      Yup. After a certain wind speed it just seems to come from above and flattens you. But I haven’t tried new equipment.
      He’s using a pretty big sail too.
      If the sail is too small then the front of your board just flys up.
      55mph steady is doable though. Gotta be strong enough to stick with it. I’d be scared to fly off into the dirt here. !

    Quel monstre!

      Cool, my record is 65 km/hr. in 12-14 meter pr. second wind speed with a custom pin tail board. I would have done faster with shorter double fins at rear end, instead of a single fin. The board tend to slide a little at high speed. 2 fins make it more steady.

    There's a wonderful experience of wiping out at speed, when you bounce and skid along the water for a while before decelerating into it.
    At 100 kph, though, eyewear is necessary to prevent the inevitable eyepouching of water from ripping out a lower lid.
    I've only experienced the packing and stretching at lower speeds a number of times, later worrying about bacteria finding my eye socket a warm and hospitable nest.
    As many of you know, facial sanding tends to occur when ambient wind rises. At 25 knots it's mostly only knee height, but increases until painful at head level.
    Other amusements occur, spray itself becomes painful.
    Naked windsurfers, be warned.

  • @danielschulmann539
    @danielschulmann539 Před rokem +2

    Maybe a stupid question. At this speed, does one steer these boards also with feet and body weight or this this done alone with the sail?

    • @surfertoday
      @surfertoday  Před rokem +1

      It’s actually a very good question. You could say it’s a bit of everything simultaneously. Your feet and body weight will compensate excess sail steering and vice versa. Remember at this speed every subtle move is relevant and changes everything.

      Yes, I notice that too. He/they must had multiple setups to try that day. Most people have no idea how terrifying it is to go at that speed, hooked in on such shallow water. I notice how he hug so close the the lee side that has the least ripples. A bad move will mean bad spill and break a few bones.
      Would be so nice if they include the peak, and average wind speed of the day. The web says the wind average 35 knots+ at least 3 times a week during the event period.
