Mike looks like he was drawn in a comic book. The definition in his muscle was unreal.

Only bodybuilder I have evr seen running that much
A tragically often forgotten and overlooked legend.
Absolutely, got his book and make my best effort to train with intensity in my 40s.
Overlooked because he wasn’t a good bodybuilder. A junkie who was a has been that never was.
@@markhayden886 lmao OK, hater.
His proportions and easthetics were among the best of his time.
Drug use of any kind, prescription or not, has no importance in judging his quality as a bodybuilder, only his results do.
@@matthew4712 Nope. He had a shallow chest, gut stuck out, undeveloped back, narrow clavicles, wide waist, no traps, poor leg development.
@@markhayden886 you have a right to your wrong opinion.
Never heard anyone in my life speak so eloquently, let alone any bodybuilder. When he spoke, it was like poetry.
''I know that you want big muscles, but if you look deep down inside of yourself, what you're looking for at bottom is the purpose of all goal achievements, a set of mastery, ethic, self esteem, to achieve a certain type of happiness that can only be had as a result of achieving goals. If you don't work on developing these aspects along with your muscles, then you're just gonna end up with a set of muscles and be like the rest. Get that sense of mastery, Become the best version of yourself.'' -Mike Mentzer
🔥🔥🔥
Mentzer was a Myth!
💪👏👏
Lol Metzer was a drug addled drug addicted tart. He achieved nothing in bodybuilding. I was at the opera house in 1980 Arnold won. All Metzers dominant poses were the bicep dominant poses and he was against Arnold 😂😂😂 ffs few grainy side by side relaxed and everyone gets excited. Arnold’s whole upper body destroyed him.
tnx
Best physique ever. Rest in peace mike, you were the best at what you did.
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines Do you like your own comments?
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines You crazy as hell 😂
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines Whats a hitter i'm confused?
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines Mike Mentzer was a Decepticon
Fact bro
His 1980 crusifix pose is something that in my mind will forever be the first image when I think of bodybuilding.
For real.. an absolute piece of art
Of all of the Olympia competitors through out history, Mike and Serge Nubret have been the only two to make it to my wall. Mike's approach of working the mind first to then master the muscle had such an impact on me. I cannot express how happy it is to see him highlighted in one your videos.
Same for me bro. Serge Nubret was one of the best BodyBuilders in History acc to me. He deserved to win, Man had crazy conditioning, ab seperations 🤯Nobody even looked like him. Again the competition was just unfair. He had his best form in the 1975 Mr Olympia.
@@161eshaan8
Just to add, his back genetics were also insane. He had a crazy V taper. And yeah, spot on. That 1975 top 3 were so nuts. Him, Schwarzenegger, and Ferrigno. I believe Nubret should have won it, but looking at the photos now, its close.
if you like surge u are a b**tch
One of the greatest bodybuilders ever, 100x a nicera guy than..( I love myself) Arnold
I knew him quite well when he worked/trained at the spartan health club in maryland. I first saw him when i decided to join that gym in the summer of 74. His routine at that time was 2 to 3 sets per body part till absolute failure with forced reps at the end. That equated to about
3 hrs a week..Mike was a brilliant guy and a non conventional thinker..His workout philosophy was absolutely revolutionary at the time and was based on arthur Jones ideas of building muscle hypertrophy.. As evidenced by his huge size and how quickly he grew, his theories proved correct. Mike was a down to earth guy and very approachable to even the most basic body building novice..In retrospect I feel fortunate to have known him..
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines
I'm not sure where u got your info, however I watched a 22/23year old mentzer fresh out of the air force develop a world class physique on 3 workouts a week.. That was my point. Was he using steroids? Of course. Was he genetically gifted? yes. In point of fact he never denied steriod use to me and discouraged me from using them. I can't speak to what his routine was later on when he moved to California in the later 70's I am guessing he and ray probably modified it somewhat..
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines
So in short you never knew him. Never spoke with him. Never watched him develop his physique over a period of 3 yrs.. I did..you've made your mind up by others opinions.. yes he tried other routines early in his career, that doesn't negate the fact that he won Mr america and universe employing the methods I described..
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines
I knew him and that is a fact..
1. I met him in 1974 at the spartan health club in Marlow hgts md where he worked.
2. He first trained me and alot of others starting out.
He wasnt a good friend but l knew him and his girlfriend Cathy gelfo pretty well..
3. I saw with my own eyes what his workout routine was and it was exactly as I have stated..
5. Lastly he was very intelligent, and generous to the new guys.Talking to him sometimes was like getting a college lecture in physiology..
I regret that you don't believe me, but i have no control over that.
Don't worry you'll see this old skool guy under every H.I.T related video trying to defame intensity workout.
Wow, how lucky you are to have known him. Thank you for this comment.
I'm glad the video came back, I thought it would be deleted forever
I was so sad bro 😂
A legend that should never be forgotten in the history of bodybuilding, great mike mentzer 💪
Been waiting for a Mentzer montage ! This is amazing ! He’s so overlooked and people don’t realize how much knowledge this man had !

I do, each man who have read his books a little know how smart he was..

@@Troy_Hutchinson Oh yes, he and Arthur Jones were the pioneers of training methods with intellect. After Mentzer thoughts nothing could have been the same in training.

@@oldskoolbodybuildingroutin7178 Funny to see this coming from someone who hasn't been on the Mr Olympia stage
@@m31steri60 Where are all the HITters on the Olympia stage?
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines They don't even lift. Slow crap.
Mentzer was the man in my opinion. I started body building in 1976, went on to try various routines, read Arnold’s book and routines. It wasn’t until I came across HIT routines that I really grew. So much so, my skin could not keep up and even today I gave the skin ‘stretches’’ to this day. So tragic for him and his brother to leave us so soon. Will always be my man.
This guy was a big bodybuilder. His death and the death of his brother was a pity. I learned and I always will learn with the golden era.
Mike's philosophy has greatly influenced my life. He was such an amazing man and one of the best looking bodybuilders of all time. This is one intense edit, thanks for always putting out such quality videos.

Im 61 when i was younger ,i idolized this man ,,,and probably still do...
I keep looking at Mentzer's forearms. At times they look as big as his upper arms for crying out loud. And his upper arms were big too. He looks great in this video. Thanks for uploading.
When I was smaller I admired Arnold, but now .....I admire this Legend 🙏🏻.
The Mentzer brothers where old school class. R.I.P Brothers.
Mike Mentzer, one of the greatest bodybuilders ever. His old school, brutal, unorthodox training led many to success, including Dorian Yates. Wish he got crowned the Mr.O, but nonetheless a legendary bodybuilder and thinker!
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines he adapted Mentzer's methods and credited him as the primary inspiration for his approach
"..Mike put out these courses which were called Heavy Duty. That was the initial information I got, so I blended the Heavy Duty philosophy with some conventional bodybuilding (to introduce more exercises than 1 per body part). That's how I got to know Mike Mentzer and I was a big fan of his"
czcams.com/video/IN4isF-xXVQ/video.html
"Mike suggested I reduce my 2 working sets per body part to 1 set, so that's what I did starting in 1992 and I did improve during those years"
Yeah I'll take Dorian Yates's own words over yours nice try though
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines i just posted an interview with Dorian where he explicitly says Heavy Duty formed the foundation of his approach and he ended up going to 1 set per body part based on Mike's advice
Your confirmation bias is massive. You probably didn't even open it or read my direct quotes from him. Typical
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines OP said Mentzer's approach led to many successes including Yates. In that interview Yates says exactly that - that he was inspired by Mike initially, then used his approach as a foundation. And you come in from the side making irrelevant arguments like "Yates didn't use 100% of Mentzer's appraoch".. yeah no shit OP never said that
Many of the videos were with Ray Mentzer, it might be hard to see but they looked exactly the same at the time. Especially with their iconic mustaches.
I'm sure you made Mike's friend John Little happy with this montage.
Greetings from Sweden :)
*@Mangenusson* Yes, i had noticed that as well. Although 'personally' i don't really happen to think They actually looked quite *"exactly* the same" but, certainly a great fraternal resemblance. Should Mentzer have won the 1980 Mr. Olympia? (5:58)
''Interesting the only people who saw Arnold as the winner were the 7 judges and his closest friends.'' -Mentzer
Of course, Arnold didn't deserve that win. Mentzer was robbed 🤨
Its obvious to anyone with eyes Arnold was not in his best condition mike by no means should have placed 5th, Arnold had just got done doing a bunch of movies and was popular.
Arnold is not in his best condition, however, he is still better than the rest, and yes he deserves to win
Mike had that fat roid gut which got him the place he got. Arnold a bit off and still looked better than everyone and still deserved that O.
no,he hardly qualifies as bodybuilder.no delts,no back,mediocre arms,thin legs,where is mr olympia quality?

MIKE MENTZER was a phenomenal Bodybuilder, and an outstandingly intelligent Human Being. And, with that said, he also maintained a certain kind of humbleness that was amazing to witness. He would take the time to chat a bit with even the most novice beginner Bodybuilder. He was very kind and very approachable. I was sincerely saddened and totally shocked when we lost this amazing man. Allow me to also mention Mike's brother, Ray. Ray was an impressive Top Tier Bodybuilder in his own right. He was a great assist to Mike. Mike developed a highly effective training method. He also opened up the door to the ancient Greek philosophy of Logic, and other great philosophies to many in the Bodybuilding Community. He showed us how exciting philosophy can be, and how we can live better lives through understanding the great philosophers. Mike was an authentic Intellectual and shared his wealth of knowledge with All of us. Mike Mentzer is truly the,

The best motivation videos ever 🔥🔥🔥 Nicandro Vision bringing the heat
Long lasting and SINCERE gratitude Sir for presenting a long over due video about this man.
Mike Mentzer (RIP) was an extraordinary giant of a competitor who contributed significantly to the bodybuilding culture and its evolution. Mike like the Incredible Serge Nubret are the 2 most important figures from that era because of their differing philosophies on weightlifting and the outstanding results that came from those philosophies. Mentzer had an EXCELLENT Physique that exuded granite strength and power. I personally preferred his physique far more than the Mainstream promoted proganda machine that supported Schwarzenegger. Nubret and Mentzer both suffered under the machinations of the corrupted Weider empire that Catered entirely to Making The structurally flawed Schwarzenegger the poster boy for their companies survival and the flagship model for Weider industries and bodybuilding as a whole.
Again thank you for this Sir 👍
You know it’s a good day when they post 🔥💪
Mike had the greatest physique in bodybuilding in my humble opinion. He wasn’t overly large or ripped compared to other competitors but his proportions and symmetry were refined to perfection and every part of his body was developed to a very high level which IMO is what the sport is truly about.
Hi , I hope you are having a good day, im 42 and i was training full body workout 3 days per week, yesterday I started this training, and oh man,the intensity of this workout is great, did the day 1 in 25 minutes and felt like i went for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Which Mentzer program works better, full body workout for 3 times a week or half body on Monday and Wednesday and the other half on Tuesday and Friday?
This is so motivational. Going to listen to this during my workouts.
Beautiful words spoken by one of the philosophers of the sport! I urge everyone to get a hold of his book “Heavy Duty”. Thanks for the video! Respect💪🏼

У Ментцера была красивая генетика. После несправедливого судейства, где отдали 1-е место Арнольду, если бы он не разочаровался и не бросил выступать, а дальше шел к цели, то непременно взял бы Олимпию. Он этого заслуживал.

@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines troll. I bet your 5'2" 121 and soft pale white. Probably not even an adult, so bye
@Old Skool Bodybuilding Routines been through this before. Don't give 2 shits what you believe.
Mentzer is the man who inspired Dorian Yates to train like he did🔥
What's your opinion on High-Intensity Training? Did you try it?
I did HIT for 3 years. Complete waste of time. Mentzer built his size with high volume originally. Conman.
As with ALL training, it's about putting in 100% effort, not just with training, but nutrition, and recovery.
I think it's been written that Mike Mentzer initially training using more common method, higher volume, lighter weights, before being introduced to Arthur Jones and the 'HIT ' method of training.
It's also been said that Dorian also trained with higher volume before using 'HIT ' methods.
Neither way is right or wrong, it's upto the individual to find what works for them.
In my 39 years of training experience, BOTH methods have their pros and cons, and one shouldn't rely on either for prolonged periods of time. 🙏
@@dtm4071 Mentzer very clearly improved and brought great results for his clients with HIT.
Maybe it didn't work for you, maybe you didn't apply it correctly, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.
I'm not convinced it's the best method for everyone to gain size and strength, but it certainly worked better than high volume for me.
While his training advice is excellent, I do disagree with him strongly on diet.
@@matthew4712 Where are the big HITters? The naturals who train this way don't get big and then blame their 'genetics' because HIT guru's tell them that's the reason why. The real reason is it doesn't work for maximum size.
