She hits a Bb5

This video is like a continuation of the last live vocals I did of Brandy. She keeps slaying the stage and it is hard to keep up with her best performances when they keep on getting better and better. So here's yet another attempt to capture the best of Brandy. Enjoy! (side note the F#5 is from the movie Double Platinum and the runs in the video are only a snippet, watch the first one)

Brandy's low notes are fucking disgusting! And I mean that in the most complimentary way…love her

+Angela Wang Love them
***** good xD
Lol i was reading and literally went like : what the fuck? But then i could breathe again
@@marcosszimmermann So me.
YES! I love her lower register. Her belting is pretty nice too. Her voice is quite fluid. Her voice just riffs off so easily & naturally.
Brandy's voice was adorable during Human. That Right Here falsetto was beautiful!!! The runs in Wildest Dreams are sick!!!
You have to be musically inclined to fully comprehend the beast of Brandy's vocals....My God a vocal world wonder she is.
No
@@jcreate2003 ik u liked ur own comment...
@@bluecosmo. but its true, she is kinda overrated
anyone can tell that brandy is a beast even if they know nothing about singing
@@mariahxwhitney4534What? She’s one of the most underrated rnb singers from the 90s😭
Her upper register reminds me of Tori Kelly’s!! Very agile and light!
She can just flat out SANG. Yes Brandy, yes!
Brandy's voice type is EXTREMELY hard to truly gauge even for more experienced ears. Considering the size and weight of her voice, along with her overall registration and lastly singing tessitura, if Brandy's voice were to be categorized into classical music she would mostly be cast as a hybrid voice type; she'd be a dugazon (or dark-colored [mezzo] soubrette). The reason for this is mainly due to the immense brightness and treble in the 5th octave (with the likeness of a light lyric), with a size notably smaller than lyric mezzos (i.e Beyonce, Christina A, Jazmine Sullivan, etc)..yes she has a great colorful, lower extension, but if you listen to her lows in comparison to other mezzos, that true, robust "core" that mezzos carry in the 3rd/4th octaves. Brandy simply lacks the density and heft (although, her notes are unusually rich to be so light) it should have all the way up to C5 which is when her voice just starts picking up resonance. Most mezzo voices could produce a good sizable belt as low as G#4, while Brandy's first passagio is that of a soprano F4 ..her lack of confidence which forcibly lowered her tessitura doesn't negate her registration points..anyways most of her vocal resonance, color, character and ease comes from the 5th octave, although her fear in delving in that part of the voice creates a lot of unneccessary tension that I personally think she needs to get over ..her head voice potential (that Eb6, though) also confirms this theory. I'd wish she'd start trying to connect her entire range more (ala Beyonce who seems to have mastered her passagio which is why a lot of her inflections are able to tranverse so many registers) so that she have more access to more notes instead of limiting herself to a smaller confined "comfy" spot in her voice. ..hence the lower tessitura
Basically she's a light lyric soprano with a unique dark coloring and lower extension ..Very similar to Mariah Carey, although her voice wasn't nearly as dark, but just as light.
Omg these aren't lyric voices. These are fairly big voices, smh
She's not that hard to classify. People just don't know how to classify voices based on contemporary singing instead of how the voice would sound in a classical setting. She would be a lyric soprano. I dare say she's a full lyric.
" She would be a lyric soprano." - I'd say she's more of a hybrid voice..a duguzon. she doesn't have the tessitura of a lyric soprano.. Brandy also doesn't have the size or heft of a full lyric, which is more akin to Lara Fabian or Celine Dion..
Devonte Lampkin she isn't a hybrid voice. Her voice is easily classified if she were to sing classical and that is the point. Many don't know how to classify contemporary singers. Her voice picks up resonance after middle C which is the bottom of a Lyric Soprano's tessitura and the highest note she's hit is an E6 which is just above the top of a Lyric Soprano's tessitura. This is noticeable even in her lack of classical training so it would definitely be more obvious if she were to sing Opera. Anything below a middle C for her is airy and lacks support but she's made a career out of singing this way so many assume she has a lower tessitura.
excellent analysis and well-written!
She could be a Soprano if you listen to her music of 90's;
She could be a Mezzo if you listen to her recent music.
She is a soprano even in later voice it's just her voice matured and developed with age
Best lower registry of her generation. IDC what anyone says. She's up there with Aretha! Love her C5/C#5. Her first and third Eb5's slay. Her first E5 and second F5 are everything! Her head voice is pretty, wish she used it more. The "Almost Doesn't Count" runs towards the end gave me chills.
She was once called baby re because of her riffs
Her voice is incredible! Her melismas are sick! She's a great belter too!
Her voice is anointed :)
It's even more evident if you've ever attended one of her concerts ...HE is all over her!
Yessssss she has such a beautiful voice and her technique is 🔥🔥🔥
I've listened to Brandy as a tool for my own vocals... Her technique is flawless
Brandy is a vocal beast!! She should be celebrated for her skills way more.
I think she's a mezzo, her tone reminds me of Jojo but sweeter. She uses a lot of twang which might explain why her belts are so bright and light but based on this video, you can tell she isn't at ease above C5 (which should easy for a soprano) because she pushes and is very chesty above that note
She used to be a light lyric soprano, very typical, at the beginning of her career but her voice matured and her tessitura dropped. She's not a contralto but could be a specific type of soprano, even tho I believe she's just a mezzo now
Edit: she's a soprano
Vocal range Bran!!! That register tho....She's that Talented!!! #Teambrandy
Brandy's vocals are just...cant be categorized.
Awesome! Brandy just keeps surprising me
Oh my goodness lol. Love this vid. I just love when she takes it back to church!!! Amazing voice.
I don't think she is a Contralto... She just have a extensive low register (And she can not singer confortably in the seccond octave AT ALL without a airy sound)! She is a Soprano... People have to stop thinking that just because a girl can yawn some low notes it makes her a contralto or even mezzo, mezzos and contraltos do not grow on trees like that, those are rare voices and you can live entire life without hearing a true contralto (That's a once in a generation voice kind, Kattle Ferrier, Clara Butt, the late Fedora Barbieri, The late Grace Jones and Galina Baranova are exemples but even Cher after Sonny and Cher is a strage case because her voice was not deep and intubated the way we are use to today, so contraltos are ULTRA RARE, and in pop music today you can not find a single true exemple).
mezzo, not soprano :)
yeah, can be a mezzo to, but a Contralto never!
A deep, full, powerfull and cold female voice, like Ewa Podles and Classic music and Grace Jones in Pop music.
Sávio Alves Grace Jones plus; Cher, Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics and Ruth Pointer of the Pointer Sisters. A contralto voice has an androgynous sound ( male & female). It is also rich and thick in body.
She's more of a lazy lyric mezzo soprano. Not to say, she can not sing in that register, it's just that, in her last several albums, she's just not using that part of her range. That maybe due to the writer's arrangement of each song and what they may feel is/was her best vocal facility at the time. But in recent years, her vocal range has expanded and improved greatly since the time of her first album in '95 at age 16 yrs. old.
I didnt know Brandy can sing like that .
Nobody did but real true fans. Been a fan since forever. Glad u Kno now 🤗
oh she’s one of the goats
They don't call her the Vocal Bible for nothin'😉
No shit
wow i love her voice and low note :3 her voice so agile, her melisma :3
This video is so much life!
I just screamed!! She is dumb talented! I love you Brandy
But when she sings "when you touch Me" there aren't any runs that I dont SCREAM after
I love her lower register and her C5's slays!
Amazing!!!
Brandy isn't a mezzo. Fach has to be determined when you consider a singers abilities from a classical standpoint and how they would perform in that aspect. She's more of a lyric soprano.
thatsoulchild she is a LYRIC MEZZO, there is nothing soprano-ish about her voice at all. She doesn't even sing within the soprano tessitura
RyderC Daniels I already explained to you on the other video she does indeed have the tessitura of a Lyric Soprano especially if she were to sing Bel canto style.
thatsoulchild yea she's a lyric Soprano... very airy abd breathy like Aaliyah
Mico, The DON someone who understands. Although she has an extended lower register, her low notes are very airy and her voice shines in the 4th and 5th octaves. Even more so when she sings in head voice.
thatsoulchild she's a low-voiced lyric mezzo not a soprano
Brandy is a light lyric coloratura mezzo-soprano, the smallest size of a mezzo, which is not that distinguishable from a light lyric soprano. Nevertheless, her first passagi F#4 has shown that she is a mezzo.
She is not a coloratura
@@davischideraaduru1501 how isn't she? She's very agile
@@simonyanga9551 and fluid !
Definitely not a coloratura
Someone give me the link to the performance she doing at 0:12.
This video makes me at Brandy differently. She can really sing.
OMG what was that run at 4:25??
I love this video and I love Brandy but those are not F# 2's, they're 3's, still impressive though.
Yes! Brandy, Beyoncé, JoJo, Adele, Rihanna, and Lianne La Havas have my favorite lower registries at the moment.
YESSSSS! ADteam, she hit that. Thanks! Are you going to repost it? BTW Luke is amazing
Yes! I don't know who the last singer you mentioned is, but Rihanna's lows are pretty nice, and the others you said, just yes.
The way Jojo's voice has developed... Just good GOD. Her lower registry is everything now, which is funny cuz it used to be only okay. Adele's ease is awesome there, Beyonce slays in every register obviously, and Brandy... Well dang. Do I have to say anything aside from listen to the first F#2s here? Haha
I love brandy
She always been my favorite singer
What’s the song at 3:39
brandy and Monica has officially been heavy hitter certified. now that they got rhru pube and young adulthood!
I'm getting the spirit listening to this. She be going in! There's only 1 Brocka!!
YES! Thats it...thank you :)
No one's voice touches me the way Brandy's voice does. I dont know what it is. I cant explain it. It just does everytime. It touches me deep in my soul and its amazing.
MzMelissaRae Tina Turner have the best black voice
I love when she sings low omg
So...I love Brandy. I'm one of her biggest fans. But as a Music Theory teacher, I'd have to say the F#2 is actually and F#3 that you're hearing. Not to say that Brandy can't get lower than that, but the example you provided showed her singing a little below middle C which is C4. It changes at every C.
+Jameel McKanstry Lmao, please tell me you aren't serious. What kinda Music Theory do you teach?
Jameel McKanstry actually if you guys listen to the final note at the end of the run it was indeed an F#2 she ran down from the F#3
thatsoulchild nah son that's was an F#3. I'm a musician
Mariah Carey Fan I’m a misician too you know and at the bottom of the run she did F#2!
And be a lil serious:
Could be an F#3?The answer is no: if you compare to other Brandy’s F#3 you’ll notice that the others are richer of color and are open and audible.
The note that you claim as a F#3 isn’t audible and it’s way to airy to seem like one of Brandy’s F#3.
Even if you listen to an other note of her like Eb3 or even C3 you’ll notice that the “F#3” is lower than the C3 and of the Eb3.
Wear headphones while listening to them.
Def an F#2 I literally pulled out a keyboard aside from being a musician the best way was to test it, it is very cleary an F#2
really nice video! i really like her influences on comtempory rnb and how she inspired other musicians (even the greatest) with her artistry. Can u tell me the name of the song at 6:03 ?
I know I’m very late but it’s happy by brandy
can you give me the link for 0:49?
I like her fucking voice
What is the song @ 5:57 in the black dress?
Happy
The song at 5:57 is "Happy".
Those airy low notes don't even count... Her lowest note, in this video, that really has some body and strength is the Eb3, which is great for a soprano.
She’s not a Soprano, she’s a mezzo
@@rydercdaniels4475 nope soprano
That is my mom!!!!!!
Love her Life!
It's called Best Friend. The lowest note in that song is C#3. But live, she goes down to an F#2
She has a G#2 in another live performance of this song too.
vocal run from 6:10 is from where???!!!

We need a vocal range video for young brandy
Where is the E6 ??????
What song does she sing the F#2's ??
IloveArethaFranklin best friend
5:21 slayed me so hard omg
Monica could NEVER
Lianne La Havas? She's AMAZING, she's from the UK (Jamaican & Greek), but her music and voice is stunning. JoJo is like.. my favorite singer right now. Her voice is everything! Rihanna has such a nice lower registry, wish she's take singing more seriously. Adele has so much ease in her lower registry, like Alicia Keys, I hope she showcases more of it. Bey doesn't dip into her lows (live) anymore, but yeah. They're nice. And Brandy's lower registry is better than most male singers out. Lol!
Her runs are ridiculous! #Compliment
From 4:40 to 4:52 my God.... vocal beast for real
3:16 what is that song? It sounds damn good!
torn down
+Matthew Johnson thanks
Sooo B2-F#5?
Those lows...
her F2# are u serious was great
does anyone know her supported range?
Samuel Effman her lowest supported note is B2, her highest supported belts are E5(occasionally F5), and her highest supported head voice note is G5
Samuel Effman from this video, sounds like she supports around B2/C3 until C#5/D5. She pushes a lot after D5.
C3-C#5-C6,first passagi F#4,high-set light lyric coloratura mezzo-soprano.
What song is 5:20?
Talk About Our Love
We got the same vocal range ☺
D'Erra Benard no she can't
Those are not F#2's they're F#3's. She cannot go that low down to the 2nd octave.

@@Z3R0.00 what’s 3:39???
Bey's and Mariah's lows are pretty durn crazy. But Brandy takes the cake by far. I've never heard anyone top her down there. Not even Toni or Sade or Phyllis Hyman. I'm keeping all the way 100 when I say that
You must be playing a lot comparing her with Toni 🙊🙊
Toni and mariah did, and it's crazy for mariah bc she can go wayyy up high and go wayyy down low
I agree . As great as Mariah and Toni are they don’t sound as comfortable or as smooth as brandy in her lows.
anybody know the song in the beginning??
Victoria V put it down
Luuaan Henrique omg thank u i found it 💕
Good video but she's not a contralto in the slightest. She's a clear cut mezzo.
+CY T if she is not a contralto, then Jazmine Sullivan is not a contralto. Their voices are very very similar and Jazmine is a contralto. But despite that, Brandy is a contralto
JLPerryTV Please provide evidence and vocal terms to explain why you somehow think both are contraltos? The clear cut mark of a contralto is a deep, low, eerie/hollow voice with manly/bass tones in the lower range giving them a thick, dark, heavy androgynous/ambiguous timbre - neither of them sound manly or hollow at all, even in their lower registers. And this should same timbre should be retained up into the 4th and sometimes lower 5th octave not including head voice because that is usually rather feminine and bright. For a true contralto you need to think when you listen to them, "wow, they sound like a guy!" - these two sound too feminine in comparison to contraltos like Cher, Annie Lennox and Nina Simone.
CY T it just common sense
+JLPerryTV That's not proof so sorry, I can't take your comment seriously. I gave you facts about how to identify a contralto, and neither Brandy or Jazmine fit the description so unless you can back up your claim your whole comment is void of any value.
+CY T would you say that toni Braxton is contralto?
am always blown away
Matthew Johnson sexy DAMN
Brannon Colter thank u

Gotcha
Hmmm some of these are suspect, mainly full moon. Brandy hasn't sounded that high since. Love her, though
No they aren't. I checked the piano.
Soprano. Contralto? lol. in some areas she reminds me Michelle Williams with better lows.
I think she's mezzo soprano
She might be a lower soprano actually
@@reggiemitchell5198 What is a lower soprano?! Any thing lower is a mezzo soprano.
@@Calvin375no just like there can be low mezzo sopranos and high mezzos..there can be low sopranos and high sopranos. Brandy is a lower soprano. Her voice sits higher and a little to high to be a mezzo. Another singer like that is Beyoncé who had a very bright a natural soprano and her voice got darker but I feel like she’s still a soprano just with a darker tone. She still has that upper register and can sing all the same songs in the same keys and hit all the high or low notes in it.
Incredible lower register.
😴🔥
She sounds like a lyric mezzo to me.
She is a Lyric Mezzo ;)
Jonathan Gardner Yay! I got it! =)
TheMaleAvenger she is
