The fact that Donna is willing to scorn the shame of being duped so that she can be a blessing to others is laudable. Her being public about what happened and writing the book will quite literally save lives.
When you meet someone and they start asking you for favors, money or indirectly ask you to pay for the love you want because somewhere inside they have detected that you are someone who will only believe that you are loveable when you pay for, fix up, and own the object of your love. When you believe that love doesn't have to be transactional then you will orient your love around spiritual values like respect, kindness, generosity, fairness, wisdom, support, joy, knowledge and other values that are intrinsic in nature. Performers who like showy relationships or the show off their relationship often get duped because they are seeking "extraordinary love" that is only available to a select few like them. They want love that shows off and that they can fix, buy or own. Messiah complex is when you get a lot of value by being seen as a saviour and regarded as someone who saves others.
What this guy did was predatory. A lot of people never know why I do not answer a lot of personal questions. I've learned to lie until I feel comfortable because there are so many that just want to prey on you.
