    Hi, thanks for stopping by!
    To miss my nattering, go to 6.38 for footage of the bag 👍
    I took the plunge and decided to Down size my Ruck Sack!!
    I still love and will keep my Osprey Rook 65L, however with at long last a long hike & scramble with wildcamp trip approaching - I needed something a bit smaller.
    After much deliberation I decided on the Forclaz Mountain Treck 100 50L bag purchased from Decathlon.
    Take look at it with me as I show you some of the features on this ruck sack.
    A couple of quotes about Decathlon & Forclaz on the video I hasten to add are courtesy of Wikipedia, so how true, perhaps enlighten me!
    A full list of dimensions is near the end of the video - you will need to pause to read fully.
    However probably easier to follow this link directly to the said bag!
    www.decathlon....
    I emphasize I do not work for Decathlon, and am not on any commision deal whatsoever. Indeed if I use this bag for the first time and it falls apart, I will soon let you all know!!
    If you would like to support my channel, please buy me a coffee!
    Would be genuinely appreciated!

    Thanks again for stopping by - please look out for my next video when I actually use this ruck sack on it's first outing!
    All the best
    Adam

    Without a doubt the best review I've seen on this pack, and mate you didn't say a word but explained everything. One of the biggest problems with so many of the Decathlon reviews is language, but as I said, you said it all without saying a thing, and you also packed your actual camping gear ripper review and so bloody well organised. Mate this was 2 thumbs up and 10 out of 10.

      WOW! One - sincere apologies for taking so long to even acknowledge this fascinating story. And Two, again, wow. The irony being I actually work as a Paramedic, so am aware of the importance of time-critical situations, such as you describe. However, thankfully, hiking along the Pennine Way in the UK I am not aware of any Papuan Black snakes awaiting to snap at our legs - At least I hope not! But I absolutely take your point at First aid kits being easily accessible. Always amazed at the number of people that do not even carry first aid kits at all! A slip or a stumble can happen on the most local of dog walks! (But no I don't carry a first aid kit when I walk my dogs either!)
      Anyway Col, thanks for your fascinating story - and for watching my video. Once again sincere apologies for the delay in even acknowledging it - Just on occasions messages get posted that - slip through the net so to speak - and this one did.
      All the very best to you & regards

As a frenchMan, I am delighted to see how the brand is increasingly recognized for its quality equipment at reasonable prices, all around the world . ( have a look on the ESCAPE 500 BAGPACK) Honestly the treck 100 this bag is a bang ! 70 € here .. 1/2 of an osprey or deuter bagpack , with maybe a little bit less of confort. I got it two days ago, went for camping yesterday with it, jsut got home as I had to go to MRI scan but backpack is just giving me more and more trust in it. I loaded 18kg and it kept great, nothing loose, it feels great, no backpain although I didn't hike for years and I had a big steep hills yesterday to hike over. 5 miles hike but I would notice something already. Padding is just I like it, not too soft or firm and flexible. Adjusting it is easy as it can be. Everuthing is just so good I can't believe. My main concerne was a big zipp in front but it is sturdy af. Side pockets are great. Had a bigger sleeping bag and a mat and still has space in bottom compartment for a pillow and ultralight jacket. Pocket on a side I use for holding peperspray and one on a chest straps. I didn't have trekking poles but tent poles attached to designated place and kept them firm and not loose at all. I was testing big tent for a car travel so I mounted other part on a top and didn't throw me off balanve at all. Bottle pocket is something game changing, so so so easy to reach for bottlle, no shoulder cramps. 10/10 honestly, for that much money and what you got and how it performs

    Hey man great review, thanks for putting it together. One question I'd have now that you probably used it even more is : how reliable is that main zipper in terms of durability? I never used a system like this before and am concerned it might eventually fail during a hike leaving the bag useless to old my stuff. Esp due to the fact it can also be zipped from the bottom up.

    • @justgetoutthereguy
      @justgetoutthereguy  Před 2 lety +3

      Fair question and a worry I have had, but just went with the risk. I clarify it is not a heavy duty zip, so it is a genuine concern that it might one day fail - consequently I just use the zipper carefully - and although I have not used it as much as I would have liked, up until now, I have had no problems. The design of the pack is just so appealing with the ease of access, I am willing to take that risk! Footnote. If on a long trip I would possibly ensure I had a belt or strap... (Just in case!) I hope this helps thanks for watching 👍 Adam

    Great review. I am really interested in the Rook 50 for my first backpack, as osprey’s antigravity system seems really good. I wondered if you missed it when you moved away from your rook 65 or if it’s a bit of a gimmick? Ideally I would of liked a pack with a bit more features, like deep side pockets, a stuff pouch on the front of the bag etc, so just checking alternatives before I pull the trigger.

    • @justgetoutthereguy
      @justgetoutthereguy  Před 2 lety

      Hey thank you. I still use my Rook, just when the load dictates - & when I do I really appreciate the comfort and feel of the Osprey. The 50 would be a great choice - however I really do like this Track pack, for the ease of access & pockets etc - but guessing for longer more demanding hikes - the Rook deffo has it for comfort - guess it's down to the wallet really...! good luck with your choice - regards Adam 😀

    I like the 70 litre one......but can't justify it at the moment. Superb value. Thats a nice little "review", thank you. The only slight concern I might have would be with that otherwise excellent back zip. It needs some sort of flap, and/or a tensioning strap across ??

    Do you suggest this one instead of the classic mh-500? I prefer this one of the video at a first view, but I don't understand why it looks more complete and it cost less 🙄🙄😅 what I am missing?

    That central zip makes me nervous. That thing faulters or gets caught mid trip, shits going everywhere & no "fail safe".

      @foxtonstreet Před 3 lety

      If it does, you can wrap some paracord tight around to hold everything in place. Has a 10 yr warrantee so I think zip failure would be refund or replace.

    I want a backpack for a 2-4 days hiking trips and I have the Salewa Denali II 2 tent(Pack Dimensions: 47 x 20 x 14cm). Osprey Talon 42L(69x 31x 27cm) is fine for me, but due to the cost I find that one as a very good option. But and the dimensions of Forclaz trek 100 50L, are 58 x 26 x 26 cm and I'm not sure that it will work for me. On the other hand Osprey's backpack is 6 liters smaller than this one, so Forclaz will meet me requirements. What is your advice?

    • @justgetoutthereguy
      @justgetoutthereguy  Před 2 lety

      Sorry for delay... Wow gonna be honest not sure, put it this way if it is a longer duration hike - sounds to me like you are gonna need max space, so possibly this 50L might not be sufficient. How many days did you pack for? Because that food... that’s what I eat in half a day when hiking!!! I have a Decathlon backpack as well (among others). For the price I think there’s nothing wrong with them. It’s a shame sometimes how even grown ups who really should know better get brand washed and go for the name brand even if they know it’s snobbery. The one I have is perfect for traveling as it fits in the overhead compartment in aircraft cabins if you take the brain off. Well thought through for that... and I still did a few three nighters with it with about 45km a day. Wasn’t perfect for that but still better than some other packs that people drag around on the trail. The only thing I try to do nowadays is to find manufacturers who don’t exploit their workers. Not the ones in the retail stores, in the e-stores and not in the factories in the low labor cost markets. And even though Decathlon has moved into the right direction here quite a bit in the last few years, they are still far from fair and have little control over where what fabric or material is coming from. I’m willing to spend some more on a backpack now if a company can convincingly say they are trying to eliminate child labor and produce in countries where minimum safety standards are in place. Fjållråven or Patagonia are of course also trying to make a profit, and Wisport is only assembling in Europe - but it still gives me a better feeling. Good video!

      @justgetoutthereguy  Před 3 lety

      Hi - Thank you so much for watching & taking the time for your comments and views. Yes, I am still really pleased with my pack, sadly due to the lockdown, I have been unable to use it as much as I would have liked. I respect your views on child labor, I confess I perhaps am ignorant of the knowledge of working conditions for a lot of the manufacturing sources of these companies, I like many other consumers, looking more at the price tags as opposed to the origins... Yes, I was a bit minimal on the food - however, the army rations did provide me with adequate sustenance for the one night out! Thanks again for watching - All the best - Adam
