I'm so surprised I hadn't realised you've not done the dutch door before! I've done them for years and love them, hope you enjoy it! TIP for you, to avoid having those raw edges from the cut pages, keep the top 'layer', don't cut it off with the rest. Then glue it down, covering that whole top bit. So you would do your tracker on this glued piece. So everything is hidden and it also helps so that the top isn't way thinner than the rest of the book. You can also cut them a little longer and then glue each one down before covering with the last page if you want to keep page strength! I've also alternated before, one month the tracker would be at the top, the next at the bottom, so that the book is a bit more even! Hope this helps!! xoxo from New Zealand.

I’ve missed your plan with me videos... glad you’re back! That was stressful cutting for you, but I kind of enjoyed it because it wasn’t stressful for me! 😁😁😂. I did love the final product! Purple is my favorite color, so I loved you using it with the orange, and I liked the bright orange tabs,, but that could be because I like bright orange (my nails are bright orange right now)! 😁😁😁

Dutch doors have either never made sense or terrified me. But I may want to give them a try now. I don’t know if I’ll use them for October, since I have the Boho Berry box, but I’ll see what the vision board meeting inspires me to do. Thanks for showing every step of this, Kara. It let me know I’m not the only one terrified.

Kara, I am so happy that you are feeling so much better and you're back with your Plan with Me videos. You were the first person who really helped me articulate why I bullet journal and gave me tools to make it work for me, I love the mix of artistry and functionality of your spreads. And you're always so real about where you are in life and you're not trying to make your journal completely perfect. I love the authenticity of your channel, it's so refreshing. Here is an idea for you. They do make cutting mats for scrapbooking that are self healing and they come in handy when using exact knives. That was very encouraging, I have thought about dutch door before but wasn't sure I wanted to cut my journal. I love this set up and I think I might try it. This could be the layout I need to get my life focused & on track. Thank you for share and allowing yourself to be transparent. I love watching your videos for many reasons, one being that you show the ups & downs where others edit so that only the perfect is shown. Everyone make mistakes and you show how to embrace those and how to bounce back/over come. Love your heart to teach and encourage. You're awesome!

So happy to see these videos again!!! I decided that I really don’t enjoy cutting Dutch doors. Too stressful. So, I do a habit tracker vertically down the side then fold pages to give the Dutch door rather than cutting. I do my habit tracker top to bottom on half the page then fold all the other pages in half to write vertically and fold the pages over each other in order to always see the tracker.

and the Bujo Queen trembles :D It is okay. Yes, shaggy happens. I tend to cut close and then use a very nice washi to set the base pages so they don't tear out. I also use those tabs you grabbed and ALWAYS trim them , both the clear parts and the colored part. I use a sharpie to write on them...no smearing. You did the right thing:D Nice to see you back up and running...and fun.

When I make my Dutch door layouts, I cut with a nice pair of regular scissors. Then put a ruler near the binding and hold down, and tear against it. Works pretty well. You want a little bit of an edge so the binding doesn't come undone.

I would just cut the excess Orange tabs off from the top. I have been using post it tabs in my bullet journal for 3 years now and that's what I do to keep them from sticking out the sides of my note book too far. I cut them so that they are flush with the notebook cover that I use.

Ohmygosh, I have paper cutting tips! I was shouting at my phone (with love) to use a finger exacto, and then you opened yours, lol! I recommend a small self- healing cutting mat, and the rotary cutter. I've had the same mat for over 20 years, they're awesome. And the more you use the exacto the better you'll get, use a metal ruler if you get the rotary for straight lines. I'm going to try Dutch doors for the first time this month too, and even though I'm currently using a discbound planner, I'm just as scared to start cutting! Eeeeek!

I like the idea of Dutch doors, but I really don't want to thin out sections of my notebook by cutting chunks out. I'd probably just make the horizontal cut and try to find a use for the top sections, something independent from the lower sections. And then paperclip them together so the main/most frequently used one is the one that automatically shows up when I open my spread.
Too much work for me, though, since I really don't need that much organisation right now 😂

I've only done one version of Dutch door. It was more of a vertical layout where I cut off the left and right sides of the page spread. And the Dutch doors are in the very middle where the binding is. But I really liked how yours turned out.

Love this. Those cut edges in the middle would be gone!! Is it wonky to right on the top page (unlevel under right hand) or do you cut as the weeks progress? I am visualizing several Dutch doors, like Kara has here.)

@@maganlewis9663 I cut all the Dutch doors at once. I did it for about two weeks of days. I did my dailies in the middle/Dutch doors themselves. Then I used the sides for a mini calendar and a readathon tracker I was participating in that month.
I've been wanting to do it again. I was thinking I'd do it for the Oct 14-20 to keep track of Spookathon. @khiggs_ute on Instagram if you want to see that later in the month.

I used washi to cover some “hot mess” cut moments!

dont be so scared :) I have been doing this for a while, almost same design just no tabs.I leave 1-2 dots from the side spine at the top. I didn't like so much at first but now it helps catch where the pages are and it doesn't bother me.

    Thanks for this video !!
First time watching one of yours but not the first time i've heard about you !
Those spreads are really beautiful et seems so useful ! But thanks for letting us see that "messy part" so that people will stop thinking "making a monthly spread is SUPER easy and doesn't take a lot of time" ... well, if you want to make a spread like yours, it may take some time !!
For the tabs, you could have take some washi folded in 2.
And for the dutch door, you could have tried a vertical one (much easier to cut ^^)
By the way, i am NOT a bullet journal addict (i try to keep one but i am kind of lazy about noting things in it) but i like to watch videos and tutos about it 😉
    Have a good day !

So excited to see a plan with me from you! Why don't you just do your habbit tracker down the side and cut the side of each page. That would avoid cutting near the binding.

This pwm was so stressful but it was totally me! I appreciate you sharing your fear and concerns (which btw is prob why you're making those funny voices - you're being real with us). Thank you!

Try a self-healing mat that quilters use with a rotary cutter!

I just purchased an OLFA small rotary cutter (18mm) from amazon and I think it would be perfect for cutting out the dutch door!

I like this layout, even if it wouldn't work for me (I use just monthly and dailies). I use a Dutch door on my monthly, and the first one I cut caused panic for me as well.

Loving this video! So cute - I would be exactly the same ie terrified about cutting into the journal. What is the “waiting for” section for?

For the tab situation, you could trim the paper just a bit more or trim tab, and also you could double up on the tab, put one on the back of the sheet and stick it together with some double sided tape, just a thought. Love your spread by the way, I enjoyed the idea of the tabs and double doors.

if you do a vertical dutch door and cut the sides would be easier .. that way you dont mess with the spine
