- Elden Ring intro explained in under 5 minutes. This video explains the characters and context found within Elden Ring's intro cutscene that players may be confused by at first. Spoilers are kept to a minimum, and all information about the story and lore is taken directly from the game itself to the best that I could interpret it.

I think it's better to learn about the lore of each character/boss after you finished their questline/bossfight.
I think they should make a better job at telling the story

@@yksnimus totally agree, I mean, the lore is so deep yet when you begin the game you feel lost (my case last week), perhaps some lord of the rings intro style would be nice here , LOL
*George RR Martin* helped write the story and focused heavily on the *Lore & world building* of *Elden Ring* which makes it even more amazing, especially if you are a fan of the *Game Of Thrones* TV show or the *Game Of Thrones* books called *A Song Of Ice And Fire*
You should play this less like a point a to b finish and play this more like a novel if you look for the answers in the game you will learn how to find them if you pay attention
I'm glad you explained this, because I was deeply confused by this cutscene and believed almost everyone pictured in the cutscene were main bosses, I especially was confused when I saw the dung eater for the first time appear in the roundtable hold.
This game is so massive that it's easy to get lost or confused when you're out wandering...

Good summary! The only thing I think might be a little off is the part about Fia. I don't think she intends to "restore" Destined Death. If I remember correctly from her questline, she wants to harness it to usher a new era of death or something like that by giving birth to a new death rune.
she wants destined death to return due to the fact that she wants to make those that live beyond death not just an accident or mistake but a solidified fact of life/unlife in the lands between which destined death allows more easily as even the most powerful could finally die and then return, in her opinion, more powerful as undead. she wants to usher in more undead, including 'reviving' the prince of death as an undead king.

I think the elden ring was shattered before Ranni stole the fragment of death.
I'm assuming Marika was only able to remove the rune of death by shattering the ring into its numerous shards, allowing her to gift different shards to her children as well as the rune of death to maliketh to seal away.
This had to be done right before she was imprisoned as punishment for shattering the Elden Ring by the greater will. Since Marika was the vessel for the Elden Ring, the only way anyone would have been able to access her body at that point would have been to pass the impenetrable thorns of the erdtree.
When we fight maliketh he says that he will not have the rune stolen from him again implying that it was him that ranni stole a fragment of the rune of death from. Who assumedly only got it from Marika only after she shattered the Elden Ring.
It doesn't seem not impossible, but order of events feels out of place if the elden ring was shattered first, since the golden order would've been established next, followed by the War with the giants, then the War with the dragonlord, the carian royals and academy forming an alliance to combat the expansion of the Golden order, Radagon falling in love with Rennala and forming a truce between their people, tarnishing of Godfrey and exile of the Tarnished, Radagon leaving behind his wife and children for Marika, the birth of the twin empireans, and the death of Godwyn all happening in that order. And after all these things, the war of the Shattering was named after an event that happened long before any of the demigods active in the war were even born?
It is said that marika removed the rune of death upon the creation of the golden order so your saying that ever since the golden order was established the shattering war was going on which makes even less sense when you consider that the shattering broke the golden order

Marika is said to betray Malekith (and he makes reference to being cursed), so it’s likely that she does play a part in the Night of the Black Knives, but yeet’s right that the Rune of Death is not implemented in the Elden Ring and therefore Golden Order when it’s formed by Marika.
I thought the cutscene arts and prologue were too brief to understand. Glad I came here before starting the game.

I know this is old but I'm just now getting into Elden Ring. Great video! It's my first Souls game and... let's just say I'm not used to the ambiguous medieval horror -ish type of story they're creating loll.

I totally get that! Back when I first got into Dark Souls, I wasn't really into all of the depressing themes and obscured story, but after my first playthrough I ended up being more open to the idea. Now it's one of my favorite fantasy settings

So a goddess creates a powerful ring in order to create a tree that controls the laws of reality, she has a bunch of kids with the other gods that rule the realm, but then a cult messes with the ring so the goddess destroys it to prevent further harm, and you are a resurrected human trying to collect the ring fragments. Is this correct?

I have a love hate relationship with Elden ring lore videos. While I as a player desparately want to know about this world, I feel like I'm being spoiled for basivally knowing what's going on. It feels like the game is intentioanlly ambiguous for a reason, and while it van be frustrating at the same time I don't want it to lose that magic, at least not until I've beaten the game for the first time.
Either way really great video. Will come back once I've beaten Elden Ring on my first playthrough
Would've been better if Starscourge Radahn was a later game boss. He was so easy for me, he was actually the first boss I took down, but the battle was legendary!

He is, but he is before all this story, he was the last tarnished to get immensely close to becoming elden lord, but he never reached the forge after being imprisoned. Vyke is the player before the player.

Very likely Radahn. Given he’s so much larger than Morgott when we fight either of them, I think this was before he fought Malenia when he was younger - but I’m not sure how long the Shattering has been going on.

According to Enia:
"The demigods are each and all the direct offspring of Queen Marika. Godrick the Grafted was but a distant relation... The runt of the litter, his divine blood sorely diluted."
He probably comes from a line of grafting that is hinted to trace back to the lineage of Godwyn the Golden.
