Love the eye-rolling by Wyman and Jagger:))
Of the two Wyman seems genuinely pissed off.
Mick uses the situation to his advantage it seems.
I read, or saw in an interview, that Jagger had to change the lyric. He didn't like it, that's why he rolled his eyes. If you blink, you'd miss it.
@davidjensen4702 Sullivan told Mick Jagger that either the song was changed or the Stones weren't performing. "Either the song goes or you go" is what Sullivan actually told him
I love how Brian doesn’t even care about the change he just grooves out.
Musicians just want to play. Their priority is the music.
Let's spend some time 🙄 togheter
Censurated..
"I'm off my head and my mouth's getting dry
I'm high"
I'm surprised that one got through the censors
or "i will satisfy your every need and i know you will satisfy me" or "we could have fun just fooling around". you know a song is good when the censors don't know what to censor!
Mick's rolling eyes are hilarious :)
He was sure ticked off at Ed haha
Hilarious and smart.
Image-building on the back of censorship.
The whole thing is fabulously swish.
Anybody would be if you had to censor yourself.
..as well as those of the usually-deadpan Bill
Mick makes his exasperation perfectly clear! 🙄
@2:50 Mick accidently says the word night which causes him to slightly stumble, but makes total sense as he's used to singing spend the night together.
Jim Morrison: Hold my beer......
0:32 - RIP Charlie Watts...
2:46 for Mick Jagger's infamous eye-roll
Now see? Those are some really nice lyrics that the whole family can enjoy. :-)
Let spend the night together sounds better haha
The reason they did it was because Ed Sullivan didn't want them singing "Let's Spend The Night Together" on his show and made them change it.
The performance that got The Rolling Stones banned from the Ed Sullivan show...😉
@@darrendaigrepont5869 yeah .. it ruined their career .. oh wait.
I think he "gets" it people, lol...
Mark Hamill & The Rolling Stones
I love how the Sullivan show kicked up a fuss about the lyrics when Mick is dressed up like a West End hairdresser prancing around the stage and rolling his eyes so you just know what he's getting at.
It's really funny how for back in the sixties, saying "Let's Spend The Night Together" was a serious no-no for national television whereas by today's standards you have all sorts of blatantly nasty talk and strongly suggestive dialogue in television shows! This live performance was still really good even though they were required to say "Let's Spend Some Time Together" instead.
The Rolling Stones are legendary superstars!!

in america, people reproduce through pollen flight
When The Doors appeared on Sullivan the show asked them to change the lyrics in Light My Fire. The lyric "Girl we couldn't get much higher" was too much of a drug reference for the show's family audience. Jim Morrison sang the lyric unaltered; and The Doors were banned from the show forever after.
@@billmccomb4629 I was already aware of that. I've watched that live clip on CZcams before and I actually heard somewhere that after The Doors were thrown out of the building, one of Ed Sullivan's associates told The Doors they were never going on The Ed Sullivan Show again. Then Jim Morrison supposedly remarked "We just did the Ed Sullivan Show." Kind of like his way of saying "Who cares?" Jim Morrison was a real rebel!
~Dutch
The original "Been there done that". Cool. @@lustforkicks7392
@@lustforkicks7392 However, it did NOT happen as dramatically as the Oliver Stone movie with Val Kilmer makes it out to be. Dramatic license.
No one could gyrate and eye roll at same time better than Mick
Oh Charlie!
But think of the precious minds of America’s delicate youth that were spared that horrible obscene line.
Yeah! "I will satisfy your every need and now I know you will satisfy me" is just fine, it's probably about shopping. But "spend the night"? That's a no no.
Aww, the baby Mick.
I have wondered if this would ever be available anywhere. In 1967 when the original show was broadcast, I just happened to record the audio with a reel-to-reel tape recorder I had hooked up to the TV.
Ha Ha Jagger looks PISSED!
Well, he was...
0:51 brain doesn’t seem to mind the change
The multi-instrumentalist brian jones
Nice
Actual title of song is "Let's Spend the Night Together" but "the Night" implied sleeping together so they had to change it for the show. Notice how Jaggar rolled his eyes when he sang that part.
I saw that too, when he sang the chorus. You can tell just from the eye roll that Jagger didn't Iike it. Either way, it sounded good, even if the lyric was changed
@David Jensen yes he put a lot of energy into the performance and the band performed well. Gotta love Mick's stylish haircut and clothes to. Lol.
It's weird Ed Sullivan didn't object to the lyric "I'll satisfy your every need".
@@hapgood22only during the day though. Lol.
Mick prancing about the stage like he's the Queen of Sheba.
Haha, what's new!
Had they sang the original lyrics, it would have been their last performance on The Sullivan Show, Later that year, when Jim Morrison refused to change, 'Girl we couldn't get much Higher' it was one and done for The Doors.
They told them after that "You'll never play here again!"
Jim and the boys just said "Well, we just DID your show, so." 😂
the 1960s, so much was censored.. How times changed by the early 1970s.
I want the 50s and the early 60s back, please!!! LOL!!!

Question: At 2:07, does Mick actually sing, spend the night together, versus spend some time together?
As others have said below, the eyerolls are priceless.
He says ‘spend some time’, he just enunciates it a bit strangely
Heard about this when it happened, probably watched it when it aired. Never picked up on the eye rolls!
That Radio Station in Raleigh played it yesterday and mentioned it so of course I went down that rabbit hole!!
現代の技術すごいな。これ1960年代だで

Wow, i been a big fan of the stones for many years and i only ever heard the version lets spend the night together, hadn't heard this version lets spend some time together. Thnks for sharing.
Never seen Mick with short hair--OMFG!!
they changed the lyrics to please the hypocrites . LETS SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER, and thats what it means
The classic eye roll from Mick. The hypocrisy and double standards from the US that time is staggering. The Stones performed this on *"Top Of The Pops"* the same year with the original lyrics and length of the song intact.
Pretty sure Ed Sullivan was just a controlling egomaniacal jerk. He did crap like this to a few artists…The Doors, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley, Mamas and the Papas
@@Supermanfan99 Surprised I saw the uncut version on the BBC. Us Brits that time were stiff, conservative types. I think the lyrics went over the producers' heads.
Where's the hypocrisy and double standard? They just didn't want certain lyrics on TV. Were equally strict about violence & sex back then too.
"In 1967 the Rolling Stones returned to the Ed Sullivan Show to do their new songs Ruby Tuesday and Let's Spend the Night Together. No longer were they brooding, dark-suited Edwardians--here were some postnuclear medieval polysexual minstrels. Brian Jones wore a pillbox hat on his enormous blond bouffant that changed America. I had a friend whose father kicked in the television set and then burned all of the kids' records after this performance. Beyond the future valley of rock video, Brian Jones's fashion look flipped hormonal synaptic switches into an AC/DC mode throughout North America. Almost enough for the Lifetime Achievement Award already."--From SPIN Magazine, May 1986
They weren't allowed to say LETS SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER LOL.RD Sullivan was like nope.lol
I like this, it changes the song up a bit and Sir Mick can't be accused of lip synching this song either.
Mick wasn't at a loss for words at 1:47. I think the backing vocals were to fill the void.
Let's Spend the TIME Togheter
2:36 ....nope, Keith
Mick messed up the lyrics first!
@@dummytree yeah but he started to sing it the way the song was SUPPOSED to be sung
I love micks danceing.
Without Eddie Cochran Little Richard Chuck Berry James Brown...these guys would not have existed
If you listen closely you can hear the "brass" section which consists of girls intermediately screaming through out the whole song.
Когда их было пять это был шедевр
Si Ed Sullivan hubiera conocido el reguetón, no habría censurado ni a los Doors ni a los Stones.
Ed sullivan was a square.
No other rockstar danced around like jagger! People forget that in this time he was seen as the devil
While the Beatles were a pop group figuring out how to be a rock band, the Stones were already streets ahead of them.
For you to say that means you don't know the Beatles and even so you keep getting into these silly discussions
The Rolling Stones, as great as they are, were upper class boys pretending to be "street." The Beatles were all blue collar, and from one of the roughest neighborhoods. Their family image only came later. They were tough as nails in Hamburg. And got into fights frequently.
The Beatles were a rock group. this is well documented, you're just a dick.
My parents had a sh*t when they saw this on TV.
1. 0:52 Mick to Audience - "OK People, 'Collective Eye-Rolling Time' starts NOW !"
2. They had to change it, cause "Let's Spend The 'NIGHT' Together" was deemed "Too NASTY" 😄- Haw !
3. "Lord- forbid us from getting any hints on how we were all Conceived back then !"
4. In the Stone's documentary (25×5)- during one performance the producers dubbed in a "Wash-Machine type" sound effect over the "Naughty-Word". Ridiculous.
5. So Much for "Girl's Slumber-Parties", etc.
Laugh at it if you want.
These days in this ultra-PC climate a band like how the Stones were back in the day probably would be villified by social media.
Ed Sullivan was a big prude weeny. The Jackie Mason finger incident, Elvis being filmed from the waist up, and this.
You missed a big one Jim Morrison was told to change the lyrics of light my fire. They told him to change the line from girl we couldn’t get much higher to girl we couldn’t get much better. He just sang the original lyrics anyway and got kicked off the show
He also cut off Buddy Holly’s guitar during “Oh Boy.” He forced The Mamas and The Papas to lip sync (that one’s pretty funny because Michelle is eating a banana during the performance in protest and at one point sets down the mic and is singing into the banana). He also banned Bo Diddley for not playing the song he wanted.
Not a history to be proud of, in rock ‘n roll terms.
What always kills me is that Sullivan invited groups like this to the stage.
Then has them censor themselves.
Like... What.
Clearly he himself and his crew didn't listen to the whole album.
The Doors come to mind also. 😂
夜を一緒に過ごすを時を一緒に過ごすという意味では歌いづらいだろうな、だからミックは目玉をグルッと回すんだろう❗
in america, people reproduce through pollen flight
Jim Morrison didn’t change the ‘girl we couldn’t get much higher’ lyric for Ed Sullivan & got banned from any future appearances on the show, so I’m quite surprised the Stones agreed to Sullivan’s demand - after all… I thought they were meant to be the original ‘bad boys of pop?!’
(lol) The bad boys of Rock n' Roll - compromised. With Jagger looking like he ingested a boatload of speed and rolling his eyes at the altered lyric and the whole band looking awkward this is one of the funniest performances ever.
Makes one appreciate and admire Jim Morrison more.
One thing I never quite got was, the Stones had fifty hit songs, by this point. Why didn't they just perform something else? I think they liked the publicity. And why were they able to say "I'll satisfy your every need and I know you'll satisfy me?" Mick seemed to deliberately sing that line twice, even though that's not how it was in the original song.
maybe
Well, they were probably promoting their then-current single. Ofcourse the censorship and Mick’s way of handling wasn’t gonna hurt the popularity.
Ed Sullivan: you're not playing my show ever again.
fast fwd to '69... Stones perform three from Let it Bleed on the Ed Sullivan Show.
Wasn't that Jim Morrison he said that to? Ed wanted to censor him, too, but it didn't work...lol. All Jim said was "higher" (eye rolls, everybody)
According to the movie, he was asked to sing: "Girl, we couldn't get much better." Jim sang the offensive word anyways.
In the movie, it's done like he was trying to offend Ed and the crew! If you watch the actual performance, he sings it just the way he sung it on the record.
@@williamlangan5902 I didn't know that. I never saw the movie
@@annemarie7254 Mick's own eye roll was meant to be overt sarcasm and Stones were told they wouldn't play ES again. Now the Doors were expressly warned not to use that word, he did and then the producer back in dressing room and good to his word said they'd never play again to which Morrison jeered we just did, man.
@@plasteredbastard I didn't know The Stones were told they wouldn't play ES again...was that because of Mick's sarcasm? I do know that Jim said "we just did"
In hindsight, given that Bill Wyman was in a room full of teenagers, maybe changing the lyrics wasn't the worst idea in the world.
..and this was 4 years before his next wife was even born
It was just one girl, didn't even survive for about a year
Ed tried to censor the Doors a year later. #biteMyWire
I guess this is all live, no recorded tracks? But the instruments are really mixed too low.
i swear some of the times hes saying "Lets spend some Night together" because he forgot or maybe i cant hear because of the girls- why are those gi😆rls yelling like that anyways?
Их успех никто не повторит никогда

Richard's shouting "don't let me down?" 🤔
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 LOL
He messed up the very first line, 'well don't you worry 'bout what on your mind...oh yeah'
hahahahahahahahhah
Obvious Ed Sullivan did not listen any further than the title, otherwise they would not be allowed to play this song at all!

is this show when they returned to the stage, they were dressed in Nazi uniforms with swastikas and ed sullivan kick them off?
Yet another example of The Stones copying The Beatles. Notice the rare images of shorter, mod style hair and fringes on the Stones. The fact this was filmed mid-January 1967 makes sense. The Beatles, seen going into the Abbey Rd studios in December 66, all looked a little different with shorter hair too (plus the Sgt Pepper era mustaches of course). Maybe that was one step too far for Mick to copy, who knows. Keith did look ultra cool here though it must be said (before the drugs started to take their toll).
Should of done it the doors wayyyy
Sorry, but I feel that they weren't happy performing this.
I'm a Stones fan but, wow, this is like a cheesy wedding band.
I miss when we had censors and decency in American entertainment and in society in general the Super Bowl show with gangsters grabbing their crotches was disgraceful I can’t believe how far we fallen - I long for a time machine to take me back to the days when decency was away a life in entertainment and it mattered.
IMO it was so much better when there were strict censors, and everybody was trying to slip things past it. Nowadays just about everything flies. There's no challenge anymore. People can just be vulgar and indecent and it just degrades society further.
Keith always looked and sounded terrible
Sounds terrible, terribly mixed, not the best vocals by Mick or Keith. C'mon guys.
