Howdy Brother Duke- good planting tip. Love them turnips, too. When I was a little boy I’d get to spend the day with my Grandmother and seems like she always had some turnips cooked for dinner time. I learned to love em at an early age. Some people like the greens and not the turnips and the other way around, but I like em both. Lord’s blessings to y’all
Yes Sir Bro. Paul...planting this way sure makes it easier when harvesting....I like em raw too...I usually peel the big ones...make a salad taste good Lord's blessings
I'm the Captain and I call it a diggin fork ;-) grew 3 times the greens with the spacing close together...it makes them easy to harvest when they are close...not that good at relating what I'm trying to say. Thanks for the blessing Nikki
Thanks for the video. We tried a later fall garden this year and mostly just scattered turnip seeds in some tilled up soil. Got a big ole' bag of seeds for real cheap at the Co-op and then got too eager throwing out the little seeds. Let's just say those seeds were bumping into each other on the ground. We have over half the big bag of seeds left for next year, so not much effort was put into this crop. It's like a pretty, green carpet out there. After watching your video, I guess we'll have more greens than roots this time, but no worries, the Lord is blessing us!
Ya got me interested in planting turnips next year. Thanks for the videos on them. I always like to try growing things I haven’t done before. God bless and stay safe
Thanks MC...I would be happy for you to take them...what my chickens don't eat will go into the ground. I was able to harvest a lot more greens using this method.... Lord's Blessings
A wealth of knowledge there. Im itching to do another garden. I just havent had the time to invest into it properly and I had issues with the last few times I had one.
Very nice harvest brother Duke. Looking at where you and your daughter harvested, what a week ago, looked like you could have done another batch if you wanted. You and the family will be eating well and also the chickens. Can't remember if turnip greens are good for rabbits. Thanks for sharing your methods. Love and blessings to you and your family.
I watched your beet video...good looking beets too. Its turned warm here and I probably will have to cook and freeze my turnips...the small ones are turning soft....Thanks
We roast them, grate into salads, several ways but I like them the best in cabbage soup... they help to thicken the soup a little, make it taste better than using potatoes...Lord's Blessings
nice looking turnips. about to plant our turnips for fall. definitely made the mistake of planting too densely before, will give them some more space this year. thanks for the video, God bless.
Its all organic, I let the chickens run on it in the winter and clean the coop out once a year. Other than that I add rabbit manure, worm castings, and composted leaves. Thanks an good to hear from you Billy

Thanks Duke! Nice mess of turnips there....nice mess of leaves in that trailer too :)
Yes Sir...I could not have got the green harvest I wanted if I had not used a tight spacing. Thanks for watching and commenting William

When broadcasting turnips seeds mix the seeds with some dry sand. Spreading sand with seeds in it makes it easier to space the seeds further apart.
@@oldtimerlee8820 Thanks! That's a great idea.
Amen Joe...I've seen them planted like that but I think they are easier to harvest in a row....Thanks
Ya got me interested in planting turnips next year. Thanks for the videos on them. I always like to try growing things I haven’t done before. God bless and stay safe
they are easy to grow...the root grows the most toward the end...Blessings Ketch
Thank you ...now I get it...the spacing on the turnips....I was planting seeds too close together.. good greens, but puny turnips.
yes...they can stay in the ground a long time and eat the ones you thin out...Thank you
Thanks, Duke. I wish I lived closer. I’d take some of those greens off your hands. Both of them served their purposes. Excellent job!!👍
Thanks MC...I would be happy for you to take them...what my chickens don't eat will go into the ground. I was able to harvest a lot more greens using this method.... Lord's Blessings

Hey Bro. Jim the rabbits and chickens don't like them much...maybe cause they are prickly...but yeah, we could harvest some more greens.
Good information. Thanks Duke
appreciate you Calvin
Thank you!

Nice job Duke I sell a lot of purple top turnips. I like them in soup and with mashed potatoes. I have never stored them. I store beets in saw dust.
I watched your beet video...good looking beets too. Its turned warm here and I probably will have to cook and freeze my turnips...the small ones are turning soft....Thanks
well cared for for sure.
Thanks Howard Hope you are doing good
Spacing definitely made a big difference in the end result. How are you gonna cook and season those turnips?
We roast them, grate into salads, several ways but I like them the best in cabbage soup... they help to thicken the soup a little, make it taste better than using potatoes...Lord's Blessings
Hasil menanam yang sangat luarbiasa..👍

Attaboy!! Two thumbs up!
Nice Harvest! Look forward to seeing how you store them in sawdust! Great Job Duke!! Love that Southern Weather, Looks like spring time!
the weather has been real good lately...I'm boxing em up tomorrow and a video later on Thanks Bro. David
Do you fertilize those with bone meal? I did that before I planted my potatoes and it seems like it really helped them.
no bone meal but all the fish remains go into the compost and end up in the garden
Whats your soil mixture for your turnips
Its all organic, I let the chickens run on it in the winter and clean the coop out once a year. Other than that I add rabbit manure, worm castings, and composted leaves. Thanks an good to hear from you Billy
