    For warning ⚠️ the crisis line will call 911 on you if they think you're a danger. Most police officers aren't trained to respond to mental health crisis, & could make this worse. It happened to me but I wasn't suicidal, I was just frustrated with the VA's lack of services. Thank goodness the police didn't arrest me "for my own good" like I've seen online. I'm not saying don't contact the crisis line, I'm just letting you know what may happen.

      @@Sgt-GravyI tried and got caught in the military trying to commit suicide but the military and then later, the VA threw me to the trash for over 20 years AFTERWARD. I tried several times per month for 5 years to do away withy life, unsuccessfully. Then it abruptly stopped.
      It took the VA 20 years, yes, that long, to even BEGIN attempting anything to help me. Even then, I reported a VA hospital director to VAOIG for causing the deaths of dozens of veterans and for changing my doctor's notes to keep me from getting awarded what I deserved.
      Instead of investigating her, the VAOIG shared my report with her and told her to "deal with me." She made an open threat in front of her entire office that she was going to m u r d e r me. Everyone heard it but only one person who worked in her office came to me to warn me about her death threat against me
      And sure enough, she tried to have me killed a month later by having a doctor she had under her thumb to try to stop my heart. It almost worked and I had to retire from working forever.
      It was 2 years after that when I told every lawyer and VA employee in every state I visited a VA hospital about that, the VA finally relented and awarded me my due pension.
      But they really put clamps on me and that's not fair.
      4 years after I got my pension, the primary doctor they stuck me with kept screwing with my tests for an increase (which I never did get) but he made his intentions and reasons very clear when he would call me a liar to my face in his office. So I recorded two visits of him calling me a liar. I reported him to the VAOIG and to the White House VA Hotline. The White House sent delegates to investigate my files and that doctor and they "locked me in" that the VA can never reduce or stop my current pension, though it can be increased. The banned and barred that doctor from ever having anything to do withe ever again, he's not allowed to contact me and he can never put any notes about me in my file, which he did for awhile after I fired him.
      The VA is filled with treacherous snakes and they cannot be trusted. Any time I hear of a veteran dying, I always ask myself what the VA has done or how they did it.
      Don't ever give the VA a reason to call 911 on you for self harm ideation because cops are not trained and they will do away with you to protect you from yourself. Just call the hotline or go in person. And be careful what you say.

    I am 100% P&T and when I had these thoughts quite a bit but I always lied and said I never had these thoughts because I was embarased about it and I even lied during my C&P exam and said I never had these thoughts because my wife was in the room and I didnt want her to know about this so it isnt a part of my VA rating but I also filed an SSDI claim and had to go through similar exams for the SSA and I wasnt expecting to have a mental health exam because I didnt put it in my claim but I did and this time my appointment was private with just me and the MD and this time when I was asked I finally talked to someone for the first time about this and it was one of the hardest topics I ever had to talk about and it turned a 30 minute appointment into a 2 hour appointment.

    Just so everyone knows and not misunderstanding and has their expectations set - suicidal ideation is SUPPOSED to be an indicator for "automatic 70 percent" but it is often not given. Take it from me. DBQ and notes mention suicidal ideation with suicidal box checked, but given 50%

      Ditto, and the HLR affirmed it without a good explanation. I had to file a very difficult supplemental to prevail, and of course then they dicked me on the effective date so it's still not over yet.

      @lifeboat52 Před 18 dny +1

      Ditto, and even the HLR botched it. It took a Supplemental to fix it, but then they screwed me on the effective date so its still under appeal. THIS is the kind of thing people should expect from the VA.

  • @lifeboat52
    @lifeboat52 Před 18 dny +1

    Good info but as several commenters have noted it is very far from an automatic 70% in real world experience. The VA can and does ignore its own rules, regulations and case law. I encourage anyone pursuing an MH claim to read up on Bankhead v. Shulkin (2017). It's a CAVC case that educated the VA on what they were doing wrong in evaluating SI under the 70% criteria. I received my initial rating in 2021, four years after Bankhead. Yet the C&P examiner, the initial rater, and whoever handled my HLR must have been utterly ignorant of this case and its guidelines (unfortunately I was too!). If they did know about it then they failed to give a veteran the benefit of the doubt as required. It took a very difficult and detailed Supplemental to get them to do the right thing. Today, seven years after Bankhead the M21 Manual still makes no mention of the case or its guidelines. This suggests to me that they are still ignorant and continue to get this wrong.

    The VA rejected my claim as not being service connected although I was diagnosed with MDD with SI...true my service records don's show anything because I was trained to suck it up and stay focused which I did and the wheels didn't come off my bus until after my retirement...so I am disposable according to the VA.

      You have to keep going back over and over again until everyone gets to know you on a first name basis. You can be in the greatest pain in the world, go in to one, two or a few appointments and it’s not going away. Eventually you’ll figure out who you need to talk to and how to get through the system. Granted it’s harder to get there when your life is falling apart and the process is taking forever.

    I tried to get VA a Disability for PTSD. My civilian doctor and I talked about PTSD. After our conversation he said, "you have PTSD, go see the VA." I tried and all I got was a woman who asked a few questions and that was about it. NO Disability Rating. It was about what I expected. My PTSD started when we had a fire on our ship. I could have rescued three of men, but I was fairly new on the ship and didn't know where the fire was--it was almost under my feet. After watching what my daughter went through I gave up on any help. She was in the Army Reserve and spent a year in Iraq. A Marine truck broke down and she had to crawl under it to fix it. One of the Marines took a 50cal and murdered a goat herder, his herd of goats, and his donkey on a dare. She made the mistake of reporting this to her CO. She was shunned by her unit and didn't even get a Combat Action Ribbon. It took her over four years to get a 40% disability rating after she got home. She spend 14 years in the Army and left as soon as her last enlistment was up. If we don't care of our people we shouldn't send anyone to war.
