    It took me over two years to score the music for the EP that this song is from. You don't think that takes time, dedication and some heart? Just because I choose to use a rather involved system to write doesn't mean there is no passion. I just got tired of using normal, typical scales that I had been using for years, and needed something else. I found it using 12 tone patterns. BTW, it's very common for those who are baffled by something that they don't understand to criticize it.

      Ron... U actually took time to reply to ass wholes who haven't done a thing in their entire spectre of their existence...
      You, Abassi, Marty Friedman, a few others.... Who think outside the box.. and present us with such jewels.... We are in gratitude and mind numbness.... Blotted science not exactly easy to even try, forget replication..... Is a treasure of the highest level of musicianship....
      I don't understand much of keys etc but this concept of tonality.... Gets me... And today... I just tried out one segment of the many.. and the bass has never sounded so bad ass till date.... I dropped a full step..
      D G C F.... Once I get a hang of it on four string.. I will transpose it to my five strings.. thank u for giving me new concepts to learn and understand... And evolve.... It's heavy... It's the dissonant me....

      Duuude. A man in your position should never feel the need to justify your musicality. Everyone has a different approach. Yours is ..inspiring. I mean to say, hearing your music and seeing how it was done has made me start composing again - with a fervor I thought was gone out of my life forever. One can make music any way they want, and to criticize another composer for their methods is just dumb. ..What are we supposed to all write the same way using the same scales, same progressions, same licks, same forms? That's top 40 territory and 99% of the time boring as fuck. The rest of the world wants variety and originality - something different.
      And your guitar playing (although I'm a classical guitarist) has made me want to become even more rhythmically accurate and precise. I've been using your apps System 2412 and A.C.T. 1 with my souped-up Ibanez 7 string and am having fun like I haven't since the year I got it when I was 12 or 13 to play Korn lol.
      I see all these shredders online, and although I looove the playing, I usually fall asleep at the note choices. Your approach takes quite mature ears to digest and once you get it, it's hard to go back to traditional everything-based-on-the-major-scale harmony. (Ironically, to use the apps, one needs to know all that stuff as well - it's NEXT LEVEL SHIT).
      Inspiring, inspiring, inspiring!!!

    Ron this shit is beyond nasty. The music conjures images and feelings that are borderline alien. Normal music makes me feel happy, sad, angry, excitement, lethargy. Your music makes me think and feel things completely differently. I think of microscopic bacteria and cells fighting in an unseen alien world hidden out of plain sight. I think of the asteroid belt and the chaotic yet predictable movement of the space rocks. I think of insects and the foreign way they live their lives. Your music is on such a strange and beautiful level. It really touches on fear, power, the unknown, and science...

    Ron, I just wanted to thank you for what you're doing. I mean it from the bottom of my heart. It's truly inspirational to see someone with such an unrelenting penchant for creative exploration following their deeper instincts; even if it means eschewing commercial success. These days, the works of countless musicians and artists are conditioned to such a degree by the trends of the mass media that they often end up reduced to petty commodities with the staying power of plastic cups or disposable razors. The sense of authenticity, devotion, and ingenuity apparent in your work is a ray of light in an otherwise dismal and cloudy sky. Keep on keeping on, my friend!

I finally have a guitar tuned like yours and this song is where I'm starting diving in to Blotted Science music. I remember watching this a long time ago, prior to going to school for music, thinking about how I didn't understand what was going on but it sounded fascinating. Now it all makes perfect sense. Thank you for the endless musical inspiration, Ron!

    Huge fan of Bobby Jarzombek here. Just want to say Bobby and his bro Ron are absolute masters... John Petrucci can't touch this guy in terms of music theory and execution. Used to be a big DT fan but good lord the Jarzombeks are on another level entirely. Such a privilege to watch both of them! As far as Ron's stuff, I'm familiar with this song from the Blotted Science album but the whole circular pattern of notes still blows my mind!

    What I like the most is that I still can hear fragments of "comfortable music" in this piece (a Cmaj7#4 here, a fragment of phrygian scale there), which contrasts with the full dodecaphonic parts. I like how we fly between comfortable and weird places in this song. Really inspiring composition, thanks for this!

I could never figure out how to flow from one riff to another riff when writing. Thank you!

    for example:
    Normal triad chords are not allowed.
    Scaleish movements are not allowed, which means you are not play D-C#-D or D-E-F#.
    Usually you would take 12, not 6 tones (as it is twelve tone technique). Dividing theese into smaller parts and rotate theese is allowed, as long as the row is finished before a new one starts.

I could say my 12 tones will be A-B-C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D-E but it will be the lowest A followed by B two octaves up then C above then D one octave below etc ...

      The Second Viennese School sounded like the art of time and place they came from: music that sounded like psychological dementia or expressing emotional, moody tragedy. This album is more playful (this particular song sounds the most 'dark' to me though).

    Maybe I got it wrong, but as far as i got it, while using the 12-tone system you're supposed to use bunch of tone rows, created from an original row, and never repeat a note until a certain row has been played through... What this guy is doing is great, but it still sounds way too coherent for being created using a strict 12-tone system...

    • @burninflames

    • @kyatzz
      @kyatzz Před 6 lety +7

      You are correct, he is using the 12-tone system non traditionally. For music (atleast in my opinion) thinking in terms of "you're supposed to" is limiting your creative thinking. He used the 12-tone system as a tool to create that very odd, gloomy atmosphere to perfectly match the moviescene he wrote the song for. Which I personally think is an awesome piece of music. Again though, this is just him explaining a bit of song structure, and by no means an example of traditional 12-tone composition.

    • @Spermwhales93
      @Spermwhales93 Před 6 lety +2

      What you're saying there is technically correct, but like all rules in music theory there are ways of bending or breaking them that sounds good. Jarzombek is bending the rules of the 12 tone system by not abiding to the you must not repeat any notes until the tone row is finished rule and by creating smaller sub-groupings of notes that give the illusion of the music having a tonal centre.
      The 12 tone system actually lends itself really well to metal because if you use the most "evil" sounding intervals it creates music that tonally sounds like metal but is a lot more chaotic in the note choices.

    • @thatdude3938
      @thatdude3938 Před 5 lety +2

      Ron's system has nothing to do with Schoenberg and he himself said about this. Schoenberg was member of serialist movement, in his use of 12-tone system you purposefully deprived from choosing or changing any notes after you created the row because of the reason that human mind unconsciously tends to create tonal centers - which Schoenberg tried to avoid to create true atonality. Ron's system is targeted more at using all notes and intervals to have more options and enrich sound

    My question is how do you arrive at the original sequence/12-tone key? For me, that is the hardest part. Any tips?

      Robert Minton make a random circle...then consider the groupings...after that im assuming how much you know about theory comes into play...each grouping has a multitude of ways to look at them...YOU are then responsible for making music with the groupings...id have to say that is the ultimate riff generator system as far as rolling the tonal dice....

    How do you decide what notes go where on the clock? Is it random? Do you have chord structure in mind? Thanks.

    @menteencoma Only in the sense that it's a 12 tone system, otherwise it has very little in common with Schoenberg's methods.

    normally, 12tone technique involves that you are not allowed to use any tone of your fixed 12 tone sequence before you didnt use each tone, so by repeting a certain phrase, he isnt using the 12 tone technique strictly speaking. However, it might be required to have some repitition in metal I agree
