If we're being technical here, Jen doesn't have monolids. The creases on her eyelids are quite hooded so you can't see them when she draws her eyeliner so thickly. They would be clearly visible if she were wearing no makeup on her eyes. Let us not equate monolid to East Asian, when many East Asians naturally DO have visible folds on their eyelids.
nanamilucia123 Jen's eyelids, as reference, are hooded, since there is some sort of fold. I don't think you need a prominent browbone to have them. There are varying degrees to the "hoodedness", but they are hooded nonetheless. But hey, you can call yours the way you want! :)
I get what you're saying, I have the same kind too, and yes it visually looks like a monolid. But I've been calling them hooded, since there's a hood folds over the rest of the lid. Besides, monolid eye makeup does not apply to me because a true monolid is a flat canvas where your eyeshadow/liner shows when your eyes are open. If I do the same and open my eyes, everything hides under the hood and it makes it seem like I'm not wearing any eye makeup.

If an eyelid fold exists on your eyelid, you have double eyelids. Jen does not have monolids, she just has really hooded eyes. Not sure why they lumped Jen here, cuz her problem isn't the fact that she doesn't have a crease--her problem is the fact that her hooded folds eat up her eyeliner.
Nah we call it the double monolid. I have that too. A true double eyelid is a full eyelid that folds in a completely different place. I know it's confusing but when asians refer to double eyelid they mean the fuller eyelid that creases right below the brow bone.
I'm that one person that wishes i had monolids ;-; they are so pretty and attractive!! i have really, REALLY big eyes to the point i just see no point in wearing eye make up beyond just mascara because my eye opens and the eyeliner rubs on the top, right under my eyebrow which makes it look weird when i close my eyes. And if that happens, if i put on eyeshadow, you won't even see it cause my eyes are so wide. But with monolids, it's like a canvas and you can make such pretty colors of eyeshadow and make cute eyeliner things and all!!! unlike me ;-; Update: Ok, i did not expect to get so many comments on this. I feel like they were set up to fail. They weren't given the correct tools. Yeah the women in the video didn't get proper brushes but I find this video refreshing and would recommend if people didn't get double eyelid surgery, just like I'd tell my black girls to not bleach their skin. Girls! try to use very thin eyeliner pencil to draw a line inside of you eyelashes then extend it to the corners. It's super natural and makes your eyes look more dominate. I have thin hooded eyelids, it works for me.
They could always try eyelid tape or glue which makes a faux crease temporarily if the monolid thing bothers them. Personally I think monolids are really cute.
i have eyes like jen. after years of trying to find the perfect eyeliner for my eyes instead of filling the entire eyelid with eyeliner which will looks funny when i close my eyes, i finally found it. now i'm learning to love my eyes. hope you all learn to love how you look as well. xx
No makeup tutorial is ever perfect. It really differs from person to person but I damn I never thought about how much more different it would be for people with mono-lids. There really needs to be more diversity with makeup youtubers.

I see comments of people saying that their makeup was bad, but honestly, I think some of them did quite well. I mean, I would count it as a win if I was able to do it like them-especially Maggie and Lauren's floating eyeliner and highlight colour thing. I'm horrid at makeup so that's probably just me.
i hated my monolids for the longest time but that's because so many makeup tutorials out there are for double eyelids. after playing around with makeup, i've learnt to embrace and love my monolids.
That last one isn't perfect but really does help. I do it all the time; creating a false crease with eyeshadow in combination with wearing false lashes can really emphasize the illusion of a crease. The color hack looks cute; I'll be trying it!!

as someone who has monolids, I've struggled with the application of makeup for years. Seeing other girls being able to do beautiful cut creases and other fancy looks, i was always jealous. But if you really take time, and sit down and just study your personal eye shape and play around with the position of colors and seriously BLEND, sometimes you'll end up having better makeup then someone with a crease. You can make a "fake" crease with a dark brown eyeshadow, you can put a cool glittery eyeshadow on your lid, and its like a fun surprise when you close your eyes because people usually wouldn't see it. There are so may possibilities its just the matter of if you have time to actually find out what works for you :)
The floating eyeliner trick would slay me if you filled in the lash line with some pop of color. So like when you look straight you only see a bangin wing but when you look down, BAM colour cityyy
I personally think a lot of these actually work. I used these techniques before, just that it takes time to practice. Not being use to the technique definitely added to why some looks didn't really work on them.
monolid friends! everybody's eyes are different but i find winging out eyeliner helps w it showing up better. as for eyeshadow, i like the vertical gradient as well but what works really nicely is a shimmer on the part of your lid that hides when you open your eyes, and darker colors on the outer corners
Ya'll should try tightlining! It's where you put the eyeliner *underneath* and between your lashes, instead of above. (Takes a bit getting used to because you "lift up" your eyelid.) I find it works best with a cream or gel liner, using a fine-tip brush. Then I blink very gently to get a little transfer on my bottom waterline. Tightlining also looks very natural.
Not gonna lie... I'm only here because of Jen. She is legit my absolute favorite person in the world. Right now, I'm binge watching all of Jen's videos....

There's a monolid hack/tip that includes false lashes. The natural crease fold that the monolid makes, you align the base of the fake lash against it and apply it there instead of applying really close to your real lash line. The areas where there is no makeup, you fill it in with black eyeliner or whatever you like. ❤ I learned this trick from a video and its from a channel called "Molly Dynasee". 😊
I am commenting on this so late but as a girl with monolids, gel eyeliners are so much easier to use and create a better look. Especially the brown colored ones so the eyeline does not look that thick and plus you can smudge it a bit before it dries out to create a smokier look. It's just easier to work with and looks more natural :)

Girls! try to use very thin eyeliner pencil to draw a line inside of you eyelashes then extend it to the corners. It's super natural and makes your eyes look more dominate. I have thin hooded eyelids, it works for me.

I'm black with a monolid, My mom also has mono. My dad has a slight double but not drastic. My friend who's white has a half mono half hooded eyelid.

They could always try eyelid tape or glue which makes a faux crease temporarily if the monolid thing bothers them. Personally I think monolids are really cute.

No makeup tutorial is ever perfect. It really differs from person to person but I damn I never thought about how much more different it would be for people with mono-lids. There really needs to be more diversity with makeup youtubers.

I see comments of people saying that their makeup was bad, but honestly, I think some of them did quite well. I mean, I would count it as a win if I was able to do it like them-especially Maggie and Lauren's floating eyeliner and highlight colour thing.
I'm horrid at makeup so that's probably just me.

i hated my monolids for the longest time but that's because so many makeup tutorials out there are for double eyelids. after playing around with makeup, i've learnt to embrace and love my monolids.

it's not that the tricks are bad, they just can't do makeup that well
That last one isn't perfect but really does help. I do it all the time; creating a false crease with eyeshadow in combination with wearing false lashes can really emphasize the illusion of a crease. The color hack looks cute; I'll be trying it!!

as someone who has monolids, I've struggled with the application of makeup for years. Seeing other girls being able to do beautiful cut creases and other fancy looks, i was always jealous. But if you really take time, and sit down and just study your personal eye shape and play around with the position of colors and seriously BLEND, sometimes you'll end up having better makeup then someone with a crease. You can make a "fake" crease with a dark brown eyeshadow, you can put a cool glittery eyeshadow on your lid, and its like a fun surprise when you close your eyes because people usually wouldn't see it. There are so may possibilities its just the matter of if you have time to actually find out what works for you :)
The floating eyeliner trick would slay me if you filled in the lash line with some pop of color. So like when you look straight you only see a bangin wing but when you look down, BAM colour cityyy
I personally think a lot of these actually work. I used these techniques before, just that it takes time to practice.
Not being use to the technique definitely added to why some looks didn't really work on them.
monolid friends! everybody's eyes are different but i find winging out eyeliner helps w it showing up better. as for eyeshadow, i like the vertical gradient as well but what works really nicely is a shimmer on the part of your lid that hides when you open your eyes, and darker colors on the outer corners
Ya'll should try tightlining! It's where you put the eyeliner *underneath* and between your lashes, instead of above. (Takes a bit getting used to because you "lift up" your eyelid.) I find it works best with a cream or gel liner, using a fine-tip brush. Then I blink very gently to get a little transfer on my bottom waterline. Tightlining also looks very natural.

It's interesting what other people have to go through and little things you take for granted. I think monolids are beautiful but I never thought about how something like putting on eyeliner could be so frustrating
There's a monolid hack/tip that includes false lashes. The natural crease fold that the monolid makes, you align the base of the fake lash against it and apply it there instead of applying really close to your real lash line. The areas where there is no makeup, you fill it in with black eyeliner or whatever you like. ❤

I am commenting on this so late but as a girl with monolids, gel eyeliners are so much easier to use and create a better look. Especially the brown colored ones so the eyeline does not look that thick and plus you can smudge it a bit before it dries out to create a smokier look. It's just easier to work with and looks more natural :)

The struggle of learning how to do eye make up was a real struggle with having monolids. Last year I settled with the vertical gradient technique simply by trial and error
