  • In this video we present our last day and destination of our trip to Kosovo and Albania, we talk about our days in Tirana. A city that has changed drastically over the last 10 years and that I personally didn't recognize when I arrived. Albania is also the country of the burrneshas, the sworn virgins. Also, the country of beautiful beaches, like Durres. In addition to that, we visited charming towns like Berat, with some incredible restaurants and enviable food. We hope you enjoy the video. We review the history of Albania, Tirana, and all the facts that seem curious to us during this trip. We loved Tirana from the moment we arrived, and together with Berat, we found them to be two unrivaled cities. We highly recommend that you travel and visit these two cities if you visit Albania.

1- Sworn virgins were allowed only on those families which did not have boys who could work to support the family.
2- The oldest monument in Tirana is the roman vila, but not much known or spoken about even though it's quite close to the centre .
3- It is true that some scholars relate the flag to the Byzantine empire, but the symbol of the double headed eagle was used in the region long before the Byzantine or the Romans. The original version had also a six pointed star on top, which was a pagan symbol.

1- We mention this in the video when we say that due to lack of men on the family there was no possibility to work/survive for women as head of the family.
2- Thank you for the input, you are right, the Roman mosaic is the oldest architectural finding of Tirana. But here we were more likely referring to a proper building and excluding the ruins. We were referring to a building with good condition and with functionality, even tho we don't specify it like that. But thanks for the input, it is a very interesting fact.
3- As you say, the symbol is quite questionable, but what we read is that most probable is that it is due to the Byzantine Empire.

@@anderalaventura You are right, and actually I must congratulate because you are one of the very few channels who actually did a good research before visiting the place. I never seen any other channel mentioning the legend of Tomorr and Shpirag. Today people visit the places just for saying I've been there too, and are not much interested about the culture and stories behind these places. Anyway, thank you for visiting Albania and I hope you had a memorable time there! 😊

Hola Marco!

@@anderalaventura Kanun has nothing to do with the Ottomans, in fact it was applied in isolated regions where the populations of a Catholic majority have always been independent from the various empires...the concept of Besa also has nothing to do with the Ottomans..I think you don't know but Albania has never been inhabited by Turkish populations and during the Ottoman period it was ruled by ethnic Albanians....

@@anderalaventura However, that thing about the countless spies of the communist period is also exaggerated of course Albania was a dictatorship North Korea type but the most ridiculous thing is that both in Albania and in the Balkans or in Eastern Europe, the politicians who are in power and who today carry out the hardest anti-communist propaganda are those who had ties to the communist regime... but I just wanted to clarify that the Albanian ethnicity and nation are not Abrahamic inventions religion has nothing to do with the formation of our nation as happened in most European countries and all balkan countries we still have our paleo Balkan culture

The KANUN is not the law, I killed a man because they killed a man. The KANUN was changed according to the interests of prince LEK DUKAGJINI, who wrote it to protect himself because he had killed other princes to take their lands and property, the real KANUN is oral. and it is more than 7,000 years old, where the rules of society are the most accurate laws that today every jurist in the world would be envious of, and for more laws in the countries of the world, even the 10 commandments of the Bible or the laws of the Kuran are taken from the old oral KANUN. The Albanian language is the oldest language today, more than 7 thousand years old, and it is proto-Indo-European, and all of Europe or half of the world originated from the Pelasgian Illyrian tribes, the Latin language has taken words phrases from the Albanian language, because in every other language of the world, there are old words in Albanian. This was just for information curiosity.

Saludos!

Mqn stop saying Ottoman empire Ottoman empire all time. First of besa is albanian word and it means i give you my honor/word ( i won't sell you, i will be there for you) secondly kanun is again Albanian word and it means literally " the rule" and its before Ottoman empire when albanians were all of them Orthodox or Catholics. Please before you say something take your notes. We aren't Muslim country but secular country. Most of the Muslim Albanian are not practicing. Thanks
