !! 😎 Can't wait for an beginner baitcaster video !
Thanks so much! I’m brand new to fishing, and this video definitely helped me.

Great information, to-the-point, great video. Thank you.
Thanks again for another great video Debo!
Thanks for making this video. Well explained, and I NEEDED the tips! 😂
Wow you answered most of the questions I didn’t know how to ask. Thank you, I’ll be picking up some braid and learn how to tie some leaders!
Went fishing at texoma over the weekend and basically made every mistake you just explained. I will definitely be purchasing the correct line in the future. Thank you for the vid bro
Great content. Have done most of these mistakes. Will definitely get into braid.
Very helpful tips, thank you!
Always learning something new , and I’ve been fishing since I was 9
Good tips man!! Keep ‘em coming.
Thanks very informative especially for beginners!
Ahhh thank you brother for this really helped happy new years 🤙🏽🎣
Every tip was super useful
Thx👌👍
Another great video, even for old timers like me.🤙 tight lines debo!
Good advise Debo. Keep them coming
What a great presentation on spinning reels. I am 76 years old and I have fished all my life using a spinning reel. And I still learned a few things. For my 75th birthday I sprang and got a bait caster and I still can’t use it.
Was trying to figure out how this channel hasn't blown up as much as I expected. We all enjoy the insight man, it's useful, good and reinforcing. If I had to guess, it's because there isn't as much actual fishing vids. Gotta get that balance man. Then this channel will be huge huge. Love the content, appreciate the knowledge... now show us more fish!!!
Good point, @Rezyn Rogue.
Great tips. Thank you. Merry Christmas.
This video is great, it will help me a lot when i'm fishing next time, thanks man.
I thought I would always use spinning gear but I recently started with casting and love it. My spinning gear is strictly finesse and light weight. Until I figure out a finesse baitcaster combo that works.
Awesome Debo, as always.
Some great tips there Debo. Great video 👊🏻
Awesome tips video man.
Great video Debo.
Awesome video! Great tips!!!!
Awesome video, as always! I now manually close the bale, take out slack and am starting to feather the spool...all thanks to your expertise! Muchas gracias!
Great information. Fantastic video
Nice video man great stuff!
great tips Debo. I would also add that when you are putting on new line on the spool that you put good tension on it. I've wound new line on my spinning reel semi-loosely and wind knots occurred. I stripped all the line off and relined it but under tension and made a world of difference. It all ties into 1 of your mistakes about reeling in loose line.
Always droppin that knowledge brother!! Good stuff!
Thank you brother man!
Great tips Debo, haven’t heard some of these but now I’ll be trying them... feathering was one of the ones I’d never heard. Who says you can’t teach old dogs new tricks
Awesome content Debo! I’ve been using the tip of pulling slack line from you. Saved so many headaches!
Great tips Debo. I’m gonna have to get on that braid
Great vid. Wife has been struggling with a couple of these issues and I haven't had a good answer other than to hand her my rod and fix hers. I definitely overfilled her spool last time. Sent her a link. Maybe we'll get her on the baitcaster soon.
Great tips video Debo! Feathering a spool never occurred to me. Also need to try some braid on it. Use it exclusively on my frogging rod.
I have literally learned all this through bad experiences, it was a good learning experience for sure
Wonderful video! These are all the issues my wife is having, now you can show her, rather than me. There is a real ,reel, benefit to that. Thanks again!
Good one bro.... Simple and yet Very useful tips. Thanks.
Great video Debo
Just started fishing thanks for the advice.
Good tip on the pulling of the line right after closing the bail manually. I always close the bail with my other hand, but never thought to pull the line.
Liked the vid a lot! I’ve been fishing for a looooong time and never thought about feathering a spinning reel. Gonna have to give it a try for sure. Enjoy your informative videos a bunch👍
Learn to feather the base of the spool also, when fighting a fish. You can fish a light drag, yet maintain control of the fight and pull up a fast running fish that is about to get you into cover or even spool you.
Love your content!!
Your teaching approach and manner is perfect. Thank you.
Appreciate that a lot!
Good tips! Thanks again.
Awesome info thank you
My favorite fishing channel so far. Keep it up man.
This are great tips. It really improved my fishing.
Thankyou - really really good content - learned a lot
good stuff man always learnin here
I like ur attitude bro 👍🏻 always positive but giving correction when need. This is the type of stuff that encourages more people to get into fishing.
Man went out today first time as an adult and setting everything up myself. Lol I def had some issues but these tips should eliminate them for next time! Thanks brotha!
Well spoken as usual Debo ! 🙌🏼
Good tips. Learned some things.
if I have a fishing rod like that, very good and thank you for the information, hopefully useful
Excellent demo!
I don't use a baitcaster for anything. Only spinning reels for everything.
baitcasters will change your life i use to be just like you
Don't worry about it. Fish with what you like and works for you. I love spinning reels too. I have baitcaster and they are great too. I absolutely love to fish with a fly rod too. All is great as long as you're fishing. Tight lines!
@@dinhdynasty853 want to change religion? Try fly fishing for bass.
@@email16v i dont bass fish lol saltwater
I hate the way bait casters feel, I’m all spinners
Not to mention, when you close the bail by reeling it’s SUPER loud haha love your videos man!
Thanks bro...I am a beginner and it’s really helpful...
Good presentation, sir, and not just for beginners.
The one thing your are nit is wordy. You get straight to the point. Thank you. Another great video. Can’t wAit for the weather to get warmer.
Well done Debo 👍 good tips for beginners kids can save a lot of money 💰
Very useful. Thanks
Excellent tutorial! 💪
Trout fishing on the White River, spinning is king. Going to braid and leader this year. Thanks for the info !
Thank you for your points !😇
I am making every mistake you listed. This fishing game is hard work… made a lot easier by your tips.
When I was four years old my Dad taught me how to fish. I used my Maternal Grandfathers rod and reel. Grandpa was a union activist in the 40's & 50's at the northern pulp & paper mills of Thunder Bay (then, Port Arthur). His idea of a family vacation was to drive the family in a black Ford down a logging road. Turn at the first available field. And keep going. One time he strapped a raft together to float the car across a river.
My Grandfather taught my Dad how to fish. I like spending time with the men in my family.
I bought my fishing license yesterday. I got my second vaccine today. In two weeks I'm fishing the Ottawa behind Parliament Hill.
Cheers. Great video. Thanks.

New at spinning reels. I have bait casted fo a bunch of years but getting a new spinner next week. Good info for me. Now to learn to cast the darn thing lol. Havagudun Debo.
You definitely know your stuff about fishing. Thanks for the tips.
