Woman Learns to Sew to Make Grandmother’s Fashion Designs

- Julia is taking her grandmother’s fashion sketches from the 1940s and sewing the designs herself. It took about two months to make one gold ballgown, which is getting a lot of attention on her TikTok account. “She was really proud and excited that I completed it,” Julia told Inside Edition Digital. She learned how to sew entirely for this project. “In the sixth grade, I made an alphabet letter pillow in home ec. But except for that brief stint ... I have no professional training,” she said.
I love that they respected her wishes to not be shown face wise. She wants no fame off of anything other than her designs. This is just wholesome all the way around.
Thank you 🥰💕

It's such a sweet story.. I'm a costume designer and I think her work is beautiful
Costume design is such an underrated job. I'd love to learn all the history of clothing while working to recreate old garments. ❤
What costumes do u make any animals and do u make costumes for dogs
@@DogLover1718 this is so funny to me 💀💀
Thank you 🥰

I hope she wears her outfits out and flaunts them proud. Her and her grandmother make for a great fashion design team. Nana had some great and classy ideas brewing in her head back then and to see them come to life now is even better.
she wears her gmas clothes very often! she has a tiktok where she makes outfits out of her gmas old clothes❤️ its super sweet
@@Rachel-wn8xi That's so beautiful! They're both blessings to the world for sharing this with us.

It's obvious that amazing talent runs in the family and was passed down. I can't sew the holes in my dog's toys, without it looking like I had a seizure during the process.

What a lovely way to honor her grandmother's talents! Side note: A lot of kids discovered a knack and a love for sewing in those old home ec classes. I thought they had been phased out of the curriculum of most schools years ago. A hobby that can pay for itself. Everybody needs a creative outlet.

i want to see a fancy ball dedicated to her
Yes! It could be called Legacy or Memoria .
I would love to see this too!

Omg! She needs a "Grandkid of the year" award or something. 💝
If this story catches the eye of a fashion designer who wants to make the rest of her sketches come to life that would be so awesome, but there was something really special about her Granddaughter helping to make Grandma's wishes come true and tons of memories that she will carry throughout her lifetime (of them working together) after Grandma is gone.
Llama la atención 💯❤️🇦🇷
I would love to see her do more training with sewing because it looks pretty damn good for having not much sewing experience.
Thank you 💕

@SaulGoodmanOfficial that's really disrespectful. if you have a problem, use your words without being quirky.
@haley callaghan just ignore it. “He” is commenting the same thing everywhere. Saul is just a neutered, tiresome troll. You have a great day, though!
@monstermcboo7282 oh I see, I should have known lol 😆 you too!
The icing on the cake would be to organise a fashion show with models wearing all the designs once she’s made them all! I can’t imagine waiting for all those years to finally see your visions come to life
The icing to that would be to sell patterns! I love them!!
You made your grandma’s dream come true and she’s so proud of you
Need more stories like this inside edition.

The gold one literally looks nothing like the beautiful first sketch, but it’s the taught that counts
Thought * that counts
That is sooo sweet! What awesome memories shes making with her grandma!
It sounds like for one reason or another, her grandmother had to give up her dreams of fashion designing. It must have been the most wonderful feeling to see that forgotten dream be brought back to life by her granddaughter.
Her sew work doesn't look exactly like her grandmother's sketches but I appreciate her effort. I bet her grandmother felt touched and remembered her passion.
0:24 that’s an awesome dress idea. Looks very elegant
That's beautiful...
Bringing her grandmother's ideas to life and showing them to her while she is still alive and kicking...
I think I cried...
Beautiful story! Very touching. Look what love did. For the love of her grandma she found out she had a natural gift and talent. Win win!
Wow. Such a touching, personal way to honor her grandmother. What joy her grandmother must have felt to see her designs come to life -- and by her own granddaughter after all those years. This is such a wonderful, inspiring story. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
I love this, my Grandma gave me my first sewing machine. She was the inspiration behind my company name. ♥️
My grandma taught me so much of my crafting stuff. (Sewing, knitting, crocheting scrapbooking)
@@brianaschmidt910 yess!! Nothing like a Grandma♥️ I miss her so very much
Edit: my Great Grandmothers maiden name was Schmidt ☺️
What a thing to bond over, the dresses and designs can be passed down along with their story 🥰
That gold dress that turns into a short dress is awesome, in white for a bride that would be so fun. Take the skirt off during the first dance .
Such a wholesome story that we needed today. It’s so refreshing watching this ❤️
I taught myself how to sew about 14 years ago for cosplay, but have since moved on to historical fashion. My grandad passed late last year, and my grandmother has been diagnosed with dementia and schizophrenia for a while, so she doesn't even recall who I am. I think about her when I'm sewing sometimes, because she had an antique edwardian sewing machine that I was fascinated by as a child. I'm not someone who has ever wanted children, but I love to see stories like this where one older family member passes a talent or a part of their past down to a younger member. It would be cool if a designer discovered this video and wanted to collaborate with them to make the other designs :)
the pink dress with the blue jacket is everything. Can't wait to see that has a design.
She could sell these patterns on etsy and I would happily buy them all! All of them fit my style very closely.
0:07 This is beautiful! I loved when grandma said “do another twirl!”
Same such a beautiful moment

What a wonderful ide! This young woman has no idea how precious this will become for her in later years!
I hope my grandbabies grow up to be as loving and wonderful as her. She is just too precious!🥰😭
When women dress classy, love it!
Such a great story and inspirational one. I love that she took the time to learn how to sew to make the dresses
from the sketches her grandmother did years ago. Truly awesome.
The first dress had a "Disney Princess" feel to it!
🤗👗👑
Like others have commented, would be great if a fashion designer was able to fabricate her grandmother's designs as a collection, and enable others to wear these dresses. Am sure given the background story, they would do well, and provide both the grandmother and granddaughter extra money.
Hope to see or hear a follow-up to this story in the future? 🤔
This is very sweet and a great way to bond!
I can imagine the pride and joy her grandmother feels. What a beautiful tribute to her grandma.
That’s so sweet! what beautiful memories:)
What a sweet thing to do to connect with her grandma.
The dresses did turned out beautiful, but they didn’t really look like the sketches. They weren’t the same color or shape. Exactly. I mean I would’ve made it look like a replica I would think.
This is so beautiful. Its so nice to see young people honor their grandparents and understand what a gift it is to have them around
That's so sweet. I'm glad she and her grandma got that opportunity.
Having connection with your grandparents is one of the best
What a sweet grand-daughter - God Bless!
She's sooooo sweet! What a lucky Grandmother to have a Grand-daughter like her
That's some talent she got from her grandmother alright ❤️❤️❤️
I watched her content is really good she even fixed her grandmothers wedding dress to use for her own wedding
Thank you 🥰
Can we talk about how beautiful she looks 👌
Maybe some of the celebrities can use her design for the next met gala, etc. That would be awesome 👌
To wear something that was designed by or made by family is the biggest way to show love.
Bless you and your grandma!!
It seems like the grandmother is in witness protection or something.
Wow beautiful and I like the connection the girl has with grandma.

Beautiful dresses especially the long pink gown. Wow!!
God Bless you Julia, what a wonderful way to honor your Grandmother. 🥰🤗
This is such a heartwarming story
This makes me so emotional. I went to fashion design school and had to drop out. I loved it so much. To be able to see any of my sketches come to life would be a dream. I’m definitely going to start making my clothes this year. I’m so inspired. What a beautiful bond between these two ladies.🥲❤️
