Ron jarzombek actually built that guitar he is playing. he was my guitar teacher for 3 years. I didn't know his notoriety until years later. I thought he was just some dude that taught guitar lessons to kids.

They both play completely different music and aimed for different audiences. Marty is a melodic-rock/metal type-of player who's more focused on vibratos, dynamics, exotic phrasing and such. Jarzombek is a prog-metal type of player and more focused on free tonality, odd time signatures, 12-tone stuff. They're all great, all in their own incomparable ways.

I had the great honor of being Rons vocalist for a brief time and I must say, he is BEYOND talented. His creative skills are FAR above most other guitarists. Singing into the mic while he played guitar in the same project was always a dream of mine. It was worth it, even for a short time. He rules as a musician and especially as a human. Great guy.

It's a real travesty that Ron isn't more well known. He's not just the typical wanking shredder, he has a very unique approach and technique to the guitar. And his body of work from Watchtower to Spastic Ink, Blotted Science, Extraterrestrial Exiled, and his solo stuff is pretty impressive. Ron Jarzombek is in my top five favorite guitarists next to Randy Rhoads, Andy Larocque, Akira Takasaki, and Michael Romeo.

He knows I have always been a huge Megadeth fan so it was kinda funny when he sent me the link to the article saying that he was going to be Marty's guitarist. He was on stage with Marty trading off solos and obviously backing him up. His name is Ron Jarzombek..(you should look him up) that is my claim to fame :-) Great thing is he is just as nice as Marty. Yea, I'd have to agree. It's almost impossible to find someone who can master multiple styles enough to pull off killer improv especially when you go from what Ron does (Technical Metal not Jazz) to Blues. Blues is difficult because it gets its feeling from being "sloppy" (lack of a better word - no offense). I'd like to hear some play Jarzombek's material without ever practicing it...LMAO!

Vs Marty" video if you're already biased to begin with. Why not Ron and Marty jamming? Guitar playing isn't a competition and you don't need to instigate the feeble minded arguments of "guitar player A is better then B" by posting a vs video. Everyone has their own opinions because music is subjective I'm sure somewhere in the world someone would say Eric Clapton rapes them both and then would come up with an intelligent argument as to why that's true but it's not because it's about taste.

+serser1996529 You mean The Animation Of Entomology? Because that album is brilliant. There is a very complex 12-tone system behind it, and the time signatures are very odd and versatile because all of the songs are actually made as sync-ups to scenes in horror movies featuring bugs etc. Of course it's gonna sound chaotic and all over the place, but a lot of effort went into that music. +Whaleform It is a little disappointing, and I love Ron, but it should probably be put into perspective. Improv, especially bluesy improv, is not what Ron Jarzombek does. Jamming blues is a skill in and of itself, and Ron Jarzombek put his time and energy into other guitar pursuits. I appreciate that, because I believe the market is saturated by blues jammers. To put Ron in this scenario, would be like putting Michael Jordan on the White Sox (hehe). He's still a gifted and talented athlete, but he never could've shined in baseball like he did in basketball.

      Seriously People
I understand where you are coming from, and would have agreed once upon a time. But honestly we arent talking about a jazz standard here, its a simple jam in 1 key.. regardless of what you do in music, everyone should be able to express themselves comfortably (pros specifically) with such an easy base to work from.. He was just playing licks (not very clean either) and looked like he didnt belong..
Ron is ofcourse a force to be reckoned with, im just surprised but this display quite frankly..

It is a little surprising, yes. Make no mistake, though, the guy can get it done live. I've been privileged to be able to see his Rush tribute band (Exit Stage Left, San Antonio) many times. Now that is a hell of a band. Best guitar player, bass player, and drummer in town, hands down. The singer is quite good herself, but I'm sure she greatly appreciates having so much talent behind her. Not pushing my earlier point, but for those fans of Ron's playing who haven't had the chance to see him live, I can assure you that he absolutely NAILS rehearsed material on stage.

right on man im glad you enjoyed that show. I respect what you say for sure, im just coming at this from a different perspective i suppose.
i just saw marty live on his recent completed tour and he did that same progression to call up a random fan from the audience to jam with him in each show. some of the shows the guys picked did incredibly well, much better than ron.. just to add to the fact that it was a very basic plat form for him to express himself in terms of chord changes.
none the less RON rocks.. we all have bad days
      Peace

ron seems to be awesome at composing scales and composing ridiculous songs with his brother in spastic ink. but when it comes to playing live, his style just doesnt sound that great and yea marty is better. marty played with jason becker for gods sake

maybe. but there are different aspect of performing guitar. Like i said, ron is more cerebral and is probably better at dissecting and creating scales while marty plays more typical scales/patterns but also has a pretty unique style and sound to his solos. both great guitarists. not sure who i would say is better.

You are an idiot, Ron has played with Becker many times, is a really good friend of becker's and does guitar tutorials on Becker's behalf. Friedman left Becker a while back but when Jason Becker got ALS, Ron stayed by his side.

stupid fanboys, what has Ron possibly written thats good ? I have never seen his name anywhere else, I have never even heard his name spoken or never have I seen him on any list of top guitarists. Stop fanboying idiots

Because popularity always determines skill right? So some lists that name Kirt Hammet as one of the greatest guitarists is objectively accurate? Are Justin Bieber and Kanye West some of the greatest musical minds in human's existence? After all, everyone knows about them and they have huge followings.
What Ron's written that's memorable? Hm, I don't know, what about the Animation of Entomology? Very progressive and complex music merged with horror film music, is that not impressive at all? What about his solo albums? I'm sorry that your musical understanding is so limited that when talking about Friedman, you list songs like Rust in Peace even though the solo is nothing immensely outstanding. Sure, it's better than any solo Mustaine has written in the band, but speaking about Friedman, even in Megadeth he had better pieces, let alone what he did outside of Megadeth.
No wonder you can't appreciate the effort Ron is puting in his music, but you probably haven't given it a chance anyway.
