  • Sea trout fly fishing on Gotland in October with fresh energy after being away for almost half a year. In this video I'm reflecting on an experiment I did in the spring with how I make my leader rig and decide to mix things up and only use one fly in favor of two.

    The joy of being in a country where the Seatrout migrate for winter feeding 😊unfortunately we need to wait till they start heading back 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Great to see you back on the coast chasing sea-runs. On Vancouver Island we are limited, by law, to using only a single fly, i.e., no possibility of hooking two fish at a time. No line tangles either. Never felt handicapped with only one fly out there. I suppose it's all in one's perspective and attitude, and what they have grown up with. Looks like you have taken to the one fly thing with gusto... Cheers!

    Have you liked stifu seatrout? I've been thinking that rod for 2nd rod next to meri rod on coastal fishing.... By the way you have great videos 👍

    Great video as always! I was wondering why you are using a 7wt line on the 6wt Stifu Seatrout? I have the line myself and use it on my 7wt rod, and it is just amazing, but to me it would seem heavy on a 6wt. Is it just preference, or does the Stifu Seatrout handle a 7wt line well?

      I don't want to have 1000 lines so I use the lines I have. Regardless of what weight they have. Normally only 2 grams difference in 6wt head vs 7wt head so I don't care so much. It was a bit heavy but it worked okay.

    Hi again Robert, in my last message I mistakenly thought that Gotland was in Denmark not Sweden. My comments still apply and Gotland looks very tempting!

    Hi, I really enjoyed this video and your informative and engaging dialogue. Can I ask a couple of questions? I have flyfished in the U.K. all my life but much to my shame have never really got to grips with double hauling. I can cast a decent long line but would lack of distance significantly reduce my chances of success in the waters you fish?.
    Also would the Bombarda float method using a fly as the lure be as effective as traditional fly rod fishing because it obviously means that distance is no problem? I’ve always wanted to do to Denmark to fish for the sea trout but somehow have never got round to it so perhaps this year or next…..

      Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the video. I would recommend this video for you to watch. Hopefully it can give you some self-confidence that your casting distance can be enough.

    Hey Robert, I am interested in trying to get after sea trout near Gävle sometime soon, have near flyfished for sea trout before. In this video you were using a 6 weight fly rod, what is the lightest you’d go? I have a fast action 9ft 5 weight and I wonder if it’s enough.
    Thanks,
    Lucas

      Hi Lucas. 6 wt is the lightest I use. Give it a try with the rod you have 👍 be careful with the breaking point of the line/leader setup. I use 0,31 mm tippet and a five-weight line can be quite weak. So you don't pull it off in the middle if you get stuck in the bottom. Maybe 0,28mm would be the best mid-ground to not be too weak.

    I cant even imagine trying to cast with 2 flies, 1 is hard enough for me 😅

    Isn't it the season closed in Sweden to 31.12 ?

    • @FlyFishingbyRobert
      @FlyFishingbyRobert  Před rokem +1

      It depends on the area. I believe you think of southern Sweden. There it is until 31.12. Here it is open all year round but with seasonally closed areas.
