The Austin home was probably not selling, so paying two million dollar properties with 7% interest is just 10s of thousands per month down the drain. Must have been able to sell the Marbella home super quick. But super happy to see you and Maxx reunite :)

I kinda figured they would move at some point. they seem to get excited during the process but once the process is over and they've done everything they get bored. I'm honestly the same way but not with moving lol.

Nah, if you are a well-grounded person, it is actually very easy to believe. When they announced they were moving to Spain, I called it right then and there that they would be moving back to the U.S. in 2 years. I have many years of experience living overseas, and in a non-English speaking country, and without the breaks of being in a touristy area for English speakers such as Marbella. More people from more countries around the world move TO the U.S., than any other country in the world. The grass is not always greener on the other side, despite many that like to think that it is, and it doesn't matter if you are in Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, or Australia. Many more people are moving to the U.S. and not the other way around, and there are many reasons for it.
Also, his business is rooted in the U.S. and his current living situation is not congruent and doesn't reconcile with that. This is one of the lessons he is learning now.
@@__Paul__ I guess you might be right. Or, another reason might be that David can't sell his house in the US and it's taking it's Toll on finances. So he sold villa in Marbella instead. Just s theory from me.
@@MrSzczawik2121 If I am not mistaken, he already sold his last property in the U.S. back some time ago, but maybe he moved out but held on to it, or bought another place in the U.S. some time ago that I missed?? That is certainly possible. If he held a place in the U.S. that he bought before moving to Marbella, then that was a big mistake and should have unloaded it before moving to Marbella. If he has an unsold place back in the U.S., then your theory could be spot on, as that likely would put a strain on him, especially in the current, overall RE market in the U.S., as well as it unstoppable trajectory right now.
IF he has a property back in the U.S., and that is a property that he bought within the last couple of years, he still might consider selling it quickly (if he can) even though the market is getting tougher, pulling to the sideline and waiting at least another year or two, as the RE market is going take a major beating. Interest rates have been at historic lows for many years, and prices went up into another galaxy. The opposite happens to RE prices when interest rates increase, but most people don't talk about this economic reality.
As interest rates have finally started increasing, it has pushed millions of private buyers out of the market. This is the lull before the storm. Some have been talking about (wishing) that interest rates would go back down, but all indicators show that is very unlikely to happen, as the natural market corrections have not happened, and have not even started yet. The market will begin correcting itself, and prices will plummet, and smart money will be waiting on the sideline to pick up nice properties for much more reasonable prices that we have not seen in many years, due to the retardedly low interest rates for so many years, that many simply thought the rates were "normal". For many of those that bought houses within the last couple of years will be upside down on their mortgages. It has happened before, and we are poised for another cycle, so your theory is very reasonable.
I would also say that David and Julia have probably realized that they are too far away from both business and family. If they plan on having a child anytime in the next couple of years, then it doesn't make much sense to stay in Marbella. The only logical choice is moving back to the U.S., but it doesn't mean that they have to go back to Austin. While it offers comfort of familiarity to them, they left because they outgrew Austin. Outside of being closer to family and / or friends, and familiar places that they liked, within a few months they will be reminding themselves of why they moved in the first place.
There is a strong likelihood that they may go back to Austin (at least initially) to resettle, go through what I call "reverse culture shock", and then determine where they want to go next. Given that they like places that can offer new adventures, Austin, or anywhere else in TX is definitely not going to give them that. Plus, after you live in a specific city or state, and move abroad and live in a different country, and then come back, there will be a strong portion of your mind that tells you the last thing you want to do is to move back to the city or state that you left, as it will feel like you failed. It is part of human nature.
No matter how good your old friends are, they will not be the same as you remembered. When you left, they also moved on with their lives, but this dynamic will likely be less intense or more forgiving on them, since they did not live outside the U.S. for very long. However, reality is going to intensify, especially after they have had a taste of places like Marbella, which is nice, but is barely even scratching the surface.
They also like the ocean, love to travel, and have a sense of adventure, but have a strong pull now to at least be grounded in the U.S., I suspect that they might consider moving to the West Coast. Major cities up and down the West Coast are major international hubs, making international travel much easier when needed, plus it gives them options for numerous other places they have not visited, and while locally, having lots of entertainment, restaurants, and tons of very scenic, outdoor adventures, ocean views, lakes, mountains, and many other amenities that places like TX don't offer. We will just have to see, but I suspect that they will at least initially return to the comforts and familiarity of TX, but if they do, it will not take long for them to start getting very restless again.
It is all about finding a good balance, which they have not found yet, but based on their interests and sense of adventure, they are not going to find that balance living in TX. They need an area in the U.S. that is very different from TX, and big enough that there is enough entertainment and enough variety of things for them to do near their home base, and in a place that also provides a great jump off point for traveling internationally.

YEP! This is definitely part of it. There are additional elements as well.
Back on one of their videos around the time they were bailing out of the house build in Austin and were leaving, I commented to David that one of the big reasons for them bailing on Austin and moving to Spain, aside from the excitement of living overseas, was that they had simply outgrown Austin and Houston, and wanting something new, bigger, and more exciting. Although it can be fun and exciting to move outside the U.S. (I have done this myself and have lived in another country far longer than David & Julia likely ever will), I told him that having something bigger doesn't require them to leave the U.S., and very few people actually adapt to it well enough that they can live many years in another country, and the biggest exception to that is when people are moving TO the U.S. Huge difference.
At the end of the day, you have to live somewhere, and they have not been able to figure out where that is for very long. When they released their moving to Spain video, I called it right then and there that they will eventually move back to the U.S., and I gave them about 2 years max. With that level of accuracy at that moment, I could only do that from having enough personal experience and insight about living in other countries, and getting a decent understanding of where David and Julia were coming from.
I highly suspect that they will move back to TX, mainly to be closer to family, but for the most part, TX does not fuel their passions, entertainment, etc., although there were a few places in Austin they enjoyed. They have already been there and done that, and a few months after they move back to TX, and enjoy some of the things they missed, they will immediately be reminded of many of the reasons they left both Austin and Houston to begin with. That is why I suspect that they may initially go back to TX, but will likely move to a different area that can provide enough entertainment, things to do / new things to experience, and someplace that is near the coast.
I feel bad for Julia knowing how happy she was there and buying in to all the talk of building your dream home in a beautiful, peaceful place, only to hit the eject button again. 🤷🏻♂️

@@save325Move back to Spain in a year? NEVER gonna happen. He might go back there on vacation to visit, but he will never move back there. He had his time in coastal Spain, but he is done with it. The main thing that living is Spain facilitated was the quick and easy path it provided for them to visit many other places in Europe. THAT was the biggest benefit.

I knew this day was coming. Marbella doesn't seem to have much of a soul as a town, feels more like country club at least seeing it through the screen feels that way. Sure it's great to have a vacation villa there (which seems what most rich people do over there) but doesn't seem like a place to call home.
