The Chevrolet Chevy II/Nova is a small automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, and produced in five generations for the 1962 through 1979, and 1985 through 1988 model years. Nova was the top model in the Chevy II lineup through 1968. The Chevy II nameplate was dropped after 1968, with Nova becoming the nameplate for all of the 1969 through 1979 models. Built on the X-body platform, the Nova was replaced by the 1980 Chevrolet Citation introduced in the spring of 1979. The Nova nameplate returned in 1985, produced through 1988 as a S-car based, NUMMI manufactured, subcompact based on the front wheel drive, Japan home-based Toyota Sprinter.
After the rear-engine Chevrolet Corvair was outsold by the conventional Ford Falcon in 1960, Chevrolet completed work on a more conventional compact car that would eventually become the Chevy II. The car was of semi-unibody construction having a bolt on front section joined to its unitized cabin and trunk rear section, available in two- and four-door sedan configurations as well as convertible and 4-door station wagon versions. The 1962 Chevy II came in three series and five body styles-the 100 Series, 300 Series and Nova 400 Series. A 200 series was also introduced, but was discontinued almost immediately.[2] The sportiest-looking of the lot was the US$2,475 ($21,175 in 2020 dollars [3]) Nova 400 convertible-23,741 were produced that year.
The 1965 Chevrolet Chevy II and Nova were updated with cleaner front-end styling courtesy of a fresh full-width grille with new integrated headlight bezels. Parking lights moved down to the deep-section bumper, and sedans gained a new roofline. Taillight and backup lights were restyled, as was the rear cove. The 1965 Chevy II came in entry-level 100 form or as the posher Nova 400, each in three body styles. The Nova Super Sport came as a Sport Coupe only, and its production dipped to just 9,100 cars. Super Sports had a new brushed-chrome console with floor-mounted four-speed manual transmission or Powerglide automatic, but a column-mounted three-speed manual remained standard. Bucket seats wore textured vinyl trim, and the dashboard held ammeter, oil pressure, and temperature gauges. An expanded engine lineup gave customers six power choices of the six-cylinder or V-8 engines; the four-cylinder was available only in the 100. But, for Chevy II enthusiasts, 1965 is best remembered as the year the Chevy II became a muscle car. A 327 cu in (5.4 l) V8 was available with up to 300 hp (220 kW), suddenly putting Nova SS performance practically on a par with the GTO, 4-4-2, and 271 bhp Mustang 289s-at least in straight-line acceleration. Midyear also brought a more potent 283 with dual exhausts and 220 horsepower.
The Chevelle Malibu SS continued to eat away at the Nova SS market: Out of 122,800 Chevy IIs built for 1965 (compared to 213,601 Falcons), only 9,100 were Super Sports. For 1965, Chevy II had the dubious distinction of being the only car in GM's lineup to suffer a sales decline. It is possible that some Chevy II sales were lost to the brand-new '65 Corvair, which addressed virtually all its 1960-64 problems, got rave reviews from automotive journals and featured sleek new (Z-body) styling along with a brand-new chassis. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I bought this kit when it first came out in 1967! At the Bon Marche hobby department in Tacoma Wa. I was 11 years old and it was an easy build for me at the time. I think I will build a new one to see if I can do a better job this time!
I enjoy the plastic tyres they always come out looking great 👍 and just scrape the lettering to reveal good effect.. good build and looks awesome 🎉🎈😎💪
is it just a hobby or is it a way of life 👍
Wonderful review/build of this kit. You really do great things with a box stock. I really wish you would build a model and use as many aftermarket parts that you can get. You could showcase your skills, and review the aftermarket parts too. I thank many your fans would love watching that video.
I really wish you would sell tee shirts, and stickers. I am sure that I am not the only one that in interested in buying these items.
Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful videos.
I use "Mod Podge" to install windows, head light lens and red tail light lens, it dries clear and will not fog the plastic. You can pick this up at a hobby store.
What a sharp looking car - can just imagine it racing down the road.
Thanks!
Nice build! Excited to see how the new Mobius 65 Chevy II Dragster compared to this kit.
Stay tuned, both are inbound.
We must understand that one kit is 50 years old and the other is from 2022. Hard to compare the two.
@@hpiguy absolutly! Great point.
I’ve used some resin tires on some truck builds, a great paint I’ve used is Tamiya Nato Black.
ditto
Thanks!
Oh man don't ya just love AMT kits!
my favorite 👍🇨🇱
Thanks!
Too bad you can't build it showroom stock...but Mobeus just released what looks like a very nice stock '64 Nova SS hardtop!
@@Scale_Model_Mayhem good to hear that can't wait to get mine .hope there amazing 👍
Moebius kits are very modern so I'm sure it will be fine.
I have both of those Novas on the way from modelroundup.com, they have them in stock.
Good timing. I made the mistake of watching the world news tonight after work. This was a welcome break.
Thanks!
Wicked build Chris, thank you ✌😎
Can never get enough of these real life sweet high Horse-Powered...
short & altered wheel-base monsters as they ride it for all its worth...
wheels up, tires smoking as they blast down the ole 1320' 🏁
Hometown track New England Dragway ( Epping, New Hampshire )
Thanks!
Thanks for all the tips, Chris!!
Excellent build. Love the yellow color with black accents! Moebius is coming out with their own 65 nova; wonder how it will compare. I like the Moebius models because they have a lot of quality and are highly detailed. Built a couple of their Hudsons and a big fan.
I seen that , never heard of them(Moebius) but as a big nova guy and model builder , I'm very excited about this kit hope it's good..
Stay tuned, both Moebius kits are inbound and will be built for the show.
Just read an article about you in Model cars magazine, congrats.
Thanks!
AMT made a 65 Chevelle in this same style, the same time this came out. The Chevelle was called The Time Machine. I built both back in 69!
Gotta love a Nova drag car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Just got my nova can’t wait to get started, great videos chris
Reminds me of the Funny Farmer Tempest. Which I have. Guess I gotta get this one also. 👍👍👍
i saw the article about you in Model Car Magazine.👍
Thanks, doing what I can to help them out. :)
Another awesome build ! Thanks so much for helping the model community!! I have learned so much from all your videos and truely enjoy them !
I’ve been waiting for this one and looks amazing, can’t wait to have one thanks for sharing man
Hope you enjoy it!
@@hpiguy i know i will just from seen this video
neat! I'd like to build one up to look like Steve Magnante's Wilshire Shaker that was featured in Hot Rod magazine many years ago
That hammered silver finish looks really good on the chassis - gives it a nice effect. At first I thought you were running low on that spray and it was splattering as it tends to do!
The nozzle clogs often on the hammered paint. I soak it in super clean overnight when it does.
Great job is always my friend great to watch you I learned so much thank you again keep up the good work
Thanks!
It surprised me when I saw it had styrene tires, I was looking forward to this kit when I saw it n round 2's preview. Guess I would need to buy a tire set?
The plastic tires work well.
Saturday's video will have spare tires in it that would work perfect on this kit too, stay tuned!
@@hpiguy I never miss a video so I will catch it Saturday. Thanks
I also built this kit in the70's.
wow full toy one box always success👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You are amazing
I get what you mean "after a slump" (of building an intricate model) .. !!! No mirrors or finicky stuff.. Very familiar.. ! Nice.!
Thanks!
My first model was the Chevelle funny car from that series back when they first came out.
Thanks!
I love building my models, however hate dealing with how wheels don’t fit on axels well. Any suggestions on how to fix?
Simply drill out the wheel a bit using a hand held drill bit. In fact on Saturday's video coming up I have to do that and I do it on screen.
Cool car.. 👍
2nd comment.
Love watching your video's.
Just got back into model building and your video's have given great advice. Thanks again
Awesome! Thank you!
AMT completely forgot about the steering box and drag link. Also I've never seen an oil dipstick in any model that I can afford.
Great kit , awesome . Great work as always .
Thanks 👍
Daddy Warbucks has styrene tires also. Tamiya Nato black as others have said looks good.
Thanks!
As far as carpet, I believe almost all of the early 60s factory drag cars had it
nope
check out "Luka Cee Channel" he does a lot of great detail work on the models. The cost of models have got too expensive i think I am going to disassemble my models and go into greater detail such as working lights and motor detail.
AHH! Wouldn't ya know they reissue this kit about a year after I got an earlier issue from Model Roundup (rat pack). Oh well I'll get this too, I like the bad news decals.
Great work as always Chris
I appreciate that!
Hi Chris. I've been watching and admiring your vids/builds for years. Thank you for your Channel ... you are my go-to for new release build reviews. I have a question for you ... you use some beautiful background music in your vids. Can you please share who the artists are and the names of their songs? I would love to try to find some of those songs. (I'm also a local guy. I found your card at Hobby Lobby in the model isle;) ) TIA!
I use free tracks from YT, you can search their free music under 'mellow'.
The tires aren't nothing to change myself I never cared for that style of tire for a model but with that said it turned out nice
Thanks!
Chevy ll s. Are my favorite cars can't wait to get mine building my like yours round 2 bring back the indy.combo
Thanks!
Nice build as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Very beautiful job on this one! You really knocked it out of the park! I just completed a prior release of this kit (black box art as Rat Packer II). I....really didn't like this kit. That's just me though. I converted mine to a 1963 using the tail panel from a vintage 1963 kit and using the grill from the craftsman series issue of the 1963 nova wagon. The pros with the kit are the specific 1965 Nova parts. And, I like how you did the tail lights with the sharpie. There's lots of options there. Also, when I did mine I used the 1966 pro street nova tires in favor of the styrene tires. Had to narrow the rear axle to get them to fit, but really gave it a mean look to it. Also, did you notice the "hammer tone" finish on the front mag wheels? Looking forward to your build and review of the mobius ones😀.
Hey Dave, nice work. I noticed that when you use the Super Glue, which I assume is a gel not the regular liquid type you put something on the glue with the clear dropper. What are you using there?
I'm not sure who Dave is, but that liquid is super glue activator. It instantly sets the super glue.
Hugh...try calling him "Chris". That's what his name is.
It is a pretty cool lookin car. Thank you for the really good demonstration on the decals. You do make it look easy and yeah as it should be if you just stop over thinking it I now realize. I really like how the dashboard gages came out. It does help when the details are raised up enough which is what it looked like to me. Either do that or give me decals I say, the gages are always the hardest part to make look real. I suppose that it's really only going to matter to you yourself in the end. Most people are only going to look at the whole picture. Nice job Chris. Awesome car.
Thanks!
Great review and always an awesome build.this kit is on my wish list.plastic tires or not still looks great built up. Thanks Chris.peace
Thanks!
Awesome build as usual Chris. 👍
Glad you like it!
Hi Chris, how could you do coloured glass or Lexan like on gassers? Love gassers, cool model. Thanks
Tamiya clear paints will tint glass nicely.
Nice job on your Nova build Chris. Thanks for sharing this.
Another winner Chris! You took the words out of my mouth, this is a slump Buster easy build kit. You probably needed a break after the GMC Bus.
Thanks! Yup! Those truck kits take a bit of tense moments.
what glue are you brushing on thats setting up that fast ?

Plastruct Bondene
Another great build mate, and great video. Hope you have a relaxing end of week Chris and a great weekend. 😊👍

and why does Round 2 -refuse to retool the body for the 64-65 chevelle 'Time Machine AWB -funny car -these kits are well liked--
Thanks!

Did you send the body after primer?
Very cool I like what you did with your kit 👍🇦🇺

Simply TWITCHEN Chris ‼️‼️ Love The" EVERYTHING " God Bless All !!!
Thanks!
What's the name of the glue your using
......the glue YOU'RE using......nice to see illiteracy still strong with the young kids......
Bondene
why the two different glues
Bondene for plastic to plastic, super glue for final assemblies and painted parts.
Nice job on the build!! Wish Round 2 would bring back the AMT 65 Nova( Chevy ll) from 65.
👍 🎥
Thanks!
Another awesome build! I just recently purchased off eBay Aurora's Pinto funny car body and custom painters model kit. It was originally issued in 1973 and was never reissued again. They are quite rare. I'm working on it as we speak and it is quite a fun build. A few months ago, I bought Aurora's Vega funny car body and custom painters model kit. It too, is an original 1973 issue. Take care, God bless, and be safe!
I had a chance at the Pinto funny car for 9 bucks at a flee market, should've grabbed it.
Oh, I'm sorry you had to miss out. I know it can be frustrating. I waited several months on this purchase because the price was too high. Just a few days ago, the seller had the Pinto funny car body model kit for 70% off the original price and I grabbed it. Hope you can find one to build. Check on Ebay. Every once in a while these kits show up. Happy hunting and God bless.
Well at first I wasn't sure I wanted to build it but after a few days I decided to get it and went back but it was gone. Ya snooze ya lose.
Very cool!
Does anyone know of a 1967 nova funny car
When it comes to model cars, I would like the OEM version of these classics way more than these wacky one offs that they are peddling. Please pass the word.
Eh poifect!$$$$
Thanks!
Original Funny Car - Probably. Original FUN BUILD - Totally.
Thanks!
Looks like a great kit but I don't know why they call it a funny car, it's a gasser.
Gassers like this with altered wheelbases and extreme body setback is where the term "Funny Car" originates from. It makes them look funny compared to the stock ones, and the name just stuck. When teams finally ditched using steel factory bodies in the quest for more speed and went all fiberglass, the name just kinda came along with it.
