Got an 81 XL-500s yesterday for $1700. It rides but stumbles past 3/4 throttle. Hoping doing what you did in this video fixes it so I can really open her up on the road.
Just got my xl500 and came to check because the seller was correct it was jetted wrong on my carb the main jet has a very tiny hole to see through and glad to see I was correct it needed to be a lot bigger then is now I already have new rebuild kit on the way should fix it right up
There’s a small rubber O-ring where the needle goes in the carb (where the fuel comes in). Be careful it doesn’t come out if you blow compressed air in it.
@@belowzero5817 I only had one spare and used it on my last project. Maybe try searching on Facebook for a XL500 page and join it. Then ask them. I do that….
@@WeekendHobbyMechanic okay thank you if not I was thinking of taking a boot off of a different kind of carb that looks pretty similar and just using that one but hopefully i find one thank you
Thanks for making this video. Got my 1978 XL250S running again!
Awesome!

This was very helpful. Thank you for the video.
Glad the video helped...
WOW very explicit. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, now I have the guts to do the same to my 1978 XL250s ...
👍

👏🏻👍
Can’t get gas to squirt out at the end, any idea what I did wrong or what I should look for? Great video btw, was very helpful.
Checkout the video at 11:00mins. Were the holes in the membrane good? Does the Accelerator pump shaft move when you twist the throttle?
I have a 1982 xl500r and want to swap in a mikuni carb. Any idea what the best size and jetting would be?
Don’t know off hand. I put a 1979 XR500 carb (and intake boot) on my XL500s. 2mm bigger.
I have the exact same carb. Can’t find pilot jet anywhere on it. Does it have one? Thanks for the video!
Check at 10mins into the video. There’s a small rubber o-ring, spring and then the adjustment screw.
Would this be the same procedure on 1981 xr500? Seems to look like the same carb
Same.
Hey do you think you need that little rubber boot for the accelerator pump rod ?
That rubber boot needs to be in good shape, the pump won’t work if it’s deformed.
@@WeekendHobbyMechanic oh no my pump doesn’t even have one any idea where I might find one ?

@@belowzero5817 Let me know if it works...
what dimension kn filter goes on dis karb
2-inch opening.
Is that a PD10a carburetor
PD7A.
What size main jet do you use?
Stock is 155.
@@WeekendHobbyMechanic ok, my Xl 500 81 runs a bit boggy. It's got a high compression piston and a 140 main jet. Maybe I should try a bigger jet?
@@TopRevs 140 is too small. This jet controls 3/4 to wide open throttle.
Alguien me puede decir el número del chiklec d gasolina de alta por favor
What do you mean by “del chiklec”?
El hueco por donde pasa la gasolina en alta el carburador de mi XL 500 es de 108 es muy chico se atora el original q cuánto es
Yes too small. The main jet size is 155 from factory.
