      I think fans are more tame in both codes these days, though we have some ferals in AFL, I'm a Collingwood supporter and you don't want to see some of our fans. Especially when we play Richmond, Geelong, Carlton or Essendon. They have some feral fans too those clubs.
      I know NRL fans can be pretty feral too, though I don't see too many feral fans since I've only been to one away game and one neutral game. At home (storm) games you aren't going to see opposition fans play up since they are outnumbered about 20:1. Though there was one instance where a Rabbits fans did want to fight me, for what reason I don't know, I was cheering because we beat them in golden point, he picked me out and was going to come up to me, another Rabbits fan (big Maori bloke) who was sitting behind me stuck up for me, so the other guy walked off. For context though, I had been talking to the Rabbits fans behind me all game, having a laugh, talking about the game and what not, we were getting along really well.

    AFL players are arguably fitter and more skilful than rugby league players. Let’s see a rugby player run while bouncing an oval shaped ball in front of him. If a rugby player catches the ball, they make a big deal about it. That’s a common skill in AFL, especially with the high marks. Some AFL players game distances are measured in kilometres, while rugby players are measured in metres.

    • @louiedavo6315
      @louiedavo6315 Před 2 lety +4

      There is one big difference between catching a ball between the codes afl if you catch the ball it’s a mark..in rugby league if you catch a ball you don’t get to stand there and not worry about getting tackled you have to catch the ball with the thought of someone is running at you and going to smash you in a tackle..in AFL they only grab in tackles between the shoulder and waist…

    • @Howlomusicc
      @Howlomusicc Před 2 lety +7

      @@louiedavo6315 sorry mate but in the free flowing play of AFL, you have players coming from every angle with the likelihood of getting blindsided and folded. And as someone who grew up in rural NSW who has played both codes of footy, I will say without hesitation afl is the more brutal sport to play for that exact reason, keeping in mind players in the AFL are also running on average 16kms a game with the explosive speed and change in direction every second, no NRL player would survive. At least with League you know where and when you’re going to be hit. (Also in afl you’re allowed to shoulder charge and bump without grabbing in the tackle, so you’re wrong there)

I grew up in Melbourne in the 70’s & 80’s, so followed Australian rules because that’s what I was exposed to and it was a great game from the 70’s up until about 2010. Then with more tv coverage into Melbourne of rugby league, especially state of origin, I have grown to really like the game and actually prefer it to Aussie rules these days. As a diehard Aussie Rules fan I sadly could not agree more. The AFL have absolutely killed the game, especially with the stupid and unnecessary rule changes. Even I cannot even watch it anymore, it is just painful to watch.
      I mean absolute fair play to Gil Mclachlan for getting the game and all 18 clubs through COVID, giving other cities the Grand Final, establishing the AFLW and leaving his legacy on growing girls and women’s footy, but backing Steve Hocking who kept fucking up the game with the new rule changes I’m not a fan of to the point where I can barely think of another sport that changes so many of its rules yearly than Australian Rules Football
      Hopefully with Andrew Dillon now at the helm and Gil and Steve gone, the game changes for the better, professionally and also at the grassroots. I hope this is the case (for local footy at least, getting participation rates back up) as Andrew has said that community footy is his priority

    Had been a AFL follower for 40+ years never again it has been ruined by the constant rule changes and the lack of quality umpires there seems to be one set of rules for the top teams and another for the lower one plus the biggest thing it’s all about money TV rights you cannot even bounce the ball after a goal until the red light on the score board tells you the adds have finished on tv, If you what to see how a good game is run go to a Melb Storm game you have opposition supporters sitting with home team people and not a bad word is said between them the atmosphere throughout the game would leave the AFL for dead from the time you get to the ground the whole experience is far more organised more professionally run and everyone seems more down to earth a more family feeling that l believe the AFL has lost over the years. I’m still a member of a AFL club and like to see my team do well but have not been to a game for over 20 years and cannot even watch any game on tv due to what l have mentioned above, l never thought this would happen but after being to one Melbourne Storm game lm seriously thinking of fully converting and becoming a storm member next season the AFL should be worried because when you talk to these NRL fans in Victoria they also have turned away from AFL.

      Yes, Craig, that's understandable. 50% of people MUST be below average intelligence, that's how averages work. AFL is one of the most structured games in the world, extremely data and coaching heavy, it is a fast paced 360 degree game, not everyone is going to understand it.

    • @Quinctili
      @Quinctili Před 2 lety +7

      @J G yep, and your numbers are high because not everyone around the world is Australian.
      Soccer suits small, frail skinny weak people who are prone to fainting, and there's more of them than there are extremely fast, agile, durable, skilled, athletic but rock hard, 2m to 2.13 m tall AFL athletes. Soccer strollers aren't even in the same class as the slow, fat rugby dudes. It's funny. The very, very patient soccer people (face it, nothing happens and no-one scores) point out world numbers and the money involved, but not one, NOT ONE, soccer fan has ever said their sport is exciting. They can't. And you might want to check the growth rate of AFL, not just in Australia. There are two national men's, and now a national women's league in the US, it's played in 60 countries, adding 10 last year. In South Africa alone they added 60,000 young kids to the Auskick program last year.

      Crowds are smaller for regular NRL games in Sydney are not as big because Rugby League is better to watch on TV than at the ground (vice versa for AFL) and it is not worth driving across Sydney in traffic for a game that only lasts 80 minutes. The Newcastle, Illawarra and Canberra teams are not doing well which is why their crowds are lower.

      @J G football (soccer) is the number one sport on earth because it hailed from England. Australian Rules Football (the game played on a big cricket oval with four posts at each end), despite being a great game, goes nowhere because it was created in Victoria. Iron clad guarantee that if football (soccer) was created in Victoria, it would still be struggling to find a foothold in NSW and Queensland, let alone anywhere else in the world. Additionally, if this football code played on a big cricket oval with four posts at either end was created in England or even the United States, it would be a major sport around the world. So, before we compare sports, which is for lobotomised people and is senseless anyway, it has nothing to do with whether one is better than the other, it's about the custodians of each sport, and the Australian game has the worst. If the game played on a big cricket ground with four posts at either end was created by the English, and rugby league was created in Victoria, it would be rugby league stuck in this country alone and the football game played on a cricket ground that would be the major international game instead. Australian Rules Football is a truly good game that just happened to have been created by the smallest, narrowest minded people in all sport.
