I always love watching your reading vlogs and often go back and watch older ones because you are one of the few booktubers who actually read ADULT novels and not only/primarily YA. Thank you, as always, for your honestly and your willingness to put these videos out!
I just found your channel and I really love it. It’s quickly becoming a new favorite and I’ve already rewatched an entire year. Hoping for more and longer vlogs. / Natalie from Sweden
I like reading about the lives of real-life writers so I'd like to try read the about the fictional writer in "Ladder to the Sky".---Helene, since you enjoy stories about upper-class New York in the 1930's I highly recommend the novels and fiction of Louis Auchincloss, one of my all-time favorite writers. He was from a wealthy New York family and, if my memory is right, Mr. Auchincloss's father married the mother of Jacqueline Bouvier who would later be Jacqueline Kennedy, First Lady of the United States. I'm can't think of a particular title at the moment but Louis Auchincloss wrote stories about upper-class New Yorkers that take place in many different eras. You might like to sample his work in a short story collection called "Tales of Manhattan". I don't have the name of the author but another story about wealthy New Yorkers going from the 1890's or so up into the 1930's is "The Lady Who Loved New York".
I loved the Danish cover of Globet of fire! I am dying to read A ladder to the sky! Another heartbreaking story of Boyne is 'A history of loneliness' I hope you read it someday. Thanks for your vlog!
I too have Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows in English and the rest of the series in my native language (Finnish)! Funny :) However, regarding the orange colour, we are total opposites - it's my favourite colour. I read one book by Ildefonso Falcones like a decade ago, think it had something to do with building a cathedral in Spain. It was entertaining enough. But too many pages. Happy reading!
Since you still recommend Rules of Civility, I will probably keep it on my TBR. I loved A Gentleman in Moscow which was my favorite read last year. Zeus is adorable. Was that him at the end? Looked like a different cat, shorter hair.
Another great video! I seen so many of your videos. How often do you use English in your daily life? I would have never guessed you speak another language.
Ildefonso Falcones! I've been told the first book "Cathedral of the Sea" (Havets katedral) is quite good but I've never given it a try... In part because of the size, in part because each time I find it in the book shops, the description in the back makes me put it down ^^
Your fathers book sounds interesting, but when I looked it up in English I couldn't find it. If anyone else has found it in the USA please let me know.
I found in Amazon two books in English by Ildefonso Falcones: Cathedral of the Sea and The Hand of Fatima. The first one is the one Helene's father lent her, called La Catedral del Mar originakky,. The second part of that book, sort of a sequel, is called Los Herederos de la Tierra, in Spanish (which translates as The Heirs of the Land) and it doesn't seem to exist in English yet. I'll see if I can paste the links here.
Ahh, I loved the Ildefonso Faldones book! I enjoyed it thoroughly. And I'm one of the people who doesn't want to read Michelle Obama's biography. I don't care at all about her or her husband and family! ^^U
I agree with you. Michelle Obama is of the 'entitlement class' who believe the working class don't deserve basic human rights like healthcare which is why 30 million Americans still don't have healthcare, 45,000 die every year because they don't have heathcare and even if you have insurance, healthcare and prescriptions are the leading case of bankruptcy in America. These conditions are of course unheard of in Denmark or anywhere in Europe and wouldn't be tolerated but the 'entitlement class' in America thinks this is the best system because they profit from war and inequality.
@@alfmeister13 Well, you're certainly a lot more informed than me regarding this subject (I'm not from America and I don't know much about the social conditions there, in detail, just the generalities that you can usually read in the news, that aren't really trustworthy, in my opinion, neither in America nor anywhere else), and I'm sure what you say is probably true because neither Obama nor any politician is ever really good to the people they govern. I certainly don't believe Obama was a saint while Trump is a devil or vice versa. ^^U But I really just meant that the Obamas aren't people I care about. I have very little interest in politicians and politics, even less interest in their lives and I've never been a part of this trend of loving the Obamas and partially idolizing them just because people hate the new US President (and I feel this biography is part of that campaign to "keep the love alive", to see if they can go back to the power sometime in the future). I don't think any politician is really all that worthy of a person, no politician even does what he/she does out of a genuine interest for "the people", everyone just wants the power (even "the people" would only care about powder if they ever actually had it), and... Well, I don't care about them or their families or wives. I don't care much about human beings in general, much less politicians or someone who, for me, only has the merit of having married an ex-US President and exhibit a supposedly "popular" last name because of that. xD
I thought you'd said too much about The ladder in the sky when you described the main character but then I found it's pretty much what it says on the back cover.. but I can't not remember being spoiled for Flowers for Algernon... yes I only found out about the book through your channel and that's why I read it but it took a little out of the reading experience to know beforehand what was to happen to Charlie. I don't think you've done any other spoilers but maybe be careful about it nevertheless, in future. :)
Missing your videos 😥 hope all is well!
Me too!!!!

I love seeing other editions of Harry Potter. It's just so interesting to see how they were marketed in other countries and languages.

Have been checking you channel for a number of weeks for a new upload.
You have such lovely videos and a miss watching them.
Hope all is well.
I love the vlogs :) Helene, one question, is there any trigger warnings in John Boyne's book? Abuse, etc, something like that?
missing your videos! you're one of my fave youtubers. hope you're doing ok
Merci pour ce beau vlog (mais il était trop court ☺️). Je te souhaite un beau mois de février !
Parle-t-elle aussi français? Ça c'est cool!

@@elizabethvermuth8183 You're welcome! :) I hope you like it, if you read it, I did. ;)
I love you ❤️

Who was the cat at the end, the one playing with the bag? He didn't look like Zeus, his fur was too short. Curious. Thanks for the great updates.

After you by Jojo Moyes wasn't the best book but I liked it. It's ok if you didn't.
Still me was way better if you want to read it someday.
