Adopting a Friend's Baby

  • The plaintiff used to be friends with the defendant. When the defendant became pregnant, the plaintiff intended to adopt the child. However, the defendant backed out of the agreement after the plaintiff had already hired an attorney, so she's suing. The defendant admits she agreed to the adoption, but the father didn't.

The plaintiff said this first, and the defendant stated numerous of times she helped her ; however I’m not sure how the defendant should owe her anything when she played her part and role. She signed her rights ; the father did not. There is nothing she did wrong just as judge Mathis said ; to even assume she should have to come out of pocket and refund her friend back. Also ; with a friend like this who needs enemies. Typically your friend should want to be there for you anyway…. These ppl are not listening closely enough. The plaintiff deliberately started the insults the moment the case was ruled in the defendants favor. The plaintiff should’ve been more educated with the law. @theoracle2760 Před 3 měsíci

The defendant is clearly not someone who makes sound judgements. Just because she was about to give her the child doesn't mean she was stable. One major clue is she was already talking about relying on her mother, who is clearly already up in age, for help. It sounds like it was the father who started talking some sense and made the mother realize her friend was probably just not the best candidate and probably not much more stable than she was. Adoption is a rigorous process. The plaintiff probably would've never been approved by a real agency.

She asked me if I would adopt her child because she couldn't afford the child and she didn't believe in abortion. She was a very nice person and a good mom to her other kids she just was going through some things. I knew she wouldn't be okay with that mentally. Crazy that most of the comments are talking about the friend was wrong, but hardly no one finds it alarming that the plaintiff is TRYING to conceive and now adopt only 2 years removed from high school? And she's basically trying her hardest to become a single mom with no husband/father in the picture at around 20-21 years of age. And her mother cosigning this is insane! The dismissiveness of how important a father is in this culture is astounding. Ironically, I think that's also what ultimately lost her this case. She didn't think she had to consider what the father of the child had to say about the matter and it cost her.

The plaintiff should have spoken to the father before seeking an attorney. I guess she assumed since he’d signed away his rights to the family member that he would do it again.
I have some family members who adopted other relatives’ children for one reason or another. The children still know and spend time together with their birth parents. It can work out if people are mature.

Her friend was being a friend BUT the Father of the child said no, so don't be mad at her. It just is what it is. It would've been right for The Defendent to re-pay her any monies she might of paid towards the baby because they did agree she was to adopt her son. Thats the sole reason sge was shelling out the funds. The Defendent did kind of spit in her friends face. Took the her friends monies paid towards the adoption, made her do that work for not and The Plantiff ended up empty handed. The Defendent admitted that. Thats messed up. The Judge could've atleast refunded her her attorneys fees. But The Defendent is laying in the bed she made, so they Judge just considered it a wash.
