Gloc 9 didn’t make this song for himself he actually made this song for all the gays in the Philippines because being a gay person in a Filipino family is a form of disgrace in the eyes of the father. Gloc 9 is standing up for all the gays in the Philippines
The dad found out his son is gay, and he literally hates it because for him Gay is worthless. But when the dad grows older... The strong and his muscular body is gone and he can't even barely walk and talk, but his son took care of him and loved him even he hates it. Then one day he called his son and apologized for all his mistakes back in the days, because he realized that gays is human too and sometime the gay is more manful than the real man.

Tagalog words are very emotional, we can't convert it in english with the same emotion filled with it because theres no definite translation, english are more professional language.
Example - i love you, in the philippines theres a lot of translation to this and every translation has its own depth (iniibig kita, iniirog kita, sinisinta kita, minamahal kita, mahal kita and alot more)
Thats probably because you need to increase your english vocabulary
Iniibig kita = I long for/dream of/love you
Iniirog kita = I hold you dearly
Sinisinta kita = I'm courting/pursuing you
Minamahal/Mahal kita = loving you
And there are many other terms for love. Yearn, infatuated, besotted, smitten, passion, fondness, tenderness, etc.
There would definitely be a barrier in translating (because we need to use more than one word to describe it extensively). But it goes both ways.
It's actually my first time seeing the MV for "Sirena". I love how they've shown some of the successful gay people at the end.
This song has a deep meaning... a song of reality... abuse, injustice.... and acceptance...
There were a time that gays are a shame to dads who are known brave men in the hood. I think 70-80's era they are not yet that accepted here. Gay is like to them a shame a evidence of weakness but in the end the gay who his father was angry took care of him when he was sick and his other children didnt even look back on him. He felt a shame by his being judgemental and was open that it is not man or woman is the thing but the character, attitude. The song empresses whoever you are its not your normal its about what you do in life makes you normal
nowadays.. Gloc9 is writting songs with deep meanings... not just some ordinary rap songs but songs that have deep impacts on whatever subject he is pertaining... in this case, it's for LGBT (gays to be more specific)..

The title refers to a scene in a Philippine movie where the father tried getting his gay son go straight by bullying him. The father would push his head in a drum of water for a few seconds and then let him up just to ask him what he was: straight or gay? After 3 times of this, the last time he was asked he answered "Sirena" - because he was underwater.

Should've watched the video with the translations on because the lyrics of this song is amazing.
The line I like in here was, "minsan mas lalake pa sa lalake ang bakla." At the last part gloc-9 rapped. It means sometimes there's more man part of a gay than an actual man. Being a gay striving the harsh beating of his father all those times still he endure it and at the same time took care of his father. There the lines stroke as being a gay handling the situations like a man, little confusing at first but too deep if really comprehend and assimilate then you'll realize it's more like a poetry or some kind of art. Like a sonnet Shakespeare used to write, it's too deep to understand right away without repetition.

I asked my grandfather the meaning of the video and he explained to me that "sirena" (mermaid) was used after a famous gay character in the Philippines was beaten up. His father would push his head in the drum filled with water to make him realize that he's a man. So each time his head is pulled out of the water, the dad would ask, are you gay or are you a man? And everytime, he answers, "I'm gay". So the father would again push his head inside the drum hoping he'd make a man out of his son. Then one day when the son was about to faint, losing all his energy, the father asked him again, Are you gay or are you a man? The son slowly stood upwhile grasping air and with all his might shouted, I am a mermaid! This is the inspiration of the said music video proving that no matter how cold hearted the treatment of society to the gay community, these gay people stood up and fought by proving to everyone that no matter the beating, they are resilient and will continue loving their family especially the angry parents who couldn't accept them. They are so strong that they will endure everything and would never give up until they are truly accepted.
