- I ordered this Soundblaster Live! card to fix my sound issues when running MS-DOS games on my new Windows 98 gaming rig.
I have quite a lot of trouble getting it working. Can I get it working and will it improve my sound issues? - Hry
My sound blaster live just won’t work in DOS. My motherboard is an Intel board from 2007, 3GHz processor. I guess it’s just too fast. All is ok in XP but I wanted to use it in DOS. No luck.
the gigabyte motherboard has an audio creative ct5880 sound microprocessor but sound blaster live 5.1 16 bit version works normally in windows 98 the drivers work but sound blaster live 5.1 in windows xp has full functionality by computer games were optimized for eax 1.0 eax 2.0 in windows xp
the original cd rom from the manufacturer creative with drivers from 2001 for sound blaster live 5.1 is in my furniture in a drawer
Nice looking case! I'd probably get a GeForce 4 MX 440 to put in there, but the CPU is fine enough for a 9x/DOS machine, I feel.
The Live is probably my favorite PCI card for DOS support. There are some that sound better, but it's easy to use (especially when using the Audigy 2 driver like Phil's Computer Lab shows) and is great for Windows games as well.
I had "fun" experiment with Live! and similar system that is here. I installed Geforce 2 MX 400 to it and suddenly my DOS didn't have enough free memory to run some games... It seems the VGA driver or something hogs up a lot of memory (and SB16 emulation as well of course) - so I had a fun 4 hours digging around and setting up the config.sys to gain free memory from correct banks :D Edit: I'm using real dos 6.22 and not the command prompt win98 dos - I prefer to actually boot into dos for older dos games.
@@pheidian707 I usually just reboot the system into DOS mode myself, when I feel like playing around with DOS, but 6.22 is pretty fun to play around with as well, especially on more period correct systems. 7.1 is handy though, even as a hacky standalone, FAT32 support is super nice.
Very nice, thanks for sharing
There's something nice about this setup of recording the screen with camera, next time try with the room lights off

parallel port must be set to epp because SPP does not support new printers
The FSB speed has no effect on hard drive speed.
There’s a number of things you could do to increase performance, but that isn’t one of them.
