I just bought a used Reflex and should be getting it tomorrow. I'm really glad for videos like yours (and HRFunk's etc) that talk about the accuracy issues. With that information in mind, I noticed that the point of aim they show in the Reflex manual (pg. 32) is kinda strange. They show the top of the front and rear sights being in line (fine...) but that puts the dots way out of line with each other. I'll bet a lot of shooters are lining up the dots. I'm certainly in that habit from my VP9 with night sights since that's how they're designed to work. Based on that illustration alone I would guess that lining up the dots would cause the pistol to shoot at least 3-4 inches low at 7-10 yards. If mine does that (it's in the 46xx serial number range) I'm going to try blacking out the rear dots as that should help make it easier to line up the tops of the sights before swapping it out for a different rear sight. If it turns out I'm right, I assume it's simply a poor design choice on FN's part since that sounds better than FN blaming us all for not knowing how to aim a pistol ;) .

Mine when measured was physically too short. I tried everything from the "combat" sight picture to the traditional top of the front to top of the rear.
Mine, regardless of sight picture and poa.
Shooting with the flush baseplate helps also.
It's a good pistol when everything is sorted!

I purchased a Reflex about a week ago and didn’t see the videos with folks having problems. I always clean a new pistol and its magazines before I take it to the range. I shot it about 250 times without an issue. It took me a little time to get used to the trigger and the recoil impulse. I found it to be enjoyable to shoot and the recoil manageable. The only time I shot low and to the left was when I would anticipate the recoil and push the pistol to the left and low. Once I was used to the trigger and recoil, I kept my shots in the 9 and 10 ring out to 25 yards. I will change the back sight out to the correct number and replace with night sight.

    • @ByronETAWheels
      @ByronETAWheels  Před měsícem

I'm really glad they seem to have ironed out the issues some of the early pistols like mine had! My suggestion is that if you are shooting it well with the existing sight setup, don't change it! The front sight is already a night sight and with some practice quite functional as is.
I changed mine due to the accuracy issues it showed. I love how well it shoots now though. The intent was not to add night sight function to the rear, I simply went with what was on the shelf at my local gun store.

@@ByronETAWheels they must have ironed out the issues then. I heard some hype from Spnfirearms and how it was becoming his new favorite, so when I seen a used one for $350 and it was barely used I snatched it up. Then I seen all the bad reviews and was worried but I had only shot it at like 15ft and I figured that it was just me anticipating recoil. So this next time I will try at a further distance and rest my hands just to make sure. My rear sight post is bigger than the dovetail slot and hangs over the dovetail towards the front of the gun and it looks like yours in the first clip didn’t. So if that’s the case then mine definitely has a different rear sight. Thanks for the reply and reading my ramble!

Years ago when I owned and carried an FNS-9, one of the only things I didn’t like about the pistol was that it shot several inches low compared to my other pistols. I always assumed that was because it was zeroed at some abnormal distance. I basically had to learn to adapt to shooting low.

It's a good little shooter overall, but I highly recommend a compact or mid size as a first firearm over a micro compact as it's much easier to shoot, more accurate and overall a better choice for overall utility.
That being said, if you are set on a micro compact pistol, this is a fantastic choice!
Having shot the SIG, hellcat and CZ micro compact pistols, I would take the reflex over all of them as my favorite, especially if you have big hands like I do.
Just take the time to learn the gun, and I'd also highly recommend budgeting about 500-700 rounds for the first few range trips so you can really get a feel for it's capabilities and limitations before carrying it daily.
The battery of arms for the pistol is quite simple, but add some snap caps into the range sessions for simulation of a dud round. It forces you to also learn how to clear and return to the fight quickly and more efficiently.
But most of all, have fun on the journey!

I watched many videos on this reflex gun with accracy issues... As you some claimed that the rear sight was the reason for the issue among a few others.
Finally I watched one channel that actually reconized the problem in why many are havin the same issue... Being that this gun is small, the way most are gripping - particularly the front grip in that they are actually torquing the gun down & left as the trigger is pulled...
At first shooting this handgun at a distance of 150ft that he was use to doing everyday,he was dumbfounded in why he was missing with this new gun🤔?...
He has above average size hands and eventually understood the real problem... The next day he corrected his grip and started hitting the steel targets at the same distance everytime and with rapid fire as well...
The first day he shot 200rds without much success... The second day after discovering what the real issue was and Not the rear sight,he shot 1,000 rds in 2 hours at slow and rapid fire and switching from just one hand to the other... It was amazing to watch... He proved for a fact that the issue was in how you were gripping the small handgun and again - particularly in how gripping the front handgrip under the trigger guard is the issue... 👍😎🇺🇸

That may have worked for whomever did the review, but it doesn't change the fact that FN shipped my sights with a #6 rear.
The magazine finger rest did contribute a bit, but mainly I simply didn't care for it, so I removed it.
Changing the rear sight to the correct height of #8 solved 100% of my accuracy issues.
I hope that person's review helps you! It's a fantastic little gun, and the only micro 9 I shoot well. It took a lot of trial and error for me.

I've had 3 Reflexes (Long story) and all of them had problems. I bought it to replace my G43. I love the FN grip, I love the sights, and the trigger is pretty good from the factory. All of them had failure to feed problems. One would have a soft strike about every 3rd round. We tried 5 different types of ammo and 9 different magazines. We put about 200 rounds through each gun. All of them would shoot low left no matter who was shooting it. I put Holosun 507k red dots on 2 of them and I had the elevation up maxed out and it still wouldn't bring the POI up to POA. I put a laser bore sight cartridge in them and it would not line up with the iron sights. It showed low left on all of them. The same laser bore sight lined up perfectly in all of my other handguns. I sold 2 of them and the 3rd one has been at FN since September for repair, in hopes that I can at least have one good one. That was 3 months ago and it's still not fixed.

That's not good news to hear. I hope they get you sorted out. I'm waiting for a reply about a possible crack just behind the locking lug on my pistol currently.
My biggest complaint about the gun was the sights, and the finger rest which does cause the gun to drift left. I switched to the flush baseplate almost immediately.
After swapping my sights out for the #8 SIG set, my accuracy issues vanished.
But now at 2500 rounds I have deadlined my pistol until I hear back from FN about the crack.
The ergonomics of the pistol are fantastic, but I still carry my 1911 or G48 more than anything else for my EDC.
My gun was super picky about ammo when new, but that eventually cleared up. I really hope you get a good one back.
I believe I'm going to end up selling mine and getting a 43x slide assembly and using that with my 48 and waiting for CZ to release their micro compact in the same size category.

@@hixnada8278 definitely not, but it does take some getting used to. I highly recommend adding in some snap caps while at the range to simulate a malfunction. I say this because you have to fully rack the slide to recock the hammer. Unlike a striker fired pistol, there is no second strike capability. So plan for that in your manual of arms and manipulation drills while training with it.
As for the trigger, the hinged trigger design is pretty effective and the internal locking of the trigger mechanism is QUITE stout. I have a video where I disassembled the slide, and it's a really well designed pistol. I'll dig it up and link it for you.

I wonder if i could send it back to fn and let them fix the sites since they claim it should already be adjusted.

I'll follow up tomorrow morning and send you a link to a really nice sight pusher. It's inexpensive and works fantastic. I'm actually doing a review of it when I change my 1911 sights.
But I used it to correct the rear sights , after I changed it out for the #8 SIG rear sight.

FN QC told me their standard is 3" 5 shot group with 124gr American Eagle ball. They don't actually measure if it's poi, just that it's capable of that level of accuracy.

@ByronETAWheels nice. I borrowed one from my friend and it won't fit on it. Still trying to find one or just hunt down someone local that can do it for me. If the pusher costs more than a gun smith I might just go the gun smith route.

@@kgoldric amzn.to/3sAOYbP this is the sight pusher I have. It worked pretty good to fine tune my rear sight on the FN, and I am filming a video using it for my 1911 novak sight replacment as well. Its pretty decent, but you will want to clamp it down in a vice or I will be using a wood clamp on the side of my table for the DIY portion. It says for glock only, but its pretty simple to use for everything else. I did have to use a thin piece of wood on the side that was pushing for the adjustments.
The only downside is its lubricated with chineese gunk, so I highly recomment proper lubrication. Beyond that its a quality piece!

Awesome video. My question is that what didn’t it just come with a #8 sight? Or do some come with the correct sight height or some don’t?
It’s like Did FN not even QC or QA these guns during testing? They had to have known the sight was an issue.
Anyways thanks for this very informative video.

Any other way to measure the sight other than using a measuring caliper? I don’t have one unfortunately and that’s what Dawson website recommends. Thanks!

@@Slasherx28 are you shooting with the pinky extension on the short magazine? If so try replacing it with the flush fit before adjustment of the sights. Might get lucky and correct your issue.
If not, $10 on Amazon for a vernier caliper or $18 for a digital caliper.(Get the digital )
You will be shocked at how much and how often you use them! I use mine for all sorts of stuff now including measuring kydex thickness, sight heights, car nuts and bolts etc. Super handy device!
Also useful for measuring OAL of suspected ammo to ensure it's dimensionally correct. With 9mm it's less of a concern, but I also shoot some really oddball stuff and always very my ammo with those.
It's a tool you will use a lot honestly, I recommend everyone have one in the tool box. I can send you a link for one if you want. You don't need a fancy one, just a basic digital will do nicely.

Hey Byron. I used the caliper to measure. I’m getting 0.16 in. I’m measuring correctly according to Dawson’s spec (top of slide to top of height). I also watched a YT video on it to confirm I’m measuring it correctly and using the correct part of the tool (tail end measurement).
So mine appears even smaller than what you said in your video of ~.02. Any thoughts? Should I just go ahead and replace

      @ByronETAWheels  Před 2 měsíci +1

According to my calipers, the front dovetail is 0.207" so if the x ray front dovetail is the same, or slightly larger you should be good to go.
If it's slightly larger, you can just use a jewelers file and remove material from the new sight base until it's the correct width.

I am pretty disappointed overall with the Reflex for several reasons. The 15 rnd mags in black have been backordered nationally for months... Finally found some... resolved.
My hands are too big for a sub, and I'm shooting it low and left a bunch too. Bought suppressor height sights from Angry Bear Arms for a Sig P320. Will see if those help my aim. The plan was to red dot it.
My biggest complaint is the misfeed of the first round from a mag with a manual slide rack stovepipes consistently if I don't let the rack really slap. I had my sister do it and it jambed everytime, not aggressive enough.
The barrel feed ramp is really narrow, and the "matching" ramp in the magwell block is at a totally different angle. Compare this barrel to a Glock 9m. I'm gonna try to polish these ramps but really can't change the angle. Maybe someone will come out with an aftermarket barrel for it. In the meantime, I won't carry it.

    • @ByronETAWheels
      @ByronETAWheels  Před 6 měsíci

I agree with you on the small feed ramp, but mine is well polished. I have noticed the best overall results to be with hotter ammo in general. I haven't observed anything that has shown it to be a point of failure beyond the weird section that looks like a crack I found and documented in ETA #149. I'm still waiting on a response from FN about that.
If you are curious, I completely stripped the slide and frame in a few later videos. It will give you a solid idea of how it's built.
The low left was completely eliminated with the #8 rear sight replacement for myself.
I've tried several other micro compact pistols, and generally I don't care for them as I'd much rather carry a compact. They have their place, but I'd much rather carry my G48, 1911 or P-07 as they are significantly easier to shoot.
After about the 600 round count, my pistol was quite reliable, however every now and again it does choke on either the last round or the first round.
I've traced that to ammo quality, mine really seems to prefer 124gr NATO pressure loads, +p and similar.
Blaser brass for example tends to be a bit under powered for my gun, though it runs flawlessly in my other pistols.
I've had the best luck with American Eagle 124gr, Ammo Inc 124gr and the best one by far is Monarch ammo, which is excellent cheap ammo.
Fiocci 124gr was excellent as well.
I had the best luck with 0.306" tall sights. For Trijican Di series that's #8 height.
I really like the design of the pistol, but I rarely carry it as I greatly prefer compact size. I have however when required carried it with my dress clothes in a corporate setting, which is exactly what I bought it for.

Did you really say the FN Reflex is not an EDC gun??🤔hmmmm…also, has any gun invented ever not had a CZcamsr claim some level of problems?? Interesting review!

    • @ByronETAWheels
      @ByronETAWheels  Před 4 měsíci

I said I don't recommend it for a first gun, and I also said I prefer to carry a larger gun for daily and a smaller one situationally.
For example in dress attire, it's a decent choice if used as intended.
In jeans, polo, 511 slacks etc the G48 disappears just as easy.
I greatly prefer a compact such as the Girsan MCP35 Pi I'm currently working on the review of, my G48, P-07 or aluminum frame 1911.
A sub compact is in my opinion a compromise. Slightly worse ballistics, slightly more noise in doors, slightly harder to get back onto target.
I can shoot any of my compacts far faster, and with greater precision. Again what's important to me is often different for others.
And that difference is always awesome. It's a great pistol, but for me 90% of the time I prefer my hi power or G48.
But I would never recommend a sub compact to anyone as a first gun. Simply because of the trade offs.

I'm always learning and slowly getting better. If you check my newer stuff, I figured it out, but this was the best I was able to do with what little I knew as it was my first time editing something at that level.
It's not perfect but I believe it's very well done overall, and on a larger device such as a TV it looks phenomenal.
I really do appreciate fan feedback! And I will most assuredly get better as I go! Thank you for the insight.
