Wrongly jailed people should be compensated a huge amount of money to help them live a truly happy life after all those struggles.
Give this guy $28M a consolation of $1M x 28 years he wrongfully imprisoned and convicted.
@@user-oy8gr8xc1jdepends on state apparently 😞 can you imagine?
@@user-oy8gr8xc1jThere was a caption at the end saying Missouri does not compensate wrong convictions.
Which to any normal person is unjustifiable.
souri
Thats DISGUSTING
@@user-oy8gr8xc1j in this case no compensation but depending on jurisdiction and whether state or federal there are some compensation schemas. It’s another vicious arm of the broken justice system.
Trie justice is impossible in many cases; how do you make a person whole when life is stolen? I am a fan of restorative justice especially in smaller cases -and at a community level.
I cannot imagine being incarcerated knowing I am innocent and no one will listen. How frustrating , devastating and depressing that must be. The state took 28 years of his life his ability to make a living and then finally he is free and has nothing. Missouri’s law needs to be changed. Mr. Jackson deserves compensation. It won’t give back what he has lost but would definitely help his future.
That's almost as big of a travesty of justice as the wrongful conviction! He DESERVES compensation!!
28 years of his life lost! All the people that wrongfully put this man in prison for almost 30 years should be held accountable and he should receive compensation.
At least 5 million dollars
@@xana5649 Would you go to prison for 28 years for 5 million? 10? 28?

@@JaneDoe-tr5xyis that a question?
@@terifulcher4807 Yes, my question is .... how many years of your life is worth $5 million dollar$ to you? How many years do you devote to your career in your lifetime? I donated, and I signed the petition. I'm so glad to hear that he was finally sent free. Thank you, 48 hours, for sharing this story.
God bless your kind soul! Thank you so much
❤
That’s commendable. The aught to pay this man his potential earnings if he had gone to college and ran a successful business.
To see certain police officers, lawyers and prosecutors refusing to apologise for falsely sending people to jail, even insisting they did absolutely nothing wrong, is beyond disgusting. If Hell is real then that's where they truly belong.
And the arrogance when they do that, you can't help but feel all the negative emotions towards them.
😅😊😅
Disgusting behaviour and cowardly to not accept responsibility for anything whatsoever. If that's Texas justice I'm glad I'll never set foot in the State. Horrific injustice.
How come when colored people complain about bad police, it’s an issue but you all can sit here and admit the issues under this video 🧐🧐🧐
And cops wonder why they're despised and so untrusted as a whole!!
It’s beyond shameful this man can’t be compensated for outrageously , and wrongly loosing 20+ years of his life at the hands of corrupt police officers , and a broken justice system.
Governor Rick Perry signed a law to compensate him.
@@BFProductionsLLC Good to know !
I hope they follow-through.
That man deserves compensation!
He did get 1.4 million, it's definitely not enough but it is something
@@skibbatrixadona oh yea, I meant the first guy. Didn’t they say the state of Mississippi wouldn’t allow comp, by law..
@@chepad1 A GoFundMe was set up. It made over 600k.
if they are TOO big to apologize for taking 28 years of his life, they'll surely be Too big to even consider compensating him for those wasted years, in my opinion.
But they had money to pay a liar. Mind-blowing!
Heartbreaking for real. Too many innocent people are behind bars due to shady practices by detectives. Something needs to change, our justice system is broken. 😢
are you aware the ONLY qualifications you need to be a detective is a GED & pass police academy?
Its NOT a justice system. It's a legal system intended to remove certain classes of people from society....specifically the poor and non whites.
Don’t forget the prosecutor! Jail should be automatic!
And the state!!! Using words to back out of paying the poor man the money he deserved 😡 DISGUSTING
Been like that for decades, I’m afraid. What sent innocent people to prison 100 years ago still happens today.
@@Witchfoot.Incorporated what do you want? a MA in gender studies?
Charles Sebesta is disgusting. So happy to learn that he was eventually disbarred. And I was also happy to learn that 19-0 Kelly Siegler was NOT willing to look past shoddy, missing or fabricated evidence just to run her record to 20-0 in death penalty cases. In fact, I was delighted that she condemned Sebesta's actions.
This case, yes. But seigler is so far from innocent as a prosecutor.
@CommishTv What you talking about Kelly knew she couldn't win and didn't want a stain on her record. She looked at the paperwork, said nah this isn't 20 I'll wait for the next 1
This 👍🏾👏🏾
Siegler didn’t have the original star witness either. He had been executed.
@@user-qd2nt3qj3sSiegler must have realised she wouldn’t get her 20-0 with this one, but she did make sure Sebesta was disbarred for his misconduct, so I accept she genuinely realised the case was unjust. I bet he did the same in other cases too.
He isn’t entitled to compensation after almost 3 decades behind bars for a crime he clearly didn’t commit? 😢 This is painful to even acknowledge... horrible. I pray the law is amended and applies retroactively ...
He received 1.2 million. This case is heartbreaking!
@@bbe3034you keep telling everybody that but 1.2 million is nothing compared to what he should have gotten nothing and I'm pretty sure he has to pay taxes on that so really he doesn't really get much for all those years of being an innocent person in prison
you are bad with numbers. 17 years. 13.4 million in settlements. say thx to wiki
@@bbe3034 Anthony rec'd 1.2 mil., but Lamar rec'd zero as the state of MO does not compensate. His legal team started a Go Fund Me page for him and as of this date, they have raised over $600,000 for him.
This channel never disappoints. They're always the best at what they do.
AMEN 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Wonder how Anthony is doing ?? Kelly Seigler is a stand up kind of person. She made sure that the prosecutor was disbarred 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This made me cry sooo much😢just imagine how much trauma he has to go through. 😞😔😭😭😭
Abolish qualified immunity and Guaranteed Immunity and see how fast this stops when the bad actors are held accountable !
💯 its scary how this can literally happen to anyone. Once they have you in their sights you're done for, even with no evidence against you. Like you said nothing happens to them so they dont care about destroying other people lives.
@@mysterymaverick1982Exactly !
Just think how these wrongful convictions of the innocent would stop if corrupt cops and lawyers knew that not only could it cost them their careers but that any compensation could also come out of their own bank accounts and Estates and leave them with nothing .
Problem is that for now even in the states are compensation is allowed they know that the money is coming out of the taxpayers from the counties
That's exactly what I said. Qualified absolute in sovereign immunity was invented basically to keep people from wrongfully going after law enforcement. But it was also invented way before we've had all this technology in order to prove someone's innocence we no longer need to depend on this immunity system because these people are getting away with screwing with people.. and then on top of that someone wrongfully committed they know it was wrongfully committed they have proof that it was wrongfully committed and oftentimes they don't even stop an execution we as a society need to step up and fight this
How do you steal 28 years of a man's life and freedom and not compensate him for that?! No amount of money can make up for what he's lost but here is coming out of prison with nothing. That's appalling! 😡
He received 1.2 million.
What gets me is those devils the Bible speaks of wouldn't have given him the money if it wasn't for the public. The Edomites are truly monsters!
@@bbe3034 good!
Just curious.
How do you know?
@@bbe3034that's very little money especially since he probably has to pay taxes on it and he should have gotten much much more than that .
I've seen cases where people have won $14 Million and I think even as high as $ 22 million .
he spent 17 years in prison.
Normally, I don't get moved by crime programs, but this one was different. The level of incompetence and arrogance of the prosecutors and detectives manipulating evidence, jury, and the judge just because it suits them (for whatever reason) calls for putting those prosecutors and detectives on trial. They themselves should taste lengthy sentences.
Truly amazing was his last comment about the false witness who was largely responsible for his wrongful conviction.
He stated that he was grateful to the man for taking steps to correct what he had done, and that he was willing to testify and admit to the truth of what originally happened.
He didn't accuse him of stealing his life; he instead was appreciative for his willingness to finally tell the truth.
What an outrage that they take 28 years of a man's life and leave him penniless. There's no consequence for them to make mistakes and destroy lives. Shame on you Missouri!
he was 37 when he got out. how could he spend 28 years in prison, Einstein? lol
Johnsons picture with his daughters...he looks so proud of them and happy to be standing there with them.
Thats what stands out to me.😊
There was a time when all good innocent people believed the police . Always remember you cant lie to them but they can lie and say anything
Don’t be stupid never talk to the police without a lawyer the police are just doing their job
@@dixiefowler5138 , the police officers are just incompetent and unprofessional in doing their job, I am afraid.
@@dixiefowler5138 the police in this matter did such a lousy job, an innocent man languished in prison for 30 years. This is one of the many reasons people don't trust police "just doing their job."
In fact, detectives aren't allowed to say whatever they want. They can lie to suspects, but the suspects often lie to them, too. Suspects can tell the most a sure lies, but there are actually limits about what detectives can lie about, how far down that road they can go.
That doesn't excuse what happened to these men. But if you're going to make claims in defense of the truly innocent, it would benefit you to make sure those claims are accurate. Otherwise, it's a disservice.
@moriyarose3587 They most certainly are allowed to lie to suspects but if the suspect lies they use it against them in court.
Missouri should pay exonerated people for the time that they unjustly spent in jail. Minimally, it might be a deterrent for the police and prosecutor's office to attempt conviction, unjustly.
LAMAR JOHNSON: Absolutely disgusted that this innocent man is not entitled to compensation after how he was treated. Shameful behaviour and situation all round.
13.4m
Omg this is heartbreaking. Much of Lamar's life was spent in jail because of some detectives lazy work. Sad
Grave injustice really got me. 18 years and he still had a sense of humour talking to his mum on the phone, no one not even Mr Graves knew he was getting out. Am so emotional
This gives me an all new respect for Kelly Siegler. I've always liked her, but I like her even more now.
Good for him! What an inspiration this man is!
Congratulations, Sir!
On your long overdue freedom!
🎉 Welcome Home! 🎉
How can this happen. We only have one life to live. To spend it wrongly jailed is beyond comprehension!
He is such a beautiful man.. like his face shows his beautiful soul and oh wowww momma raised such a lovely human..❤❤❤❤❤
GOoD bless this female prosecutor!! and shame on the AG$ office that worked to keep an innocent person in prison!!!
So happy for Lamar Johnson!😭💜
This case brought me to tears. Since the state won’t compensate Mr Johnson for false imprisonment, he should sue the detective who basically paid the main witness to lie, resulting in Mr Johnson’s conviction.
Just because a police officer, prosecutor, judge or jury member have power does not mean they are honest, unbiased, diligent or ethical or that they follow the laws and seek the absolute truth.
I am so impressed by the prosecutor in this appeal of the case. Wow, this lady sought the truth and justice. What a wonderful person she is!
He has such kind eyes and such a pure smile. I’m so happy he is finally free !!!!!
This here is why I don't agree with the death penalty.
The first time a 48 hours made me cry for the right reasons. Thank you for this episode.
Oh my God - am I happy for Lamar Johnson! 👏
I wish him all the best for his life!
Always warms ya heart when innocent are set free ❤
The common denominator with these cases… crooked investigators and prosecutors. Absolutely disgusting.
It frightens me how easily swayed jurors can be with little to no actual evidence! None of them are going along with their required duties as jurors and that’s to convict someone to a reasonable degree of certainty or beyond a reasonable doubt as some jurisdictions word! Not a minuscule amount of certainty a reasonable amount of certainty!! How can the word of a criminal and no other evidence be a reasonable amount of certainty!? 🤦🏻♀️
Great job judge¡¡ I was clapping…. Standing up for that man with legit questions.
The pure incompetency of all of these investigators is absolutely appalling! How you have NO regard for human life. How you have a warped sense of reality to actually convince yourself someone committed a crime with no solid evidence. The lies, manipulation, gaslighting. It’s sickening! That’s why I always teach my children if they’re ever in that kind of position, to immediately ask for an attorney, then call us.
The statement, "whoever gets out first comes back for the other", my heart hurts so much for these men. And sorry not sorry but how do you knowingly identify the wrong person and then blame cause you wanted to make another man happy. You're not a dog. Not a pet. Be a man and stand up for what is right!!!!!
I cried a lot watching this episode of Lamar Johnson, the innocent guy waisted what should have been the best years of his life in a place he shouldn’t have been. I pray he finds his new reality easy
When i seen Kelly Seigler was the new Prosecutor on that 2nd b.s. case, i was nervous. Cuz i like her so much, and have so much respect for her, and i was hoping she wouldn't let me down. And she did not! She is really an honorable woman, and Prosecutor. She saw the flaws, and injustices in that conviction, and she didnt ignore it just because she was on the opposing side!
I really like Kelly Seigler. She did the right thing. Thankfully the man received 1.2 million in compensation. Such a heartbreaking case that he was in prison for so many years.
she is kind of a prosecutor with a heart..
@@bbe3034the money is nice, but I think he should of got more. You can't get back years of your life.
I was quite impressed with her. I got goosebumps when she was talking about her realization he was innocent. 🥰
This episode made me cry for poor innocent man to spend 28 years in prison for a crime. He did not commit and for him to miss out on his child being raised just makes me angry. I’m so glad you got out hon you enjoy spending time with your family. God bless you all.
Any attorney police that either plant evidence or coerce witnesses into false convictions should be jailed for the same amount as the victim
I hope he sues the heck out of that court system! He’s life was taking from him and his whole family !
Prideful, narcissistic DA’s, detectives etc. refusing to admit they have done wrong- knowing full well what they did. There should be serious consequences- including prison time- when people of power intentionally falsify evidence! They have absolutely no business representing or enforcing any part of the justice system. Pure evil!!!
I sobbed when these innocent men were finally exonerated. So grateful that the day finally came for them! My heart still hurts though, for all that they lost.
For all these prosecutors and police detectives who lied and put these innocent people in jail/prison, remember you guys have kids too. What goes around comes back around.
I like Kelly Siegler, so when I saw her pop up here as the prosecutor to re-try Anthony Graves, I was heartbroken! How sucky that someone I admire played a part in this injustice. Minutes later, I was relieved….how courageous for Siegler to stand up and admit that Graves was innocent. I’m not giving her all the credit here, as there were tons of others (including Graves himself) who worked for the acquittal, but it’s always reassuring to see someone’s genuine integrity.
Sadly this happens every day
This is why I like Defense Attorneys.
This is so scary and sad 😮a person can be wronfully framed and easily jailed
Every person who was wrongfully convicted should be compensated
Lamar Johnson should be compensated by the state. Anyone wrongly imprisoned should be compensated.
These stories shouldn't be a happy ending but an angry ending. They were lied on and tossed in jail with everyday else that happens in jail. There should be jail time for these liars. They robbed these people of their lives.
sure,..put on the jail all leae detectives..
God bless you, Anthony Graves! I am so proud of you for holding on.
"Presence matters more than presents". I loved that. So glad he was able to attend his daughter wedding and I hope everything turns out well for him as he ventures on his new life of freedom.
After taking away all this years away his not entitle for nothing 😢 how are they going to live? That's really sad and cruel 😢
So Unfair that 1st case doesn’t receive any money for 28 years sickens me! Under Missouri law no compensation-this law needs changed!
I honestly believe out of all the stories, the first one I don’t believe. I think he is actually guilty. Now the second one, there is NO doubt that he is innocent.
@@MamightbeI don’t know why I kind of felt the same..

Amen, God is always good. People, don’t forget that….
Wow, that is so awesome! Congratulations to all who had the privilege of freeing this man.
The egos of the detectives knowing it was false convicting an innocent man is disturbing
Thank God!!!!!!!!
Praise God. He moved in the heart of those who have the power it make it right. Mistakes like this are intentional.
Who's fault was it that he got framed? Couldn't God had made them get it right from the start? 28 years...
If the law didn't care about lying then you can bet if the witness didn't lie there would have retaliation
Sadly this story again confirms how useless the justice system is. But also many detectives have a lack of professional training to conduct an investigation. Really shocking. The innocent victim of justice fail really deserves for massive compensiation for all these lost years behind bars.
Kelly Siegler is a bulldog, but she doesn't devour the innocent. She is the best. I love her. She is honest. Wish more lawyers were honest like her. If she was dishonest, she could have gone there and dishonestly "won" the case.
Heartbreaking... 😢

Finally you are Free Mr Johnson, Hope you get compensated. Wishing you the best life possible, that is what you so deserve.
Give this guy $28M a consolation of $1M x 28 years he wrongfully imprisoned and convicted.
Give him 1 million for each liar or each piece of evidence held from helping him. Multiply that times 28. 7 witnesses or pieces of evidence × 28 × 1000000
Imagine finding your parents dead, at 17, and innocently getting charged to life in prison.
I swear Texas and Florida are the worst states by far in this country when it comes to the judicial system.
Lamar's case was in Missouri.
What a horrible nightmare for all the men convicted and locked up for something they didn’t do! Nothing can ever compensate what they endured in prison! I hope they will one day get over the injustice happened to them!

This happened in my city (St.Louis) It’s a crying shame he was ever convicted. I remember when they announced his release on the news .
i'm sick of the injustice of this keeping a man in prison despite him being innocent there was no evidence not a shred of it in the first place...
And for so long too… the justice system is quick to convict and slowwwww to overturn. It’s such a disgrace 😔

Alkie: I just wish I could change time.
I feel you buddy. I do. I've wished that myself, to go back and fix some choices I've made that impacted myself, my kids, others. To do the right thing, to see things the way I do now, and know what I know now, then. But the best and most we can do is to try our best to correct what can be fixed. To change what we CAN, and not focus on the rest. We can't unwind time, but we can make choices and do right, from here forth. By testifying in Lamar's defense, by telling the truth, he is doing his part. We all have to forgive ourselves and strive for truth and justice in the present and future. Lamar is owed so much from the judicial system and law enforcement above all.
Lamar Johnson has a beautiful soul, you can see that in his eyes and hear it in his voice. My heart broke for the time he lost with his family. I was so relieved that he has his freedom now but I'm deeply sorry it came at such a cost. Every person that knows his story is sending him positive energy and I truly hope he has an amazing life now and into the future. Lamar, if you ever read this, I'm so happy for you.

OK, I can agree that the Supreme Court says that the police says can lie to a suspect, but telling the lie that his father had woken up and accused his son was just plain cruel. In fact, it was a degree of cruelty that was sickening.

I am sorry for the injustice to Mr. Lamar Johnson and his family dealt with for almost 30 years. He lost 30 years of TIME, he could have spent as the head of his family, as a father. Apologize for being white at once
@@javierbarrera9805 I may be wrong, but I sense some humor in your statement. I don’t think you need a reminder that none of us had any control over what shade our skin is. No matter what shade we have, as humans we can empathize with others, regardless of any differences. Too bad everyone can’t share that character trait. We all put our pants on the same way. At some point along the way, I believe each and every one of us has been treated unfairly. That’s why I have hope not in this world or system, but in what comes afterwards. We will all have to answer to the One Just Holy God/Creator for the way we treated others, and we are one race….the human race. It’s sinful hearts of men/women that cause division. 🙏💕
Truer words have NEVER been spoken…as they’ve stated: GOD IS GOOD!
God had nothing to do with it. If he was so good, no one who is truly innocent of a crime would ever serve a minute behind bars.
