Bumped into Joe unexpectedly at a Sarries v Quins game a few years ago at Wembley. Had a chat with him whilst he was getting some sweets for his eldest son... have been a huge fan of his ever since... what a true gentleman & one of the nicest players I have the pleasure in meeting. I walked away with the feeling that he was more honoured to meet me than the other way round!

I love this video and the awareness of mental health you're raising. It's very hard to open up and not feel stupid so I respect this chat a lot. We must now look at helping people who talk, being there for them good and bad days, trying to make bad days a little more manageable etc that's when you really open up, when you know someone is genuinely interested in helping you. Let's not forget the after support, it's equally important.

Fair play Joe. I wish you the best, and I hope that time, patience, honesty and love win through in the end. Under-lying issues that take a long time to reveal themselves, may require some time to 're-balance'. Least is most Joe. Don't try too hard, just let love be the boss. You are a good man, with a big-heart. It's the little things that 'kill'. Deal with the little things, and the bigger issues will look after themseves most often than not. Take care big man.

Thank you for this lads for broadcasting the message. Love ya.

it is such a shame that Jo felt he didn't know who to go and talk to and share his problems with. And therein lays the problem with mental health issues, especially among men. Despite all the talk, it is STILL not something people feel ok to talk about and can easily find support on. But there again, if he couldn'y confide in his wife/mates, it wouldn't really have mattered what support was available - you can lead a horse to water... Wish him the very best

  • @Goldih

Super interesting and good to hear people opening up.
Armchair psychologist moment.. but worth reading about 'Mask Smile Syndrome', 'False Positivity' and consequently 'Emotional Leakage'. Ironically suppressing feelings by trying to be positive and happy causes those negative feelings to come back two-fold.
Why does it happen? Chronic highlights culture through social media and TV causes you to think "They're happy, why aren't I?" - Ironically they aren't.
Jim Carrey & Robin Williams - both their childhoods were based around entertaining their parents by forcing themselves to be happy to make their parents happy. Nice sentiment but they both have struggled unequivocally.
