- Dublin, Ireland is a popular cruise ship destination. But there are some time challenges to consider, especially since this is a tender port. We explore the path to getting around Dublin: tender port, train, and Hop On Hop Off Bus. We had a blast!
Here at the Port Lowdown, we aim to create informative and entertaining videos about cruise port docks and ports-of-call for independent-minded travelers on a budget, who are looking for things “outside the usual”.

Rush and unforgettable trip ❤!
It was! The pub was great and the views along the city terrific!
thank you, this so informative, we will be cruising to Ireland in 2 wks. so glad I came across you video. Didn't realize you have to grab a tender in order to get to shore.
Yes, we did. That said, we really enjoyed our short time there. On your schedule, it should indicate if you're using a tender or not. If you're not interested in the hoho bus, Trinity College is right near the train station and a good place to start. Hope you have an awesome trip! 👌
Excellent advise so happy your video was recommended by another cruiser!
It's always great to hear that! Thanks so much! We love travel, so we want to showcase stuff that gets overlooked when doing crusing. That's the crux, you know. Too little time. It's always a frustration for me, but it's something I kinda live with. Still, crusing is pretty efficient at sampling a bunch of places quickly and return to your room on the ship. Best to you!
Thank you for the info on restroom! Always appreciate this
No problem!
Or take a smaller ship like those of Azamara . 700 passengers and the ships dock in downtown Dublin. Azamara overnights in Dublin.
That would indeed be awesome. Is that line expensive?

It’s relative. They aren’t budget but they aren’t Regent 7 Seas. Oceania might be a comparison. Beauty of Azamara is they are country intensive. Longer port stays and overnights are why we cruise them. There’s a casual elegance about it and no “nickel n diming”
Wow, that was just perfect because we're taking that same cruise. We wondered how long we might have to sit if we didn't book through Princess. So now we may need to consider all our options. Thanks so much, your video was quite helpful.
Sometimes a tour from the ship is worth the extra money. This is one case where that might apply. It all comes down to your time, and if you plan on coming back. Although we prefer DIY, it's not always possible or preferable.
And you're welcome. Thanks for watching and I'm glad it helped!
dun dreary as its also known, a bleak old town with not much going on
Very helpful; thank you. Do you remember how much the hop on bus costs?
Hello!
It's 32 euro for adults, 12 for children and 30 for students and seniors. Here's a link:

Best to you!
We're doing a British Isles cruise in 2025. Your videos have been extremely helpful! Thank you!
Thank you so much! We love Dublin and want to come back someday. Have a blast!
Wow, this does sound complicated. Do you think Dublin is best done through cruise excursion?
Dublin would be better as a land-based trip, frankly. That said, it's worth the trip to explore for a few hours. For my wife and I, it gives us a taste of the city, to see if we want to come back. For Dublin, definitely.
Great video. What month did you visit? It looks cold.
Actually, it was mid June. It was pretty chilly!
We just booked the same cruise but in August. Hope it’s warmer.
I would hope so, too. At any rate, pack for rain. It comes and goes quickly down there!
er.....you went to the wrong place!!!!!
You should have stayed in Dun Laoghaire and gone to Dalkey and Killiney.... 5 mins by train
The most gorgeous part of Ireland.........
I should know...I was born there....
