What Do The Hogwarts Founders Artefacts ACTUALLY Do?

  • Hey everyone welcome back to Harry Potter folklore. So today’s video is going to be all about the 4 ancient artefacts of hogwarts and what they actually do. This is a question thats puzzled myself and many others because basically, we only really know what 2 of them do and as for the remaining objects, well it’s a grey, cloudy, misty area because there are clues but it’s not exactly certain.

It would have been dope to add this to Hogwarts legacy, like imagine having the cup to give you a healing potion that also gives you a over shield, you can summon the sword of Gryffindor to instantly break shields and stun everything in the area, the diadem would give you quicker spell cool downs and the ability to slow down incoming spells, finally the locket would give the user increase attack power and the ability to go invisible, and the way to get them is to pick the corresponding House associated with the artifact.

One thing that I think might have made the lore of the Horcruxes (Horcruxi?) more interesting is if Voldemort could, at any time, access whatever existing magical abilities the container of his soul fragment already naturally held as if he was physically in possession of it. Thus Voldemort's ability to fly without a broom could be explained by Slytherin's Locket holding a bit of his soul, just for example; and I'm sure you could come up with all sorts of other ideas for the rest of the relics.

Most of the properties of the locket are more of the effects of it being a horcrux.
I don't think the cup had any of the powers you stated. My theory is that it was just a nice cup, made by a muggle. Helga drank her coffee from it every morning. She liked it because it had some weird magical property that only muggles know of that kept her coffee hot longer than most other cups. The muggle who sold it to her called the magic "well insulated".

    Bad info.
Godrics sword purpose was not to kill horcruxes. The Sword made of Goblin metal (mithril) had the ability to absorb magic and other substances that it defeated. The only reason it is now capable of killing horcruxes is because it absorbed basilisk venom when harry stabbed it through the mouth and into the venom sac. The only 2 ways known by Wizard kind to destroy a horcrux is basilisk venom and fiendfire.
Ravensclaws diadem increased a persons mental prowress by enhancing focus, memory enhancement and memory recall.
Hufflepuffs cup was used by Helga not only to drink her fav beverage from, but as she was also a healer, any healing potion drunk from the cup would be fortified/enhanced in effectiveness.
The only founder whose item we don't know anything in is Slytherins which makes sense consideting his secretive nature.

technically you could also count the sorting hat that Godric owned. it's also a founder's artifact.
the sword wasn't at the headmaster office until harry got it at the chamber of secrets.
since the diadem was lost, nobody tried to find it, and the only one known to care about it (other than Helena Ravenclaw and Tom Riddle) was Xenophilius Lovegood. it's power was never confirmed in any way but, the ability to see the future is hard to believe given that it was stolen by Rowena's own daughter. didn't she see that? by the way, as far as it's known, once Riddle made a horcrux out of the diadem, nobody wore it again (unless Riddle was stupid enough to wear his own horcrux)
the feelings caused by the locket were from being a horcrux. as proof of that, Salazar wore it. it makes no sense to wear something that you knows will lead you to madness. it could be understandable if you made it to trick somebody into wearing it but not if you intend to wear it yourself.
I'm not going to coment about the cup habilities. while they sound great, if you put them in context, they aren't half as useful as they sound. but, since we know nothing about it's true powers or abilities, there's nothing to say for sure.

HP Theory: What if, either by sheer coincidence or fate, all four artifacts ended up in the hands of ( _and were effectively utilized by_ ) one person, such as one of the Golden Trio? My thought's on Hermione Granger arquiring them; primarily because of the tiara. I think it would look great on her!
Also, just as a side note - pertaining to ancient artifacts; I wonder if the Ark of the Covenant, as well as the Holy Grail, exist within the Harry Potter franchise.

    • @gameover9390
      @gameover9390 Před rokem

Well the Holy grail is said to be powerful because it was used to hold drops of Jesus Blood like the spear of destiny. The ark on the hand is powerful because in the Bible and Jewish bible any one who touches it(anywhere but the area meant for carrying it) dies, yep instant death. Another reason is that when Jews brought into Battle they either won every battle or when the other team took it God display his power that either killed them or sacred then so bad they give it back.
I have no idea how it could work in Harry Potter besides either being a lie or actually Divine! But I do like how they explained the ark power in supernatural, in supernatural the Ark is a one of the many items actually touch by God so it contains the power that just a touch by God leaves behind which aka is enough to start a another Big Bang.

Specially the effects that the artifacts produce.
Like the locket being able to make the wearer invisible and/or to fly! That theory is very impressive and fits perfectly in the wizarding world.
Also the cup of Hufflepuff. That multiplies the food you put into it. Imagine when the trio was in the quest for horcruxes, they could have done a great use of the cup.
The diadem was also very well thought out. Because it does fits perfectly with what Rowena Reavenclaw represents. And we all know the powers of the sword.

I don't think a lot of the powers you shared for the sword and locket are fair. They're not powers of the object but added to it either by dark magic (locket) or additional interactions. Godric's sword, being goblin made, absorbed only that which strengthened it. That and the ability to appear to worthy griffyndors is the power. The horcrux destruction is the ability of basilisk venom, not the sword specifically.

The locked of Slytherin was worn for generations by the descendants of Salazar Slytherin, including Voldy's Mother and Grandfather. Given that the diary horcrux had the ability to possess Giny to the point of using her as a puppet, I'm fairly certain that the locket's ability to make the wearer angrier is due to Voldy's soul piece, and not an inherent ability. The sword of Gryffindor's inherent ability is to absorb the properties of whatever it touches. The ability to destroy horcruxes is a fairly new property that it acquired after CoS. I do like your theory about Hufflepuff's cup, kind of like the "cup of requirement".

  • @seangere9698

It seems like you made Slytherins locket into nothing but a dark object other than the flying and invisibility. I doubt there was any dark power to it up to the point of Voldemort getting his unworthy grubby hands on it.
Just like I don't believe Slytherin was a dark wizard. I think it is all a lie by Gryffindor after their fight to make himself look better in the eyes of the other founders as well as the school. I also think the Basilisk was there, not to kill Muggleborns but to defend Hogwarts from those within as well as without who wish to do harm to Hogwarts and anyone faithful to Hogwarts. I think the reason for the fight between Slytherin and Gryffindor was due to Slytherin not trusting Muggleborns due to someone close to him being killed by either a group of Muggles or Muggleborns and over time it was switched to Slytherin was a Blood supremacist and was based on the false accusations of Gryffindor. Look at his symbol, the snake, in Celtic mythology, the snake represents rebirth as well as healing, remember Slytherin is Irish, his wand turned into a new kind of Snakewood that couldn't be pruned unless it allowed it and when it did it's leaves has one of the best healing properties in the Wizarding World. Do you think a wand that was used for evil would turn into a tree that can cure just about any ailment?

now, IN MY HEAD (not canon) i see the slytherin locket as a charm, that increases your chances of recognition and ambition.
you see, the locket twisted the minds of harry, ron and hermione, it messes with their heads, showing them dark thoughts whitch grow increasingly more darker, the more they wear it (aka the horcrux living in their head).
but what happened to umbridge, a person who's already fucked up, morally corrupted and with no fucks given to climb up the social ladder? it dosnt seem to have any affect on her, she only grows more powerful with it (head of an entire empartment).
so MAYBE the original form of the locket (before voldie corrupted it) was, that the wearer got more influence, maybe more charisma or 'spontaneous' recognition from higher ups, a chance to become more powerful when the wearer already shows some ambition to begin with.
idk in my head it sounds like that would be an IDEAL to the pureblooded slyterin families who CRAVE for more power

Strictly speaking for the cup of hufflepuff, lets not forget that helga lived at a time that witches and wizards were being hunted just for practicing magic. Pure speculation but its possible that helga hufflepuff came from a wizarding family descended from the vikings. 2 reasons for this. 1, the original hufflepuff crest was supposed to be a bear, not a badger, and 2, the vikings were in fact in wales around the same time, the earliest raids beginning in 850. I think that "the darker side of the cup" that you pointed out dean, is actually NOT that food would turn to ash in your mouth, but that it would produce either a verituserum-like effect where you could ask someone a question and theyd be compelled to tell the truth, or, if the cup detected any ill intent from the drinker to its master, at the time being helga herself, itd poison the drinker.
Think of it this way, your at a banquet. The four founders are hosting. Helga is going around passing her cup and insisting that everyone drink from hers first before the feast begins. The four founders dont object to this, but yoir obviously puzzled. You ask why you should and she simply says something akin to manners. Rowena ravenclaw is scanning the table with an unreadable expression. Godric is noticeably tense but noone at the table knows why. Salazar has the same expression as rowena but hes got more of a scowl to him. Helga is the only one at the table that is completely calm, cool and collected. You decide to drink and its the best drink youve ever had. The cup goes around and one of the guests suddenly drops dead. Everyone is confused except the founders, who all seem to relax. Helga looks at the body for a moment and says something along the lines of, "I will never allow harm to come to those who attend our school, be they pure-blood, muggle-born, or half-blood. Obviously they thought differently," and she motions for the body to be carried away. Godric would then state that he will fight for everyone who sits at that table, rowena would say something about how true wisdom is knowing when to lay down your arms and talk things out, and salazar would probably say something really ambiguous like "a table set for an assassination, combined with a presentation on wisdom and strength. Is that truly how we should be presenting ourselves to the magical community?" Some more words on how everyone is happy everyone is there, and the feast would begin.
Note: dont imagine this as a start of term feast at hogwarts. This scenario is just any old banquet at any old hall. You just happen to be there and you dont wish any ill-intent on the founders cuz your not a jerkface

Question. Since it destroyed horcruxes, does that mean that the power/magic within those objects were absorbed by the sword? And by doing so, is there a possibility that a fragment, or a piece of V's soul may have survived through the sword?

Hello I just want to ask a question because I am a bit confused about this but I'm just going to ask you anyway isn't Harry Potter and Tom Riddle AKA Lord Voldemort is distant cousins from their ancestors by the peverell Brothers because if I'm correct didn't marvolo say in the Half-Blood Prince with the peverell coat of arms on Slytherin ring and Harry's invisibility cloak and I think Dumbledore said the same thing in the Order of the Phoenix when Harry was in his chamber after Sirius died or was it the Goblet of Fire either way the two wines recognize each other as not as siblings but as family and everybody thought he was talking about when he took the blood from Harry because of Lily I believe this more than that.

The only artifact that Voldemort didn't use to make a horcrux was the sword of Gryffindor. Ironically, the sword was used to destroy several other horcruxes and was goblin made and rumored to be indestructible. If the sword was made into a horcrux, it would have been the most difficult to destroy.

The only person we know who wore the locket, other than Slytherin before the horcrux creation, was Merope Gaunt. Is it possible that the locket warped her mind enough while she would pine over Tommy Riddle? That the locket’s manipulation was WHY she decided to give him the love potion, that it somehow gave her the impression that her life would be perfect with him?
