⭐About me:
I’m WonderKat (aka Kathryn), a part time artist living in Melbourne, Australia. I work mainly in multimedia using materials like acrylic gouache, Caran d’ache luminance pencils, Ecoline markers, Caran d’ache neocolors and so much more. - Zábava
Regrets: watercolor pencils, oil pastels, Stilman and Birn sketchbooks (for me anyway, they are overrated. )Thanks for the fun video!
Totally with you on the Stillman and Birn. I even have trouble buying them because there are too many options! Not a big fan of watercolour pencils either.
I have a couple of etchr sketchbooks and they are so expensive that I’m so reluctant to touch them… luckily they were gifts but that makes it even harder…
Maybe a tip for filling your fountain pens: I use a cheap blunt syringe and refill the cartridges with waterproof ink. I don’t really like the converters either, but love my fountain pens. Although still figuring out how to mix them with all the other stuff I love😂
Me too Suz.
I think I tried the syringe a while back, should try it again. I did get one of the super5 pens that have waterproof ink cartridges but if I didn't use it every day, it got super clogged up. I guess the main thing is that I don't love using fountain pens enough for the maintenance of them and I enjoy using nib pens more.
@@sketchingtheworldwithkat that’s a good reason to ditch them 😂
My regrets: lots of kids grade supplies. I don’t want to waste money and toss it, but no one needs half-used kids supplies - not even kids. They deserve better 😅
Its hard starting out because you don't know what to buy and don't want to spend too much but sometimes cheap stuff isn't worth it.
I think the only thing I have actually regretting buying was tombow markers. It takes up more space and is less versatile than watercolor! What was I thinking?!
They are too long! Also I think they don't last very long for the price.
❤4:44 wow I LOVE your patterns series!- not just individually but being able to glimpse them all in relation to each other! Is there a flipthrough post or something I can see?
I don't. I think I filmed it for an insta story at one point so I'll see if I can find that.
Love my Lamy…use it with fine nib and water soluble sepia ink. My fude pen though I'm struggling with. It seems to clog up after a few strokes and I'm forever rinsing it out with no effect other than wasting expensive permanent ink supposedly suitable for fountain pens.
I've just never gotten along with the Lamy. Weird that your fude keeps clogging. That must be so frustrating.
Interesting to see what doesn't work for others works great for me 😅 but seriously about the copic multiliner, I didn't use mine in year because I preferred to use a brush pen, and when I came back to them they still work amazingly as they were new!
Art supplies are so subjective. And that's amazing about the copic.
That dagger brush looks beautiful. I have also found fountain pens to be troublesome, as pretty as they are!
I think you either love or hate fountain pens 😀
I love my Lamy, safari pen but for writing not art.
i should give mine another go
The watercolour markers work fantastic on Blockingford watercolour paper.
Thanks for letting me know.
The water color sticks work wonders on better paper n they r much cheaper than the tubes or half pans
Thanks for letting me know. TBH I like the control over paint consistency that tube paints give but I might give the sticks another go.
Posca Pens, Tombow Markers and most definitely the Lamy Fountain pen.
I think you either love or hate lamy pens.
My recent regret was the Langton daler rowney water Color paper… I hate how it soaks up the Color. I prefer Windsor and newton gummed and my moleskine watercolour books 🤣
Watercolour paper is such a personal thing. I've never tried the W&N.
@@sketchingtheworldwithkat i think I have a unique taste in watercolour paper too… I prefer cotton blend and most people I hear prefer just cotton
Tomboy markers. There's no system to know what shade of gray you're really gonna get. I've ruined so many paintings 😢 thanks for the video
*tombow
I know, right! I can understand the lids not matching the colour exactly but they could at least get the tonal values right. It's so annoying.
I regret buying the cheap watercolor markers that I bought every curated set of only to find out that they are waterbased and have color but they are so not watercolor markers. Haven’t found a single watercolor paper or other sketchbooks that will make them act a teeny tiny bit like watercolor. I even fell into that same trap when their packaging changed. Also regret buying some cheap ecoline type watercolor bottles or how do you call those. The color payout isn’t all that interesting and they bleed on some papers
Yikes, that's not good
I bought some Distress Crayons. God knows why but yeah I hate them the just really don’t vibe with me 😢. Bummer
I've never heard of them. Will have to check them out.
Biggest regret is the Faber-Castell Polychromos. So much hype, so useless. 😂 I don't like the watercolour sticks either, only bought in one colour. Might chop them into halfpans so I can soak them and use them up as regular watercolour. And fineliners always suck me in but I never get use out of them.
But mainly just the Polychromos. Not cheap and such a disappointment.
I'm not a fan of the Polychromos either.
Alcohol markers are overrated.
And yes, waterproof fountain pen ink is not waterproof for me either
I'm glad it's not just me!
I definitely agree the Lamy fountain pen was a bust. Big disappointment.
They aren't cheap either!
